She's downplaying our drive through banking. You can drive up, talk to a teller through a speaker, send paper checks/forms through a tube system. It's 100 times more than you're imagining.

It doesnt matter if the glass is half empty or half full, we have free refills.

It is my favorite thing to see how so many foreigners move to the States and fall in love with living here. Americans are absolutely TRASHED in the foreign media, on RU-vid etc but good people like Feli show that Americans are kind, welcoming.

There are sooo many different cultures within the United States too.

She is right, America and Americans are open, friendly, optimistic and will try anything. Our founding, unique government, Constitution, history and attitudes are all based on personal freedom. This needs to be emphasized, because many Americans are losing sight of the beauty of the country they live in. And it's because Propaganda is powerful tool, and needs to be fought with the truth! About looking at ppl, I look at as many ppl as I can. I love the diversity of ppl here. As I got older, I loved going to the state fair with my dad and getting a beer, and just sitting down and watching the ppl.

I’m American and I have conversations with random people often. Stores, elevators, festivals, service stations,’on the street. I talk to the cashiers, to the waiters, bank tellers. If I go into a shop and an employee who isn’t super busy looks dead at me and doesn’t say hello or ask if I need help, I might not ever go back. In my culture if someone says hello and you don’t respond it’s considered bad manners. I also pay people compliments if I like their outfits, hair or if they have a nice smile. And people do visa versa. When I went to London, I noticed most people weren’t friendly or approached. My friend and I got on the train and I wanted to smile at people but mostly they looked miserable and like they were trying to avoid making eye contact. I approached to English guys at an attraction and after talking a bit I asked them if they were uncomfortable since I had heard some Europeans say they feel that way about American strangers talking to them. They said they had been to the USA plenty of times so they were used to it and had come to like it. Now when I went to Italy and Spain, people were much friendlier on the street. Latin America and the Caribbean too.

Generally speaking this is true, but I also think there is differences in city, rural and suburb and there is also differences in which cities your talking about.

America has 3 coasts. Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf coast.

Lol, when you said half empty or half full, maybe I'm weird, but if someone drinks a full glass to the halfway point, I say half empty. If someone fills a glass halfway, I say it's half full.

At most banks, they have drive up ATMs, as well as ATMs in the foyer of the bank, which is open 24 hours, so you can drive up to the outside ATM, or walk up to the inside ATM.

Great stuff. I was born in England and moved Canada as a young boy with my family. We moved to Texas in 1964 and stayed.

Where I live, you can drive less than 3 hours (different directions obviously) to arrive at: the beach, snowcapped mountains/ski resorts, an arid desert, a temperate forest, sweeping grasslands, a deciduous rainforest, or one of several metropolitan city centers. To say the landscape and scenery is diverse is an understatement, you can find any sort of ecological biome that exists in the whole world somewhere in the US.

A lot of people are critical of this girl, they think she's arrogant, condescending and doesn't seem to actually really like America. But as she even points out with her first reason for loving America is that Americans (and I'd also say this applies somewhat to Brits too) are more open and friendly than Germans. She's just a typical German and yes they can easily come off as arrogant, humorless and prickley. Its just a quirk of cultures. Back in my misspent youth I was a mechanic in a shop that specialized in European cars (that's where my username comes from; Zündfolge means "firing order" and is stamped on the valve cover or other place on the engine of German cars). The shop was owned by a German immigrant and he, his wife and the German girl that worked the parts counter were all the same way. For most of the time I worked there I thought none of them liked me, but then when I eventually gave my notice to moved on, the parts girl and owner's wife were both teary eyed and gave me hugs on my last day and the owner gave me a big hand-shake and told me how much he'd enjoyed having me work for him. I had horribly misjudged them because of the subtle differences in German and American culture. So no, I don't think Feli is arrogant, condescending nor do I think she actually dislikes America. She's just German.

