On the subject of meeting famous people: I once saw a few of the Yogs walking about MCM Comic Con, and almost immediately had a severe panic attack at the thought of going up to them and saying hi. My train of thought went sort of like this: “Oh shit, that’s Lewis Brinkley, the internet funnyman I’ve watched since I was a kid. I should say something to him.” *thinks about it for literally a second* “Oh shit oh shit oh shit I can’t breathe” Looking back on it now, it’s kinda funny in a sad way. I’m way less anxious now, so hopefully if it happens again I won’t die, but… yeah.
I've always found it boils down to your level of 'investment' in that person. Like, how much a fan of them you are. A couple of my friends were doing the same thing, about talking to a guy who helms a band they loved. But I didn't really know him, and that lack of preconception I think made it comically easy for me to walk up to him and tell him my friends wanted a photo with him. But by that same dint, if it had been someone famous 'I' was a fan of, and my friends were less familiar with, I'd probably have struggled, and my friends would've found it easier.
I was a manager at a restaurant frequented by celebs, part of my job was training people to not freak out. The two best examples were when Micheal Sheen reduced my area manager to a simp with a smile, and when Chris Martin taught a whole family and my staff about rainbows when some kids pointed one out. He was total class that day.
Mark Heap in Green Wing is one of my favourite actors and characters of all time. Everyone knows him as Jim from Friday Night Dinner, but he's also Brian in Spaced and in a sketch show called Big Train. Oddly enough he was a pro juggler and street performer I believe. He's also in the background of a James Bond film, Octopussy, juggling flaming torches!
This was in the 1990's, my mom works on TV behind the scenes and once she invited me to set to meet Jason Priestly who at the time was a huge deal. I unfortunately ONLY watched Star Trek TNG and didn't really know who he was. When we met he was super nice and asked if I played hockey (mom probably told him), I said I did and then told me that he also grew up playing hockey so the next day we both brought our rollerblades and played street hockey against some of the crew during lunch break. Later that same day was the OJ Simpson police chase and the whole production came to a halt to watch it on the tv in the house we were filming at. What a day for a 90's kid!
First time I ever went to comic con I’m chatting with my friend and he very calmly tells me to turn around. I do so, to find Tomska standing right behind me. Before I even knew what I was saying I pretty much shouted in his face “OH MY GOD YOU’RE REAL”. I said that to an actual person. That was both a high and a low point in my life
my mum met tv presenter Nick Knowles, She the manager of a Salvation army charity shop and He just pop in one day out of the blue. I've seen the chuckle brothers live on stage while on a date with my late girlfriend.
I've met quite a lot of famous local (read Swedish) celebrities either from my dad's connections in our city's concert/choir scene or from school. The only one that is most likely to be internationally known is the one I have bad memories from, since the guy threathened to beat me up over a game of Street Fighter II. The movie director and game designer Josef Fares. Other than that I have a singer and two actors from schools I attended.
