The reason for shoe removal is because of the shoe bomber on an airplane. Fortunately, it didn't work as planned. Alot of people forget or don't know about this incident.

US Airports are pretty easy to go through. The TSA has a conveyer belt that you put your shoes & electronics on for security screening . After 9/11 it became a more thorough process but it’s not bad at all in my opinion

My rule of thumb is to figure in roughly 10% sales tax on non-food items, but I live in Washington state (no income tax though 😊).

Been to the UK many many times and I have no clue what he's talking about with the airport in the United States.. That's why you can't believe everything these people say on RU-vid.

We don't say I only want to spend $10. I say to myself think we'll pay around $10.00 range. If you can't afford it, or if it's too expensive, don't buy it.

Sales tax can be different everywhere depending upon state, county, city, and regional tax rates. You ask at your hotel, or around -- for point of purchase stuff there will be standard local rates and advice. But also too, hotel taxes will be vastly different from that, luxury and hospitality taxes as well. Once in a while it's an angle exploited against tourists, so be aware.

Tipping is not mandatory, but a matter of courtesy. If you don't have enough money, avoid establishments where tipping is customary. Judge your tip by what you bought. It's not up to you to make the service person rich, tipping simply shows appreciation. If you don't tip, you might not want to go back to that establishment because you could get worse service instead of the best.

@richardmartin9565, the other side, as we both know, is someone probably in college/university who's doing this part time job to offset some of the cost of being there. He/she works hard to get the tips, then comes to the table after they've left, and finds either nothing, or nowhere near 10-20%--pretty heartbreaking.

It's not that bad at the US airport but ever since the 9-11 terrorist attack on the twin towers, the US became a little more vigilant when it comes to airport security

Nick, what you said about the size of the US is true; it's 97% of the size of Europe, and driving cross country is like driving from the Normandy coast to Moscow, which is aside from Alaska and Hawai'i. Re. tax, I'll let you in on a secret: Americans don't know what we're going to pay, either. The difference is that we don't worry about it, since we've done it since we bought our first candy as a preteen. We also don't come to a store with exactly what the price is on the tag. In the "check out places" section, he mentioned St. Augustine, FL, but pronounced it with the accent on 'gus'; it actually belongs on 'Au": AWE-gus-teen. Re. accents, what he said applies mostly when you're in rural areas, where accents can be somewhat rare. However, even in my metro area of around 200M, I hear accents all the time, though not usually British type. Mostly, it's Spanish, with a sprinkling of Brazilian Portuguese, French, and recently Swahili, as there are now immigrants in the area from somewhere around 122 countries.

The train thing is quite misunderstood and not explained properly. There is only one video on RU-vid that explains why we don't have passenger rail in most of the nation. I am going to make a video explaining this but I am working on getting the necessary equipment to be able to record a video explaining this both in my house and near abandoned passenger stations. Our electric outlets are completely different voltage than yours, we are 110 while you are all 220. The sales tax thing you just round up anything to the next dollar and then you end up paying less than you figured most of the time.
@brianlewis5692
@brianlewis5692 2 месяца назад
If you want to spend $10, then you should not exceed a total cost of $9.85. Leave a little wiggle room for tax. That's how we do it. $15, then $14.75 is what you really have to spend, asf. If you want to spend $100, then your real spending limit is around $92.00. Always know that around 7-8% will be used up by sales tax.

Sales tax is not included in the price of an item in the USA because we don't want it that way. Americans truly hate paying taxes, so we certainly don't want taxes hidden in the price. We always want to know exactly how much of our money our government is taking -- and if it was included in the price, we'd never know when the government was raising taxes. His example of paying tax of $1.57 on a $10 purchase is absolutely nonsense. We have no National sales tax -- it's controlled at the State ad local levels. The highest in the country is Louisiana at 9.56%, but five states: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon have no state sales tax at all (although some cities inside of those states can charge a sales excise tax). In most of the states, groceries are tax-free. In the UK, VAT is 20% on most items not including food. If any state ever tried to slap its citizens with a 20% tax, there would be bloodshed! Americans would simply never allow our local, state or federal government to get away with it. So you better believe we want to keep an eye on how much we're being taxed! Europeans act like their way of including everything in the price is "better" -- they just don't understand how easily their governments can take advantage of them.