Beesleys, just in case you've not heard why she starts her videos with 'halo, servus, welcome' is that the first is in standard German, the second in Bavarian German, and obviously, #3 is in English; she thought a greeting in 3 languages would be interesting, with which I agree. On the subject of scenic diversity, she said we have 2 coasts, but it could be said that we have 4, if you separate the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico, and add the Arctic coast in Alaska. This makes for some unbelievable temperature differences, especially in winter. I may have mentioned this in the past, but in case I didn't, on a winter day several years ago, I got a "brainstorm", and decided to see how wide a temperature difference I could find. I eventually decided on Fairbanks, AK, which was sitting at -40F, whereas at the same time, Honolulu was at 85F--a difference of 125 degrees F/51.6 C at the same moment in the same country.

I’m from the Ajax and the only other country I’ve been in was Canada when I was in high school in the 90s and I guess I never really thought about it until a video I watched of y’all that was the girl driving from Texas up to Alaska and she stopped at a rodeo. One part of that was about her going to a drive up ATM and I guess I assumed they had them everywhere!

I live just across the river from Feli. We have a saying on friendliness: You're a guest once. After that, you know where the refrigerator is.

As an American who lived in England for many years plus many vacations. Taught 10 summers there. I was going to start that again the past couple of summers but I ended up staying home. Next Summer. I would say as an American many British people were kind. Media shows is not true. People were kind always heard my accent although they said it was light that it was not heavy. They always loved the idea I was born and raised in NY. All over Europe in general. I am an open person that is forward and a people person! I am very friendly. I think some British have a polite coldness way but they were out of their comfort zone but I felt most of them too wanted to talk to me. I would say many Irish are like that as well. I love talking to the British and I think because I am an American. I met many on vacation or living in Italy too when I bumped into British, they were always interested in where I was from in the USA. New York is such an easy conversation. Although some have sterotypes about it. I never saw a crime in my life in NY and Brooklyn where I grew up in Marine Park in Brooklyn. SE corner with a suburban feel that my Irish cousins and British friends felt it was like a London Suburb. I said it more like the outer part of the city or the outskirts. People in Manhattan or even Brooklyn Height Cobble Hill or Park Slope would say too far. It is more residential with families. Here? Two New Yorks to me. Nice areas I would say Native New Yorkers are talkative and forward. If they like you, you know it and feel it!!! If they do not, you would have a polite coldness in not engaging. Manhattan is like that too although many are in a rush. Brooklyn Heights some are not Native New Yorkers. They come from all over the country!! Central and Northern NJ surburbs and Long Island plus Upstate NY are mostly native New Yorkers or children or grandchildren of them. The other parts of NYC or the not so nice areas, you can find nice people but less so, Many can be rude or they simply do not trust people. They do not trust each other in high crime areas. If you come from outside their area, they would be like what are we there for? In general I believe people in the USA are nice. I would say southerners are nice but most people are not as nice as I am but I am rare. I have strong intuition. South and midwest, many are kind many have a polite kindness with a bit of coldness. NY and NJ people are far from cold! You know they like you, if you are genuine, they will talk and they would like you especially from overseas. Everyone loves people from Ireland and England!! Usually!!

The atms aren’t roadside, they’re generally on the side of a bank that is in a shopping center and there is drive through access.

Well, she sees how Americans in their _20s_ socialize easily. Getting a whole group of friends together past 30 is heartbreakingly difficult and rare. In a quite literal sense, too, since it's causing depression and loneliness to skyrocket here.

My son was stationed in Germany for 2 years in the army he was very welcomed he mentioned how nice the citizens were and he loved it there

funny thing about the drive up atm is i cant remember the last time i went to the bank, almost every retailer(shop) offers cash back with purchases and almost every retailer takes debt cards so you really don't need cash

It's good to have both the optimistic types as well as the skeptical types, you need optimistic's to drive progress and skeptical's to highlight concerns for why something might not work. I like to think I'm a optimistic realist, I want to be positive while also trying to identify potential challenges that might not let an idea work.

