Huge respect! I was attacked by a dog when I was little and I'm 70 now, but that trauma NEVER leaves you! What you see on the outside is only the tip of the iceberg,

When I was around 8 years old, I went into the chicken coop to play with the baby chicks (farm gal here) Our rooster flew into my face with his sharp spurs and about took my face off. It was a continuous attack. In fact, I've been attacked by just about every farm animal there is. I had a horse that was my soul mate. She bucked, reared, bit, kicked, and rolled over on top of me. Nobody could get close to her without an attack. My butt's been on the ground SO many times with this "horse from hell" (that's what EVERYONE called her) They all said she would kill me one day, but, after I won her trust, she did everything I ever asked from her. Even with things that were scary things to her, she would trust me when I would whisper "it's okay, girl", she'd turn her ear back to listen to me, and she believe me. But, I've never been traumatized by her, or any animal... I loved her to death, and she wound up loving me, but it took 3 YEARS for her to trust me. Animals are unpredictable because they have fears that humans can't truly understand. I would love to know the circumstances leading up to the attack? Was the dog scared of you for some reason, was the dog not socialized, were the owners lazy with training? Or, was the dog there for the protection of the family? I'm SO sorry about your attack, but that was ONE dog out of millions of dogs. I know things were different in those days, people rarely trained their dogs. When I was young, we were visiting friends who had a huge St. Bernard. I was teasing and harassing the poor dog, and it eventually attacked me. Now, I rescue abused dogs and old horses that need a soft spot to find. Your story breaks my heart. Cats are fine, but, until you've loved a dog, and had a dog love you, you'll miss the greatest love of all. 🥰

@@danni1993 No, I never hated any animal, (except maybe a man!) in fact I love them so much I can't eat them. But the trauma scarred me deeper than the actual scars. I was walking the 1/2 mile home from school in 3rd grade when some big random dog charged me, knocked me down and mauled me. If it wasn't for a brave soul driving by who had to fend it off with a tire iron, I probably wouldn't be here. No clue who it belonged to or where it came from because it ran away, but it had a collar. On top of a long recovery I had to get a painful series of rabies shots because the dog wasn't found or caught. As an adult I had a sweet Saint Bernard who we loved dearly, but it was like having another needy toddler... that never grew up. I am definitely more of a cat person... all of the love but far less neediness. 😸

@@CharGC123 Thank you for responding to my questions. That would be the scariest situation I could have imagined. Most people would be traumatized after that experience! 😢 I'm so sorry you had to experience that as a child...or any age for that matter.

​@@danni1993 Before me, my brother was also attacked (by two dogs) while riding his bike, and thankfully got rescued by a neighbor who at least knew who they belonged to. They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, but I don't think I agree.

@@asianbaddie6867 no she did not almost die. but i do think it was brutal, i mean her face was disfigured by the dog. but she did live, she was never going to die from it but she now has to live with the trauma the rest of her life. which sucks.

i'd say a majority of bullies are not bad dogs. there's a handful of bad dogs that give them a bad reputation. it's not that they are common - it's just that there's so many terrible owners and they don't train their dogs, while it's a dog that must be trained to be a good dog, like chihuahuas who also lock their jaws, but will do less damage because they are smaller. but just as aggressive. been snapped at by two chis in my life except for my own, and bitten by a golden puppy... so trust me, it's not always pit bulls.

@cattabyss funny a chihuahua snapped at me for petting another dog. A pitbull growled at me when the owner said he was friendly. I guess you never know.

@@cattabyss Why bring up a toy breed? Toy breeds don’t maul people and kill them. I get it that owners are the issue in most cases, but these these breeds can be set off due to the genetic factors they were bred for. This has nothing to do with 1lb dog breeds you’re trying sugar coat this attack with. These big powerful dogs can kill.

I personally don’t think pit bulls should be able to be pets!! This type of thing happens way to often. I mean the poor mother and her two kids. Her toddlers died and she was hospitalized. Such a tragic thing for their family. I feel for them and this sweet girl all they have endured in different ways!! 💔😢

Nope, still love them. I also know that not all dogs are created equal. Unfortunately pit bulls are one of the most over bred dogs (and improperly bred at that) which causes these issues.

@@AnnA-jd4xm They have been bred for over 400 years to kill things. They started as bull baiting dogs, a blood sport. When that was made illegal, they started using them for dog fighting. They are over bred to keep up the supply of fighting dogs. The surplus is sent to shelters or sold as pets. The dog fighters won't even keep them around their own families. That's why when there is a raid on these people, you see lots of dogs chained up outside. They know what they are capable of. They absolutely cannot be trusted. Yes, they are great dogs, until they're not. Then you will be in a fight for you life that you will probably lose. (By the way, I have owned 3 of these monsters many years ago before they were popular. I know what I'm talking about. And I was one of their biggest defenders. Not now.)

@@Fandomonium456 I used to own that breed back in the 70s. The first one bit a neighbor's face when he leaned over the fence to pet her. I had the exact same attitude as most pb owners. I blamed the poor guy for not seeing the Beware of Dog sign. Shameful. I am ashamed of that. I would never own another one. It's like we think our pb can do no wrong. Well, I found out the hard way that they are dangerous.
