It's so frustrating how the world constantly talks bad about the United States when we intervene in international conflicts, but on the other hand when the United States doesn't act or get involved the world ask why doesn't the United States do something to put a stop to this! The world wants to live under United States protection but wants to be able to complain about it every time the United States gets involved!

99% everyone alive at this point have never seen a world without their world police. no one remembers or was there when there wasn't protection throughout the world, you know minus the one's that completely fight against that world interest. no one understands why america deserves basically all the credit for the rampant peace we've seen, or what they suffered when america wasn't there. there's only one way to stop america and it's internally, socially, educationally. beyond the ignorance of what life was like before the usa protected everyone, our young people don't know how to not listen to the rumblings from outside the country, and thus begin to turn on it from within. they don't understand that they're listening to the ones who defy the rather successful world america has constructed, and that the only reason they have a place to voice any discontent is because america opened the world to such platforms. we're why you have an abundance of food, plentiful fuel, no need to spend your GDP on military, and the ability to offer the free healthcare we can't. american citizens pay more than anyone else on the planet for their health, so that we can also pay for the military to protect you and your free healthcare. we went into the middle east so YOUR country could not bankrupt themselves purchasing cartel-held fuel. we needed it, too, but we don't now, and we still protect YOUR interests. almost no one understands any of this.

0:48 if you actually look at the numbers. the U.S. contributes over 85% of the budget for NATO... and only TWO countries (other than the U.S.) is actually living up to the requirement of contributing 2% of that country's GDP to the NATO budget... that's why Trump was talking about pulling out of NATO a few years ago. he said that if the rest of the countries didn't care enough about NATO to live up to the requirements they agreed to, then the U.S. shouldn't have to contribute at all... the U.S. giving so much to NATO to defend Europe is also why all European countries have such small militaries and military budgets... the depend on the U.S. to protect them. so instead they use that money to pay for social services like 'universal' healthcare... IF all European countries had to pay for their entire defense themselves, they would ALL be nearly destitute or nearly ALL social services would disappear overnight... it's the same with the U.N. ... the U.S. pays nearly 75% of the U.N. budget AND we give them a place to be (the U.N. is in New York) YET they constantly shit on the U.S. and tell us that we're the cause of the problems the other countries are having...

Nicely stated. I'm a former Navy and back in 1993 I was making less then 15K per year. Staying in crappy barracks similar to my crappy University housing and not the greatest food but at least it was free. The US military is grossly unpaid. Instead of providing all this funding to the ungrateful NATO and UN increase the pay to the men and women who fight and die because others want the US to solve all their military problems. Spend the money on our people not for others who don't seem to show gratitude. You want our military might then pay for it. Paying your share to NATO and the UN. You want a UN military action either provide you troops and equipment. If like most actions in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya just to name a few where the US pays for, provide the bulk of the troops and equipment then pay for the cost of our troops and military equipment. You pay our troops pay, you pay for the use of our tanks, ships and airplanes, you pay for our bullets and missiles. Most of all you pay the survivors of our troops death. Why should we fight and die for you and a lot of your ungrateful asses. It's time the rest of the world appreciates all that the US does for you. Like an abusive relationship the US needs to get out of this toxicity. I appreciate every man and women who served and for your sacrifice to protect ours and other countries freedom especially when they seem so ungrateful. You never know what you got until it's gone and it's time to show the world what it's like without the US to bitch about.