Talk about spontaneous!?!. One weekend, three of my friends and I decided we were gonna drive from Doylestown, Pennsylvania to Boulder, Colorado. To visit a friend who had just moved out there.😂

I know I'm late watching this one and commenting. I hope by the time you have read this. You have your baby boy in your arms. I'm an American and what I find that helps others. When I see someone in town that I don't know or do know. I always try to remember to smile and say hi. Sometimes not everyone's day is going smoothly. Just to give a smile they might need. I know there has been days I could use a smile and a hi. But yes we do like to talk to everyone. I'm a elderly lady and sometimes some of us need to feel like we are among the living.

Germany's land size is about the same as Montana's land size here in the states. Colorado is the closest total land area to the UK size.

I have followed Feli since before she changed her channel name (reason for the blurring you saw at start of her video) and I am just amazed at pretty neutral accent. I know a few folks from Germany and their accent is far more detectable than Feli. Enjoyed your reaction video. Regarding the cash machine (ATM). I think that is very much related to the ridiculous amount of space we have in the US. We have the walk-up version, but at many banks there will also be drive-thru lanes for transacting daily business, as well as 1-2 dedicated lanes for drive-thru ATM's.

1:10 Yeah, the channel used to be called "German Girl in the US" but someone else had that title, and made a big stink about it, so Feli changed the channel name, and the old videos have the original name blurred out.

Just a suggestion. Why don't you do a reaction sometime on the old American west. Gunfighters, outlaws,bounty hunters Pinkerton detective agency etc . I think you'd find it interesting. Lots of interesting characters.

Here’s a good question for you :) I love my UK brothers and sisters, but have always wondered why a lot of you drop the “h” from the beginning of words (ie ‘ello, ‘inge, ‘orrible”), yet pronounce the letter itself as “haitch” - adding the sound to the start of the letter…

I gotta say it: If she loves living in Cincinnati, she really ought to try some other parts of the country because my guess is she'd love some of them even more. Not bashing Cincinnati--just reality. I don't entirely agree that it's not your concern if a close friend seems to be wasting money when they don't have much. If you really care about someone and you think they are doing something self-harmful, I would try to find a way to discuss it with them.

Convenience is more widely available in large cities than is in more rural areas. I live an hour north of Duluth & about 3 hours from the Twin Cities metro area. Our grocery stores & Target close at 10pm. Walmart was open 24/7/365, but now it closes at 11pm (not enough customers - only people who were monkeying around late night. Most gas stations close before midnight too. I have relatives in central Wisconsin & the town is mostly farmers - everything is pretty much closed by 9pm there. We have had a drive up cash machine (ATM) in a neighboring town since the late 1980s - it's was in the mall parking lot (there was an ATM inside the mall too). There's a newer one at the mall now. One of the banks has a driveup ATM on the other side of town. My town has a lane for the atm next to the 2 bank drive thru lanes. The other bank has an ATM inside a little room on the side of the bank.

In Seattle, Washington state, USA, Drive through ATM means you go in a bank's parking lot/car park. On one side of bank there is a lane or two with a cover. And a machine you can operate from car, or walk a few steps to operate on outside of bank. In the North East , such as, New York City, it may be truly drive through because of space limitations. However, it is often safer to use one inside a bank or store at night or on the weekends to avoid crime.

I'm 1/4 German so this was very interesting to watch especially the part about justifying purchases because I do that without thinking sometimes. I think it's just in my DNA now that I have watched this.

I love Feli's videos although as an American I don't always agree with her but your comment about friendliness is interesting. In the US friendliness depends on where you live and if you're in a major city or not. For instance, you mentioned that in the North of England for the most part people tend to be more friendly as opposed to London. That is exactly true here with regards to say New York City and the Midwest where Feli lives. NYC is like London in that it's go, go, go, and kind of harsh and in your face environment. Whereas, the US Midwest is famous for their politeness and easygoing nature. I love the Midwest sincel my wife is from Green Bay, Wisconsin and it is just the friendliest place I've ever been to include Canada, just sayin'...

When the person’s talking about driving up to the atm, I’m pretty sure they’re not saying it’s beside the road because they’re not here either. They mean can’t you just drive up to it in the parking lot & just stay in your car.

