Brita Phillips>The Cars any day. This rendition has so much power and emotion. Britta's sound and style is timeless and my God is that voice enchanting.
Lovely, lovely rendition. Ms. Britta, congratulations on your debut solo album! I love you (and Dean, ofc). My day won't be complete without listening to your music. More power!
I love this better than the original. I see alot of people comparing you to Hope Sandoval and Lana Del Rey, and I do love them, but the difference is that you can actually sing on key with ease. So glad I found your music!
Every year or so I go looking for more of your music since Closeface has had such a big impact on me and this week I found this. Rick Ocasec is pretty picky it would seem as to who he lets cover Cars stuff and in this example he has shown very good judgement I think. Your voice is beautiful, my wife asked me what I like about it and I can't even come up with a answer, it's just pleasing to my ears all around. Thank you Britta, you have opened me to new, different experiences, I'm most usually a death metal guy but your voice for some reason speaks to me.
Who's going to tell you it's to late who gonna pay attention to your dreams maybe you can get take a freight train .. just don't let it be on my tracks who's gonna drive you home...Mr John Mayer 😎 great song in & video I like that👍👏👏👏
Hehehe like from the show. VEry funny and good creative. I love how in interviews she's talked about wanting to move beyond the show, but since people always reference it she has no choice to just accept it even though she doesn't like it.
omg britta i love you! this is amazin. i found jem 4 years ago. you helped me. you guided me vocally! because of u i can sing comfortably. i found my voice.
I like the use of the pads, creating an ethereal something something. A rich mix. Some of the video sections remind me of some of my fashion videos, though maybe not so much the model, who does not remind me of my fashion videos, but has something unusual and sad about her. Still very watchable.
This is a different version from Britta than her Skyline Studios version. She also looks younger in this version. I resonate more with this one though because it has a more fuzzy warm feeling to it. Nonetheless great music by a great artist. Thanks for sharing with us.
This is one of those cover versions that's better than the original. I think. Can't make my mind up. Both versions are stunning. This version is in my favourite playlist and I think I must listen to it at least a few times a week, just beautiful 😍😍😍😍
and here's a Luck or Magic music review by UNDER THE RADAR and After a three decade long career featuring stints as the original singing voice of Jem in the '80s cartoon Jem and the Holograms followed by Belltower; Ultrababyfat; the recently reunited Luna; and Dean & Britta, her ongoing band with husband Dean Wareham, Britta Phillips has finally and remarkably released her debut solo album.Despite the couple's recent relocation to Los Angeles, a slightly cool and at times frosty vibe permeates this record, which comprises five originals and five covers. Two of the covers are of well-known songs such as Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" and The Cars' "Drive." Phillips coyly deadpans the vocals to the latter while wisely keeping the melodic structure and basic arrangement of the original. The analog synth sounds make these songs her own, and it's telling that these two electronic-tinged covers were produced by now sadly-deceased DJ and rave pioneer Scott Hardkiss. After Hardkiss' passing, the rest of this was recorded much later with DFA house engineer Eric Broucek, yet the album flows beautifully and doesn't feel disjointed at all. Among the other covers are Dennis Wilson's brilliant "Fallin' in Love" single, the 1969 Evie Sands obscurity "One Fine Summer Morning," and "Wrap Your Arms Around Me," the 1983 debut solo single by Abba's Agnetha Fältskog. The originals here fall along similar sounds, producing a cool, mellow, and lovely record. One exception is the slightly unsettling closing track "Ingrid Superstar," named after the former Andy Warhol superstar who disappeared in 1984 and has not been found. It's a fitting reminder of Britta's connection to Warhol, particularly on Dean & Britta's 2009 release 13 Most Beautiful Songs for Andy Warhol's Screen Tests
@@brittaphillips Wait a minute... I remember you replying to me years ago! I remember showing it to my brother! Where did your earlier reply go? I replied something expressing my amazement to have you answer yourself :) Now, of course, I'm a little less surprised about that itself, but more confused about what happened to the original reply 🤔 But thank you once again 😊😊😊