The difference is who is members of NATO and who is members of the UN. Nato only has 32 countries as members. The UN has 193 members. The total number of countries in the world is 195. This means that the UN has all but 2 counties as members, and only 6% of the countries is a part of NATO. Here are the basic ideals that each follows. The UN is "the one place on Earth where all the world’s nations can gather together, discuss common problems, and find shared solutions that benefit all of humanity." We don't spend that money outright. Those are figures with reference to our military expenditure, not money given directly to NATO. It is a reference to how much money the U.S. has available to contribute to a war against Russia. In other words, no money actually exchanges hands until an actual war occurs. Veterans suicide has nothing to do with NATO. This is actually not at all a new thing. It actually has more to do with an all profession military means a bunch of people did things for years that doesn't translate to the normal society. Many went into the military out of HS, so they are poorly educated. The stats drop dramatically for commissioned officers and or people that were say ROTC, went to college and thus have some education. They are more likely to have a real world skill and not feel lost when they return to the "real world". The education system is not a joke, there is a wide difference between red and blue states. Highly educated states are the high GDP, high income states that are net tax donors to the federal government. The low education states are low GDP & net tax receivers(moochers) off the federal government, the government they hate(self loathing dependency). Every state that is a net tax donor is a blue state...top of the list NY, CA, MA. CT. IL, MA, NJ, etc,,,the evil liberal states that subsidize the failing poor red states. The least educated states are the poorest, 14 of the 15 & 18 of the 20 poorest states are red. Those same states dominate the bottom of education rankings, and every social/economics stat, Also bottom in health stats,, top of the list in obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc.. which all leads to red states having about 4 years less in life expectancy compared to blue states. We are TIRED, physically and mentally trying to keep up with everything. There is a large movement for us to go back into isolation and let the world handle the world. It is truly steaming from we have starving and homeless people on our streets but sending 61 BILLION dollars to Ukraine. We want to put Americans first for the first time since WWII. Trust me, even if we did back out of NATO. Do you really think we would let someone like China bully others. Our focus would just be more at home....not our entire focus!

Trump wasn't thinking or talking about leaving NATO for no reason, and he wasn't specifically talking about it in order to save the U.S. money, either. He was talking about leaving NATO because most of the member nations aren't paying their fair share, and that signals that they aren't as committed to the NATO coalition and are quite happy with the U.S. paying for everything. He was saying that it's not fair for the U.S. to have to practically completely subsidize NATO if the other members weren't going to be as committed to it as the U.S. is. The NATO agreement is for all members to commit at least 2% of their GDP on defense spending in order to ensure NATO remains a strong and viable force. Many members are not spending that much on defense, like they are supposed to, and it appears they are doing this because they are content to just live under the safety of the umbrella of protection provided by the other members (especially the U.S.), instead. Many of these nations have quite robust economies of their own (especially looking at you, Germany) and can surely afford to pay the 2% toward their defense spending. So, Trump was not happy with these other member nations not holding to their NATO commitment, that's all. -- NOTE: This is not meant as either an endorsement or a criticism of Trump. This is just a point of clarification regarding why Trump was talking about the U.S. leaving NATO. Please, restrain yourselves in any responses to this comment. Thank you, in advance.

10:21 well that point is invalid as shit. NATO wasn’t around in WWII and America still secretly sent supplies to its allies. America will be involved, just not to the scale Europe and the rest of the world has gotten used to. America will still have its allies (hello, the UN still exists) and we’ll still project our power. If anything, we’d have more, because with the money we’d have available, we could work on our own infrastructure and improve our nation from the inside. Hell, we may even develop those hypersonic missiles and crap quicker and more efficiently. Our power projection just won’t be as blatant as now. America will project power by nearly wrecking the economies of Europe, who have become too dependent on American military and financial aid. America could up and leave all their bases, leave their supplies if they want (say as a parting gift so Europe wouldn’t need to scramble for military weaponry), and just focus on America. All those billions of dollars could also go towards our increasing homeless population, food shortages, or our healthcare system. This would improve America’s standard of living and lead to an influx of jobs, new fields of study, and longer life spans (since it won’t put you into debt to have a medical emergency). Meanwhile, Europe would have to scramble to fill the gap the Americans left. The reason Europe has good healthcare is because NATO nations don’t have a huge defense budget, so they can afford to spend it on healthcare. Even with America’s parting gift, those nations would still need to ramp up their defense budget and thus cause the healthcare system to crash. This video downplays just how much Europe relies on America. America helps fund the NATO nations’ standard of living. If America left, NATO nations would suffer record inflation to try to alleviate the financial gap the US filled. And if all goes sour, those nations could suffer economic ruin. America may also help by giving out loans, but unlike all the loans America has given out before, those loans should never be forgiven and those nations would have to pay us back. It’s nothing against our allies, we love our allies. But, if we’re going to be shouldered with the brunt of everybody’s financial and military burden, we would at least like some respect. And as shown by most of NATO not paying their share and how some Europeans talk about Americans, we aren’t respected. Don’t bite the hand that feeds you 💛