Curious.. Do you often chat with folks at the grocery store? As an American I can have a friendly conversation with a fellow shopper almost every time I go shopping. It's small things, like " can I reach that for you"? (I'm tall, so if I see someone having to reach I always ask if I can help them.)

I'm of Asian decent born in America. I love my country. Yes, we have problems and not perfect but we are a free country with amazing natural beauty! Proud American!

I actually don't recall getting bad customer service in Germany, the UK, or anywhere else in Europe.

Fyi i dont lend money. I would rather consider it a gift. Then there is no awkward payback phase. Large amounts of money... ill do it twice. If someone asks again, i offer to sit down for a mael and discuss what and if i can help them get things together for them . So that asking to borrow money is not a frequent thing. Hopefully help their quality of life get a little better. But thats just me :)

Customer service varies from one store to another. For example, most stores like Walmart etc. if you ask an employee where an item is, they will usually point you in the right direction or the you what aisle, ie; aisle J3 or whatever. In Publix supermarket if you ask, not only do they tell you the location, they will lead you there and help find what you seek. If they're out of it, they can usually tell you when it'll be restocked. Love our Publix stores.

One of the things I do that a few of my friends who are from other countries were kinda weirded out by is I've always just stopped and complimented someone like walking down the street if I see someone who's wearing a cool shirt or has a nice hairstyle or something I will say that's such a cool shirt or I love your hair lol and of course they will say thanks even tell me where they got the shirt at or tell me why they got the hairstyle and we will have a short ten or five minute little exchange lol my foreign friends always ask if I knew that person I'm like no lol

These things work if you are of a certain age. Especially connections with people. As an older male no one is going to invite me to hang out for a game night.

As for the first one about openness and friendliness... it genuinely saddens me a bit to think that the whole world isn't like this. Anywhere you go here, be it the grocery store or a concert or a park or a gas station or even just walking down the street, you can talk to pretty much anyone and even if they're not particularly nice or in a good mood, they'll probably still talk to you or help you with a question you might have. I can't imagine living somewhere where that's not the case, society would feel so cold and distant to me. I have friendly conversations with complete strangers pretty much every day!

Thats so Bavarian... West Germans are open and friendly you can talk to anyone anytime.

I have a love hate Lationship with drive up ATMs. One time I started to put a check into the slot and the wind sent the thing flying. One of the bank employees got it back for me. I’ prefer direct deposit. I usually use my debit card for purchases. I I have a check of any sort I electronically scan it for deposit.

ATMs are not road side here but you can drive up to one at your bank

One of the things I liked about this video is that it included things about Americans and not just the US. I feel like sometimes these videos are like 5 positive things about the US and 5 negative things about the US, and are really 5 negative things about Americans. Like the positive is the space, the weather, the geographic diversity, etc., (maybe with a "feels like the movies" thrown in), and the negative is *insert laundry list of why Americans are bad*.

Yeah the individual thing is kinda nice. I love Japanese culture but don’t flaunt it in public because it makes me feel like a huge nerd but it’s a more private thing. I have a nice collection of Japanese things around the house and it looks fine. It’s a lot of anime and cultural things that are just fun to have around. The shopping isn’t that bad as fortunately the stores use bags you can’t see through and it’s perfect for keeping people from seeing. It’s really hard to find any Japanese culture in the UK or France as it’s not easy to find a decent store that sells Japanese things. The states that isn’t a problem as I live in Florida where there’s a few places I frequent for this stuff and it’s tasteful you know and it’s actually nice to have something to look nice.

I'm American, but honestly I feel like I would fit in pretty well in Germany. I'm very logical/practical and speak very directly. I also hate small talk. I feel like my personality is more like a German's in some ways.

In America we have kind of a history of winniing. Revolutionary war, War of 1812, WW1, WW2, Korean War, Desert storm , Deserf Shield. We were beaten by our own politicians. This menality trickles all the way down to school sports. It leads to an IN YOUR FACE, kind of attitude LOL
