Yes it did. I li ed in Dallas when JFK got killed. The whe city shut down and we t into a great mourning. I live in Austin and people did the same when Stevie died. It was a very sad day. I remember sensing a great feeling a great sense of loss.

I missed his show in Salem, only a month before his untimely demise. I can say we felt it here too, in Portland, OR. It was that ineffable feeling of loss (Jimi, Janis and Jim M., etc.) that just tears you up, but you know that life must go on...

74dart man I think I read somewhere, Little Wing was not done as a future release. I think also it was recorded in Home studio of Jackson Brown when Texas Flood etc was being recorded by SRV and Double Trouble. Please let me know if anyone knows information my comment... Thx SRV💜🎵💜

While I do love stevie's version, I just don't get the same sense of majesty from it as jimi's. Jimi's version was otherworldly imo

Yes, indeed. I second the motion on that. I got to see Stevie a couple of times, living here in Austin. His playing was so frikking awesome, in your face, and would blow you away. By that time, I had gotten to see a few blues folks like Muddy, Albert (both) etc. I had also seen black dudes impersonate, or copy Jimi, that would do, and could do excellent copies (note for note).. even one guy I remember, he was this black cat, left handed, with bandana and white strat, upside down maple neck, along with some of Jimi's 'tricks', but, when the band left space for the impersonators to improvise, they came up short, there was no history in their playing. They hadn't studied the blues enough, if at all, with those old LPs. When I got the chance to see Stevie, I knew right away he was the real deal. He had not only done his homework....he LIVED his homework. Yeah, but, anyways, I agree with you. The first time I saw the El Macambo Video, I could see it in the comfort of my home, and I could clearly get wiped away by this driving force, like a locomotion train, pushing, yet giving Stevie the highwire to do his thang, he jumped right on that train, and played like nobody's business. He was the MAN.

Everything SRV is amazing, but this song is just an unreal rendition and I don't think anyone else could pull it off. To me, it's everything SRV is capable of perfectly placed into one epic live performance.

You were indeed blessed to see Stevie live. I kept thinking that I would catch one of his shows in Houston, but I waited too long. My boss used to see him often and tell me about his incendiary shows. I am friends with one of his cousins who tells wonderful stories about them as children. I'm glad that you got to see him live! Wow, you are lucky. I only saw him Live once. I was working for Bill Graham Presents (BGP), in the Bay Area, and Steve Ray and Double Trouble headlined a New Years Eve, with Tower of Power, show at Henry J. Kaiser Auditorium in Oakland. It was the first time I got to work the stage, so I was very excited. I had heard of Stevie Ray at the time, but thought of it as "some Blues act". I got to flashlight SRV up the stairs and get him to the stage. Then I saw him play...........F**K!!! In hindsight, it was probably better that I didn't really appreciate him until I saw him play. I would've probably crapped my pants, guiding him up the stage stairs. I had a "Staff" T-Shirt, for that show, but it's long gone. I think it must have fed a lot of happy moths.

he did voodoo chile a different way every time he played it but it always sounded identical. watch the "austin city limits one" he's wearing a turquoise shirt ,then there are two more videos one hes wearing black pants and multi colored shirt and another he has the solid white guitar ,all three versions he played some of the cords different but it sounds exactly the same. i think to SRV he was bored with and had to show off his talent.

Thanks! Yeah Stevie is the best I've seen play Hendrix. He keeps it so authentic yet somehow still sounds different enough that you know it's him. This is the best I've seen since Hendrix played it himself.

Exactly! Everyone else seems to adulterate his tunes somehow, but Stevie was the one guy who could pull it off, yet still leave his mark on the performance.

I agree with that, Stevies covers are great. A lot of guitarists have tried, and failed. Even very well known guitarists, which just shows how special Stevie was.

Yeah I haven't seen anything I'd consider bad or even off live by Stevie. Jimi did go a bit mad sometimes so there are times when he certainly wasn't as consistent.

The studio couldn't properly capture Stevie's magic. I feel his studio albums lack the punch that you hear when he's playing live. While I don't mind putting a Stevie record on every now and then, I'm consistenty putting on bootlegs. He's at his best when he's live and on stage!

BlackTalon 1 jimi was most definately a live act. Listen to berkley, Atlanta pop, any of the fillmore albums. He definately has his sloppy shows, but when he was on fire he was way beyond stevie atleast creatively

Hendrix definitely had some bad shows but he had some fantastic ones also... You mentioned the Hollywood Bowl but my God .... Monterey pop, Miami pop, Atlanta, the Fillmore shows with the Band of Gypsys, Royal Albert Hall show and people will still be listening to his version of the Banner at Woodstock 100 years from now... Not too shabby for a 4 year career......

BlackTalon 1 Jimi was inconsistent, probably because he was over-worked and underpaid. He got fed up playing his hit songs and doing gimmicks on stage. Suddenly he would do something amazing and jaw-droppingly beautiful like Villa Nova Junction at Woodstock. Filmore East concerts were amazing when he just stood still and played. If he lived he would have worked with Miles Davis and would have really evolved.

It's hard to say that as without the original composition by Hendrix, SRV would have nothing to play!

Fair enough, but I think if you listen to Jimi's first, then Stevie's, it's pretty obvious, to me at least, that SRV's is a better version. Great channel by the way. Keep it up.

You must be high... Jimi's version has way more style than SRV. Stevie's version is good but nowhere near Jimi's creativity. SRV basically only plays one style while Jimi had a lot of different style's he'd do. Jimi was WAY more or original and creative than SRV. Stevie still great too of course but not on the same level as Jimi. Jimi was the originator, SRV the imitator - don't forget that!

In fairness to Jimi, we rarely got to hear him play when he wasn't high. Stevie's playing only got better with his sobriety, it's such a damn shame we lost him so soon after getting sober. I often wonder what Jimi would have sounded like had he gotten clean. Both were truly gifted & both taken far too soon.

agreed, but then again, the same could be said of Hendrix and whoever his influences are, and their influences and so on and so on. So I've never held that against a player. I just take what I hear and see of SRV and it touches me in a way that no other guitarist can!

You can tell by SRV's playing that he absolutely adored Jimi though. They both had that "fire" in their soul too.

David, I love SRV also but let's face it... Jimi changed music... Listen to various tracks recorded in 1966 and 67 the listen to the Are You Experienced track.... Whole different ballgame.......

Sad that you never got to see him live. I went to college just south of Austin, Texas and got to see him in small venues before he made it big. He could fill a small night club up at the mention of his name even then. I actually got to talk with him for about a minute one time. Very nice and a humble guy when it came to his talent.

It depends what you're into I guess, Jimi did go off the beaten track now and again but he was the first guitarist I heard and made me want to play the guitar. He laid the foundation for players like Stevie, then Stevie took it onwards.

Totally agree. Voodoo Chile is terrific. And I found one other person in the world who appreciates Mary Had a Little Lamb as much as I to. That song has so much soul. SRV takes a nursery rhyme and turns it into a masterpiece. He's a genius.
