@@saschaschneider6355 1st- Gary Moore was a GREAT player/Artist. His Blues Alive album is phenomenal. Could he have played Jimi's Music ?.... quite possibly....but he didn't choose to (publicly anyway). Jimi has been covered by other prominent Artists (Little Wing being 1 example) The Music industry has given us so many GREAT guitarists over time each unique in their style & Greatness. There really is no 1 great guitarist, they all were Great in their own way BUT it was SRV with Double Trouble who put their stamp on Voodoo Child with a Texas flavor and his unique (natural) style afforded him that Honor in a truly dignified fashion. Combining BOTH the playing & vocal ability, I really believe no one could have covered that song to the level that SRV & DT did. Gary Moore was GREAT ! But it was SRV who stepped up when it came to Jimi.

Only one person has ever won a Grammy for covering Jimi Hendrix: Stevie Ray Vaughan. Think about that for a minute... someone won a Grammy covering the untouchable Jimi Hendrix. That's insane. If you had to say one thing about him definitively, it's that SRV is the most underrated guitarist of all time. All we hear are the same 3 studio tracks on the radio over and over again... but nobody knows about his impressive live body of work, his jazz offshoots, his acoustic performances, collaborations... hell, the fact his lead guitar work practically gave Bowie's 'Let's Dance' album it's signature sound. Nobody knows his TRUE genius. I'm working on a project that aims to change that...

One of the amazing things to watch during this video are the close ups of his left hand. He plays much heavier gauge strings than almost anyone ever put on a guitar, and he completely manhandles them. John Mayer guessed he would only last a few minutes bending strings this heavy.

Yeah, when Stevie played, everyone stopped what they were doing and just stared in awe. You need to do a reaction to his live version of Voodoo Child during his Austin City Limits show in 89' I do believe. It's just as every bit mind blowing as this song. When you have guitarists like Clapton saying they just can't do what he does, that's saying something.

@hesch-tag
@hesch-tag 5 лет назад
@@JB-xh5mc You are absolutely right about that. It's just that to me Jimi was so much better in a musical sense ( songwriting, producing, inventing new sounds, improvising, to name a few). Only thing is that SRV was more consistent because Jimi sometimes was out of it and quite sloppy. Jimi Hendrix was a visionary, a true genius and with all due respect, But SRV was not a genius. He was intense, fierce, technically proficient but also quite one-dimensional. But you are right, everybody has the right to have their preferences even though I will never understand why someone would pick SRV's Voodoo Child over Jimi's Royal Albert Hall or Berkeley version and his Little wing ( which I really love) over Jimi's studio and Royal Albert Hall version. You may perceive this as arrogance but I assure you, this is just a very deep feeling I have.

An additional FYI about SRV & his music... Stevie had freakishly strong hands/fingers and strung his guitars with the thickest gauge strings available; I understand before the strings he wanted were commercially available he used piano strings. That's why he waa able to wring such incredible sounds from his axe... you can hear the strings "protesting" as he manipulates them. They were so heavy that virtually no one else could play the instrument. One last thing: he didn't sing during Little Wing because it was an instrumental. Jimi didn't sing during his version either.

Sistah, you feel it just like we do when SRV plays like no other.Stevie always puts in his Texas blues licks on a lot of covers.But nobody ad-libs on his guitar better than Stevie.Buddy Guy said in an instrumental that SRV played and said paraphrasing"the guitar is not the master, but Stevie is the master of guitar none better".yeah,yeah Sistah great pick.thank you both.

Stevie was (is) a guitar God. Sadly he passed away at such a young age, 35. I think halflifesistah would love Texas Flood or Look At Little Sister.

like when singers hits a note and gets you in feeling, when a guitarist hits a note bending up or hits it.... its a feeling!like when Celine Dion hits hits the note in most of the high notes on her songs, or SRV bends up to this song! Its... hits... a... damn... FEELING!

SRV will forever be an icon of Texas blues and the master of the Stratocaster. I was privileged to have seen him live several times and to have been friends Cutter and Peggy Brandenberg who spent years with Stevie on the road and shared many personal stories of their time spent with Stevie in our conversations.
