Widmark was one of the best that Hollywood had to offer. I have never read a negative thing about him. Great actor and wonderful family guy. He managed to avoid the garbage pile of Hollywood. Loved his movies.
Brock's Last Case, released 5 March 1973. Richard Widmark as Lt. Max Brock; Henry Darrow as Arthur Goldencorn; Beth Brickell as Ellen Ashley; David Huddleston as Jack Dawson; Henry Beckman as Jake Hinkley; Will Geer as J. Smiley Krenshaw; John Anderson as Joe Cuspis; Michael Burns as Stretch Willis; Pat Morita as Sam Wong; Victor Mohica as Red-Eye; Jean Allison as Alma Gamm; Vaughn Taylor as Doc Walters; Dub Taylor as Judge Robbins; Rudy Bond as McNulty; Richard Hale as Hathaway; Marjorie Bennett as Mrs. Henderson; Hal K. Dawson as Mr. Henderson; Barry Miller as Staats; Andy Albin, Storekeeper; Carolyn Stellar, Dispatcher; Anthony Caso, Mugger.
Refreshing to see this filmed entirely on location in small-town Cali. The cafe and even the sheriff's office was ramshackle and Brock's ''dream'' ranch house was perfect! My favorite Widmark movie was 'The Bedford Incident'~ the sick look on his face at the ending was matchless!
Well done fellows!! Very good job indeed; Came just for Richard Widmark, but stayed for the whole film. Great stuff, real entertainment, very enjoyable. Thanks for uploading this Chris Johnson!
@@elaineproffitt1032 I agree. But he had a good innings at 93. He was also married to the same woman for 55 years, until she died, which is not usual for famous actors. He lived through a tumultuous century.
Doug Case; I agree about Richard Widmark. Always recognizable among the look--alike "Hollywood" male glamour actors. I've seen most of his movies, but this one with it's 60's.70;s music was convoluted, interesting and new to me. I liked seeing Henry Darrow and Grandpa Walton again. Thanks, Chris Johnson, for posting this vintage great. Doug, this is the first time I've seen matching Avatars! DBB
As a twentysomething in the 70s, I remember Henry Darrow getting a lot of work. I knew his face here, but had to find out his name from the credits. Good actor, and I'm guessing he was probably a lot like his character here. Just not always suspected of murder😉🤭

I was always a fan of Richard Widmark, he was already old when I was a kid but I always enjoyed his movies and I don't recall ever watching a bad one... It's funny because last night I found " The secret ways" on RU-vid and it was filmed in 1961 and seeing him again in that 1973 movie with the typical 70's music is interesting... He really hadn't changed much in 12 years...
The opening sequence is an on-point study of obsessive-compulsive disorder:-) Respect to the screenwriter who managed to display the problem in 10 picturesque minutes instead of making 12-seasons series.
I became a life long fan of Richard Widmark when I first watched him in the movie 🍿 The Last Wagon. I’ve watched that movie 3 or 4 times. I agree that he’s a great actor in anything he acts in. However, I most admire him for his upstanding character and his faithfulness to his marriage and his family. In the environment in which he lived that, to me, seemed nearly inhumanly impossible. And I felt so sorry for him in this movie 🍿. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Widmark just was one of those “SMOOTH” guys, weather playing a heavy, gangster, military man, Hollywood would have been far less interesting without him, and I miss him now.
He was indeed a great actor. One critic once that that watching Mr. Widmark was like looking into the face of the devil. I'm sure he meant that as a compliment.
