The most insane thing about Shohei is that even if he was only average at hitting and pitching, it would still be incredibly impressive to be able to do those two things at that level in the major leagues. The fact that he is an all-star and maybe Hall of Fame caliber player at both is almost incomprehensible to longtime baseball fans. Even if he retired today, he would still be a one-of-a-kind player forever.

he wont be the greatest hitter of all time in any metric and same goes for pitching but if he can keep this season numbers going for even 10 years actually he could be a hall of fame hitter and a hall of fame pitcher and could make the case as the goat because of his dual skill set needs to go to a contender to help his case

@@momentary_ Shohei is ranking as the best hitter alone right now in MLB for both leagues in this season so far, his stat (avg, 3B) is even better than Judge of last season while HR is about same pace (Shohei 35 & Judge 36 and Judge had all good protections from many teammates while since Trout was injured Shohei had been walking in many AB [last game 4 BB from Yankees] just like his 2021 & 2022 seasons). Even so Shohei is still now the leader of OPS, HR, 3B, Slg and 3rd in RBI in MLB. In AL, Shohei ranks 2nd for Hit & OBP, 3rd for Run, and 5th for hitting Avg. Don't forget Shohei serves as DH even in his start pitching game of every six day rotation (without any skip of rotation since last season even with broken nail or blister for 3 weeks) without taking any rest in between (Shohei only took two days rests in this season so far). As an Ace of Angels, Shohei has seven wins and also lowest hitting average as a pitcher leading in MLB. Don't forget Shohei was the 2021 AL MVP and the runner-up for 2022 MVP! The current WAR and other performance evaluating systems in MLB COULDN'T calculate and evaluate Shohei's total performances in Two-way correctly because there was No True Two-way Player before Shohei. Therefore the current systems DIDN'T give the true evaluation to Shohei (e. g. WAR deducted several points from Shohei as a DH but DIDN'T increase the point for Shohei as a qualified starting pitcher). Basically Shohei for last three seasons has been doing a Hall framer's more than 6 seasons of work because Shohei as one roaster doing two Hall framers' workloads at the same time frames, which means there should be additional bonuses for Shohei of doing things of incapable by all other MLB players (might be a plus three years jobs). In addition to Shohei's great performances in his rookie season, Shohei's four seasons of Great Jobs would be equal to Hall framer's 10 years of work at the end of this season😁!

The only thing this video doesn't tell you is how unheard of it is to be both a pitcher and a hitter and be at the top of the game in both. They briefly mentioned it at the end, but Babe Ruth is really the only other person in that conversation.

Ohtani played for the Fighters in the Japanese league right out of highschool and won just about every individual award there was to win in Japan by age 22...he came over to the U.S. at 23 to the LA Angels, who are very much second fiddle in their city to LA Dodgers, but who were the only team who would let him keep going as a two-way player. He kept getting hurt in his first few seasons - a lot of commentators were saying that the Angels were ruining him and allowing him to work too hard by trying to do everything instead of just being a very good pitcher or a very good hitter. The Angels have a bit of a reputation for this - they keep signing all the big free agents right as those players start to suck, or constantly get hurt. But then in 2021 he finally put everything together and since then he's been one of the best pitchers and one of the best hitters in all of MLB consistently. The problem is that the Angels as a franchise are absolutely snakebitten. Right now they have two of the best players ever (Ohtani, Trout) and a bunch of other guys who on paper should be really solid...but they barely have a winning record! They just consistently underperform. The owner has been willing to pay for big contracts for star players, but they routinely skimp on scouting, player development (there are horror stories about their junior team players not getting enough pay to house or feed themselves properly - living 6-to-an-apartment or in broken down trailers, having to eat McDonalds instead of being able to consult with nutritionists...etc.) and all the behind the scenes stuff that helps athletes perform at their best. And there doesn't seem to be a lot of accountability either - one of their star pitchers overdosed and died on drugs a few years ago that one of the clubhouse attendants was dealing. It was a horrible tragedy, and not the kind of thing that would happen in a well-run club. For his own sake and for the sake of the game, I hope Shohei goes somewhere - anywhere! - else where he can be put in position to get team success as well as just winning individual honors, and where his talents can benefit an organization and ownership that actually treats its athletes right.

I would have loved to see him play in the national league when pitchers had to hit. I’m not a fan of the universal DH but I think it would’ve been something special to watch and to see the strategy of it. Do you move him into hitting #5 or 6? Do you keep him in the typical #9 pitchers spot? There’s been some pitchers that are halfway decent at the plate, my favorite is when you’d see a pitcher knock one over the fence. Such a shame we won’t ever get to see those things again
@darnell-mooney

you should watch foolish baseball's video on him to get some context. nobody else hits and pitches unless they are forced to by the rules. nobody else can be elite at one and even do the other at an MLB level. he is elite at both which is not comparable to anything else in sports. like if Messi could clone himself and play GK at the same time and was a top 5 GK in the world.

Hi guys. He is going to be a free agent after this year. So the Angels are considering trading him so he doesn't sign with another team next year and they would get nothing for him. This way they can trade him for probably several good prospects. There has been a lot of talk about the Yankees being a possible place for him. That would put the 2 best hitters in the American League Him and Aaron Judge on the same team.

The Angels are a long shot at a wild card and if it looks impossible for them to make the playoffs at the tread deadline, he's probably going to be a Yankee. I'll never understand why teams don't let pitchers also bat. Even if they're trying to rest their pitching arm, their pitching arm does the least amount of work when batting other than the forearm muscle. Babe fucking Ruth was a pitcher and a batter, and I think he had a decent career as a flat slob. Edit : It's also insane how far he can hit the ball when he doesn't truly follow through on his swing.
@richardtsandee8603
@richardtsandee8603 10 месяцев назад
The reason why pitchers don't bat is verry simple .... batting practice and pitching practice are 2 complete different things , so you need to do both practices ( Othani trains for more than 9 hours a day ) and the reason you had to go back 100 years in time to find another example says enough ( btw Babe Ruth was a pitcher who turned into a batter and he only did both simultaneous for 1 season... and the numbers of that season were not at the same level as Othani ) And Othani 's power comes from his hips...

It's very rare to be simultaneously the top batter & pitcher in baseball, a "2-way" as it is called. He is also a fast runner & can steal bases. He has understandably been compared to the Babe, but has since gone beyond that definition & stats. Number of Homeruns in 2021 was 34 & in 2021 was 46, if those stats are right. And being that he is single & handsome, he has a way with the ladies (I don't mean sex, heh) & people have witnessed some girls crying awaiting to see him in person at the stadium or something like that.
