An accent wall is a wall in a room that has a different design or color than the other walls. Accent walls can add interest, texture, and complexity to a space, and can be a simple way to add color to a room

The formal dining room is usually used for holidays and large dinner parties. The space beside the kitchen is sometimes called a "morning" room. It's typically where the family eats most of the time. A lot of Americans only have one dining room though.

morning room or a lot of people call it a “breakfast nook”

We have two rooms for dining. It depends on your lifestyle and needs. We use dining room for formal occasions, and a breakfast/ dining are for intimate family meals. Outside space depends on the house and area. Not all house configurations are the same. This is just one home setup. When I was a child, we did have a playroom. It was great.

I have seen houses with play rooms it’s just not common in the uk but now I understand the breakfast table, so it’s not just for eating breakfast

This is pretty much the type of home I grew up in and live in now (same area). My basement is a custom “geek den” my dad and I built together (my fiancé helped out a little bit, haha!) 😊 My parent’s basement has a movie room and a popcorn machine as well!

You are funny. Made me laugh. One room for each different meal? An area within the kitchen with a small table is called a breakfast area but it's used for all meals on a daily basis. As opposed to the dining room which is used during holidays or when friends are around. More recently houses no longer even have a formal dining room though I, personally, like to use it.

i bought my current home about 4.5 years ago. it's a mid century, block ranch built in 1960 and i love it, think brady bunch for style. because it is in a historic district and is a registered property, i wasn't able to do much with the exterior when i renovated. i replaced the windows for energy efficiency with dual paned, gas filled windows designed to look like split paned windows and for the exterior color i went with a robin's egg blue to match the vibrant pastel colors of the mid century era. the interior i completely gutted. it had a kitchen, living room, family room, formal dining room and breakfast nook, but i opened it up, so now that half of the house has a short load bearing wall and an expanse beam to support the weight of the ceiling, but other wise it is roughly 1,000 square feet of open space. plus i added a glass french door to the back yard that opens up to a 600 square foot covered patio. i've comfortably hosted parties for 50 people and designed the back yard to have several "conversation" areas with little tables and seating for four. i tend to host the holidays for my family and friends, and have always loved being the party house, so i specifically looked for a house that would meet these criteria and be in a central location in my city too. on the interior i did accent walls and a color blocking technique so when you walk in the front door and look to the back you can see a dramatic color change from front to back with navy blue, sky blue, burnt orange and lime green curtains to really highlight the mid century style of the house.

This is about the same size as our home in Montana, except we have a 4 car garage and 20 acres in the mountains. We bought the land and built the home ourselves about 20 years ago for about 250k and mine is worth about 800k now and my brothers is about 1.2M and he built it for about 500k. His is probably about 1500 square feet bigger than mine and it's on the 20-acre lot next to me. He has an 8 car garage, and we share a shop for restoring muscle cars that has a pit, car lift, and paint booth. We also build and sell log homes, so we currently have a large log home sitting here that we sold and are getting ready to move and set up for someone who bought it.

As an American i will say yes, that house was nice. I would guess if it was in a state where the cost of living is not as high, probably around $350-400k. My parents bought a house that had alot like this house in the video. But since all of us kids (who are all adults now) have moved out and it’s just our parents, our parents downsized to a one level, 3 bedroom, 2 full bathroom house. The house they moved from was like $300k (at the time, but now runs about $550k) and they downsized to a house that was around $150k (at the time they purchased it). But now if they were to get the house they downsized to today, it would run around $350k. Inflation is a mf. But yeah, in the US, they have many programs to help people buy a home, especially if they are a first time homebuyer. In my opinion it helps, but the process can be pretty long because of having to be approved for loans, saving up enough for a downpayment if you can’t pay for the full cost in one limp sum, looking for a house that suits you as it’s a long time investment you committing to and all the quality checks you will have to do after finally picking one. Quality checks would be damage, potential hazards, the history on the house (people check to see if their was a bad history in the house or not and could have bad energy lingering like ghosts and such), if it’s safe from natural disasters, etc…i’ve been for a while myself trying to see eventually i could get a house as first time homebuyer. But i don’t even have anything saved up yet.

What she is calling a formal living room is probably what most of us would call just a living room. But you could call the family room an 'Informal living room' and the living room a 'formal living room'. Family gatherings can need two dining tables in the US. Even in poorer families. I have a large table & just set out folding tables for the kids (an American tradition to have 'kid's tables'). Pallet wall is a wall made of random destress wood like you would get from shipping pallets. Accent wall has a different but complimentary color to the other three walls. Sorry, I'm not much of an interior designer. But I think that is right. That house in my area would cost @ 250k to 350k. There are housing markets where it might be less but many others where this would be well over a million.

I was thinking about the price. This could be had for 250k to 350k. But on the exterior if you plop down a swimming pool in the backyard, Mock timber frame & Austin stone in front. Then you add premium shingles (or God forbid, a copper roof) & radiant barrier, etc, etc . . . This is going to be 700k in my area.

What she is calling the breakfast room is used for most meals. The formal dining room is used for formal gatherings with family and friends on holidays. This is how my home is set up. I only use my formal dining room 4 or 5 times a year.

Its kinda crazy to see that written out "I only use my formal dining room 4 or 5 times a year"... its the same for me, but I never thought about how under-used that room really is (I guess the drink cart and china cabinet do create some foot traffic into the room a little more often)

I think you don't have basements because you live in an island. In Florida we don't have basements either because it is a peninsula (costal areas on 3 sides). We had basement up north.

How old is this video? In my opinion the bathroom is outdated. It has old cabinets and sinks and ancient faucets, I had those in a house built in 1989. My present house was built in 2008 and has more modern bathroom vanities and fixtures. My daughter had one of those Jacuzzi tubs they installed 15 years ago. They renovated their bathroom this year and replaced those water jets for a modern foot tub.

I live in Central Indiana and this home is approximately the same size as my house with similar features. It would cost roughly $300-350k. I n other parts of the country it would cost much more. I think she is in Texas, so it is probably about the same. But that is a guess.
