Today we are having the very first Dirtbag run! Sometimes in life, not everything goes as planned. This is definitely one of those times.
I was very hard on my jeep this year at King of the Hammers and I paid the price.
I owe a huge thank you to Powerstop Brake for making this trip possible! Having flexible sponsors is the only way many of us content creators can afford to do trips like this. Enjoy the Video! I had a blast making it!

The title says "Broken Down" in it so Google decided to show an opening ad for an extend car warranty. LOL. I have a warranty for each of my two vehicles and I keep them at the end of my arms. The RCVs have a "no questions asked" lifetime warranty. I would definitely swap them out as well. Maybe once you do a postmortem, you can keep spares on hand for whatever you broke. I'd like to see the specifics of the failure.

@@hughsmitham722 Check out this image. www.carid.com/rcv-performance/ultimate-cv-axle-set.html It looks like it is impossible to break the outer race though maybe the stub shaft could break. The inner race maybe could break or the inner shaft where it is splined to the inner race. My money is on grease contamination causing wear between the races and balls. This lead to uneven force on the inner race ears until one let go. My next guess would be a crack in the inner race originating in one of the splines or maybe the inner shaft where it is splined to the inner race.

I had it fixed later that day. They had the part I needed at the rcv booth. I cracked the bell so the shafts were fine which is good. I told them what I broke and they handed over the replacements no questions asked. Took about an hour to fix once I got the part's 👍

Ken R it’s a 96 5.2 with a rough country long arm using 7” Clayton coils. Front axle is just like Nates a late 70s hp44 but with an OX locker and all Yukon axles, super joints, and hardcore locking hubs. Rear is a ford 8.8 with a yukon super 8.8 kit and a yukon grizzly locker. Front and rear bumper are made by Kurt Davis of kdfabworks.com and the sliders and cage are custom. After that trail run I picked up new shock in hammer town and upgraded to bilstein 5165 and a rubicon front shock adapter. I am running 35/1250/15 MTRs at 12 psi and I am able to concur most trails.

@@jamesgoldman6711 James, thanks so much... I've got a 98 5.2. I spent most of last summer gathering parts and I'll be getting busy this Spring installing. I have a Dynatrak Pro Rock HP44 with an OX locker sitting in a crate - I'm going to be upgrading it to WJ brakes; a ford 8.8 / Yukon kit / OX locker / Artec truss waiting for the rear and the same Rough Country kit. It's good to hear that you're successful in running 35's. I've read a lot of arguments against it. As for the bumpers, the front as a do it yourself kit that I'll be moding to my liking and for the rear, I came across a set of blueprints online and I'll be trying my hand at fabing it myself. No frame stiffeners? Still using the N249? I'll also be installing a NP242 with a cable shifter and a 6 pinion planatery. It's nice to see someone keeping the old iron alive. Ken R sounds like a really nice build. I have not added frame stiffeners but I did weld the long arm kit to the unibody. I swapped the 249 for a 242 with a sye. If your VIC still works when you do the swap pull the screen out and you will see two sets of connectors. One set of red and one set of black. To make the 242 show the correct things on the screen it’s as easy as unplugging the set of connectors and plugging the other ones together. They are color coded and a male and female so you can’t get it wrong.

I know the feeling... I took a friend wheeling with me, his first time on the rocks. We came up to the first obstacle. The guys in front of me were having tough time but I thought if I hit it a little hard I'd make it look easy... well... nope not me... I blew-up the carrier in the rear Diff to the point it need to be removed just to get off the trail.... ugh...

At least being broke you were able to focus on just filming. That's always my problem with wheeling is forgetting to film as much. Still a killer video, a decade on a Dana40 is a good 10 years!