I'm from Illinois, raised in California, Lived in Texas (Houston & San Marcos), and have driven to Vancouver From Los Angeles. Seen most of the East Coast. And drove from New Jersey to Houston. Visited most of the East Coast & Montreal & Quebec City If You visit The U.S. Come to California, I believe California blows away any state when it comes to diversity in almost every way. Los Angeles County alone- Beautiful Beaches, Coastal Mountains, Pine Forest, Desert, Multiple Valleys with different climates, And an actual freaking island!!!- is more diverse than most countries. Everyone tries to portray California like it's all skid row... Yes, there are problems, but mile per mile I would put California against any COUNTRY let alone any state. Texas weather is horrible & everything sticks to your body. Live there for years not one single day of dry weather!!! Whereas in Los Angeles, I woke up earlier in the year for about 100 days straight to perfect weather!!!! About (70-83 degrees/ 21- 29 Celsius) low humidity. Trigger Warning: NOT EVERYTHING in Texas is bigger!!! Not a brag or a put-down, just plain facts!!! Sequoia National Park contains the largest living tree. Its trunk is (102 feet/ 31meters) in circumference, Redwood Redwood State & National Park contains The Tallest tree in the world (380ft/115Meters), Inyo National Forest contains The Oldest Tree in the World at 4'855 years old, Yosemite National Parks contains North America's Tallest Waterfalls, dropping (4,425 Feet/739 Meters), and El Capitan - at more than (3,000 ft/914 meters high and (1 mile/1.6 kilometers) wide is the tallest exposed vertical face of granite on Earth, Death Valley is The hottest place on Earth (130 Fahrenheit/54 Celsius) and Lowest point in the US at ( 282 feet/ 85 meters) below Sea level. And only (107 miles/ 172 kilometers) away to the West is Mount Whitney (14,505 feet/4,421 meters) the highest point in the contiguous U.S. States. California contains the Most National Parks (9), California contains The Most State Parks (280), and California contains the most National Monuments - Lowly tie with Arizona - at (18). Hollywood Bowl is the world’s largest outdoor amphitheater..... Do you like fishing?????? The diversity of California's Blue Ribbon Waters- Hot Creek, Hat Creek, Walker, Truckee, Yuba, Pit, Fall, McCloud, Upper Sacramento, Lower Sacramento, and Trinity Rivers- Is arguably unmatched in the US, if not The World. The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta has (1,100 miles/1,770 Kilometers) of rivers and contains White Sturgeon - The largest Freshwater Fish in North America - (Average Size: 79 Inches/200cm), The San Francisco Bay Watershed covers more than (75,000 square miles/194,000 square kilometers) including the largest estuary on The West Coast of North and South America. Lake Tahoe is The largest alpine lake in North America. Most California Rivers are very clear to crystal clear. California Coast is (840 miles/1351 kilometers) of some of the world's most beautiful beaches and rugged coastline including Giant Wave Surf Spot MAVERICKS!!!! History, Museums, Points of Interest: California Missions, Hearst Castle, LA Arboretum, Descanso Garden, Getty Museum, Getty Villa, Norton Simon, The Broad, La Brea Tar Pits, The Exploratorium in San Francisco (Best Museum EVER!!!! All hands-on displays), Winchester Mystery House, State Railroad Museum, Wells Fargo Museum, Indian Grinding Rock State Park, Black Chasm Cavern National Landmark, Moaning Cavern, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Mulholland Scenic Highway, Musical Highway, Malibu, Point Dume State Beach, Santa Barbara, Santa Catalina Island (Los Angeles County), Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach Skate Park, Our New Arts District in Downtown LA, Griffith Park & Observatory, Mount Wilson Observatory, Alcatraz, Mount Shasta, Western terminus of Route 66, PCH, Prismatic Pools & Hot Springs. To name a few. Theme Parks: Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Six Flags Magic Mountain (Most roller coasters in the world- BTW), Universal Studios Hollywood, Legoland, Sea World, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Knott's Berry Farm, Pacific Park @ Santa Monica Pier, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Californias Great Adventure, San Diego Zoo Safari Park (These are just the Major One's) Major Sports: Baseball- LA Dodgers, Anaheim Angels, San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants. American Football: LA Rams, LA Chargers, San Francisco 49ers. Basketball: Golden State Warriors, LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Sacramento Kings. Horse Racing: Del Mar by the Sea, Santa Anita.

Don't visit now or if you do stay out of larger Democrat-controlled cities. Unless you want a taste of late 18th century Dodge complete with a showdown at the O.K. Corral. And if you go to San Farnsicko remember to have your poop app on your phones so you can try to avoid those hazards.

The only thing I don't like and agree with about our American stuff is the stupid sales tax.. how you don't know how much it should be at the very end of your shopping or whatever you're doing.. just because every state is different is why I'm guessing it's like that. Every states sales tax.. I can't imagine how great it would be to know exactly how much it would be right from the get-go..

And of course America isn't as good as the UK with train travel.. because the US isn't a tiny little island. If it were then yes we would be just as good or better at train travel.. But the United States is absolutely massive so you need a car.. and train travel is stupid anyways because I don't want to be stuck near thousands of others with no privacy when I could be in my own vehicle and do whatever the hell I want.. Yes I know you can get private rooms on trains. They never take an account anything I said right there when talking about the trains. You can't just turn around or do anything like that in a train either I can do whatever I want once again in a vehicle. I'm also 6'7 and whenever I'm in England I can't fit inside most of the damn vehicles. In the United States everything is just fine most of the time. Gets me pissed off when they talk about the size of American vehicles when there's nothing wrong with them at all. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Besides cars, after WW2 we transitioned away from trains to planes. The US has the most advanced and comprehensive air travel system in the world. If I were to ride the train from where I live in Utah to Chicago, it would take more than 1.5 days to get there. But flying is a total of 4 to 4.5 hours, including drive time to the airport. No one wants to spend 1-4 days sitting on a train to get to another area of the country, when you can fly coast to coast in 5-6 hours. If I'm going to spend that kind of time traveling, I'd rather do a road trip so I can take the route I want to take, see the places I want to see, and stop where I want to stop. About the only reason to ride Amtrak long distances is if riding the train itself across country is part of what you want to experience for your trip. That can be a fun thing, and there are several beautiful scenic train routes. But using the train for long distances in the US simply as a mode of transportation to get from point A to point B... well, it takes up a ton of time, is not efficient or feasible for most people, and quite frankly sucks lol.