Instead Europe relies on us for your defense, we subsidize your healthcare by eating all of the costs of medical research and then Europe turns around and routinely spits in our faces. So you tell me. What benefit is the U.S. getting from being allied with Europe? Why should we stay in NATO and protect you? It's far past time that Europe steps up and actually pay what it should. I mean... It sounds like a bad idea if you don't live in the USA... If you do, though... That's literal Billions of dollars we can use to take care of all the things we "Don't Have The Money For" and invest into making the country as a whole even stronger. IMO, the rest of NATO should contribute at least as much as the USA does. You guys are kinda getting most of the reward with pretty much no risk. While we're taking most of the risk and receiving very little reward. I also don't think it would tarnish the US's reputation either. Probably make it better to be honest. Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes. 🎉

We could sell our Nimitz class carriers and their Hornet squadrons to various members as we replace them with Ford class and F35Cs. At a say $1 billion per ship and half that for the fighter wing NATO could gain a lot of our capability at a decent price while the us raises some cash.A couple to the uk, a couple to France, a couple to germany, one to Spain, one to Italy, and we rent out the shipyards for servicing. If the remaining members more closely integrated their militaries, like a single defense ministry, they could stay effective by Min/Maxing each country.

America has always wanted to be the "good guy"(barring the corrupt politicians and businessmen). It has cost us greatly, but that's part of being American. Nato is not set in stone. It can, and should, be reorganized for the needs of the post cold war world. Just abandoning Nato is unwise, impractical and nonsensical.

I'm not a Trump fan... like at all. But I don't think he was wrong for wanting every member to pay their share. Where he went sideways was threatening to pull out of NATO and saying we wouldn't come to the defense of any ally not contributing the 2% minimum. You may agree with his original point that other countries have to step up, but his execution (as usual) went off the rails.

For centuries Europeans have been waging war continuously. Since the end of WW 2, Europeans, especially Western Europeans have lived in relative peace for 80 years and it's because of the protection provided by the U.S. The Cold War was cold because of the U.S. and we kept Western Europe safe from the Soviet Union. European countries have that luxury of only paying for a small defense force and living under the umbrella of security provided by America. So this is not about money, but the principal of the matter . Regardless of the organization, it's morally wrong to EXPECT one of its members to pay for the majority of the bills and everyone else pays little, but has the same benefits. Trump asked NATO nations to simply pay it's fair share and was blasted for it and was given the middle finger by Europe. It's ridiculous... share and

as a American i think leaving nato would hurt more then help and the idea of it is very shortsighted/ not considering the future with facts because if we lose the trust of our allies it will open them up and even possibly force them to have to accept other allies through expansion which said leaders and non nato members esp a certain Russian guy who one of the greatest gifts hes said would be US leaving nato of it to assume as we cant go back to the old archaic ways and become isolationist ways we had before that being said from a monetary stand point some of the great stuff people use here in the us is Not manufactured { that includes critical gasses and parts} in the us and well to be blunt everything if not most of the electronics we all use have more then likely 2-4 + countries involved so no leaving nato would be tactically financially and just down right giving anti nato dictators the fast pass bullet train for expansion which is what they want and well alot of them even though they said they would stop at random place they factually dont so sure the take over may not happen in your time of being alive but at some point there will be no buffer zones left