Thank you for posting a classic with probably two of the best Hollywood actors. The story is based on a true Rescue Service even better! Never saw it before!. It is phenomenal and even today has you sitting on the edge of your seat. 1/10/19 The well-rounded cast was superb but of course the mega Stars Yul Brynner who was well known for his chameleon capabilities, a king in his own right of Hollywood & Richard Widmark who never received the accolades he should have gotten is why I picked it.. Of all the actors probably in the history of Hollywood Mr. Widmark could really make your skin crawl as the bad guy and yet you could love him for no one could play a psychopath so thoroughly and no one could beat him at it. Yet he could play a regular man in other parts. Mr. Widmark chose his parts very carefully so each presentation unless it was a bad director is an almost perfect body of work maybe not from the others in the the presentation but from him yes. He was careful not to have failures so his work is not that prolific. My understanding is he made the break into Hollywood playing the Killer of a woman he shoves down the stairs in a wheelchair and he laughs and it's his laugh really what throws you over and just freaks you out is its because he's giggling he's not sounding insane he's just sounding like he's at the carnival or out dancing having a great time! Believe me I've worked with this type of killer in my medical career and they sound like that! You don't know from one moment to the next what they really are thinking. They don't have a conscience like most people and he was able to play that to a T. I saw him in many movies though where he played the good guy and if you'd never seen those Killer movies you would never have thought that this mild looking man with piercing blue eyes could walk the other side. The first film I ever saw him in was an O'Henry B&W compilation put together I believe for television. He's in one of four shorts, Marilyn Monroe is also in that compilation. I will tell you that you'd love Mr. Widmark and then you realize he's a psychopath. Couldn't care less who starred in the role with him that's how good he was. I saw that when I was in junior high back in the seventies and remembered it and was able to find a copy of it a couple years ago.
wow..i dont know how this one got by me, I just love it when you think you saw all the movies made by a particular actress or actor..then BINGO one you never saw before....a nice treat thanks!
Thanks Craig, at first I thought you made a spello! So, reading your comment I paused for a sip of my coffee and then it hit me, I almost spewed my coffee everywhere. So fun thanks.
This kind of movie is sure not the kind of picture I’ve seen Richard Widmark in. He’s always in a bad predicament in this movie. Almost feel sorry for him. In 1973, Richard Widmark was reaching a point in his life where he was at a turn of his career. RIP Richard Widmark! Thank you. Johnny, Montréal, Canada. 🌈🌎👍❤️😁
No one played a bad ass like Richard Widmark; that creepy laugh of his in so many of his dastardly roles was spine chilling. It's said he was very smart and very nice in real life, but when he got typecast early on in his career it stuck to him like flypaper. Enjoyable, though.
Jim MacKenzie You sent money to a Indian you didnt know to fix up a old farm, you never saw? And your a cop? Well the city where you worked is definitely better off since you quit. And the indian was better off , while you were sending money, he obviously, didnt spend it on the farm.
Frank, Saw him in "Kiss of Death" when I was young, did not like him, as I grew up I came to appreciate what a wonderful actor he was. He was married to Jean Hazlewood from 1942 until her death in 1997. He left us a wide body of work that we still can enjoy, thanks to RU-vid and Turner Classic Movies. Happy viewing from Las Vegas, NV December 15, 2018
Richard Widmark lifted up any movie he featured in. Not a great actor, but, like the biggest stars, he didn't need to be. He had that 'watchability' that few actors today exhibit.
Baskerville: Actually he was a really good actor---check out most of his early films, like Panic in the Streets, Night In The City, and Pickup on South Street. He was never the "pretty boy" type, but kicked ass in the tough guy roles. He was definitely above-average, not mediocre.
Richard Widmark was a great actor in that he was so versatile and could play almost any part. Check out The Last Wagon too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xRI4tnfFHr4.html
The music score was AWFUL, but the storyline, cast & actual acting were quite good!! The murderer was NOT who I thought it was, at all. Nice to see SO MANY truly gifted character actors from classic Westerns in this!! And, how interesting to have a serious mystery w/such a comedic twist!! VERY WELL DONE!! Until now, my two favorite Widmark movies were probably Two Rode Together & The Last Wagon!!
Fuck Cute!! Richard Widmark was a tough guy in real life just watch like he handled Lucy !! This is a gritty action movie even with him being older !! Even had a little humor in it especially the opening scene when all citizens are too busy to call 911 when Brock has his hands full with a couple of punks , no wonders he says I don't need this Bullshit anymore !!??!! Widmark always did good work !! RIP
Pretty darn good for a made for TV movie. Widmark has a kind of charm in this one, and the supporting cast was fun. Thanks for posting. p.s. Madigan didn't have to be such a damn hot dog. .
