Goodbed is the best reviewer out there! I bought this mattress, and have had it for a few weeks now. I think what Michael said in this review is very accurate. I will be going to goodbed website to put a review so more people can benefit from this review. I am 5'6 150 pounds, and my wife is 5'3 115 pounds. I also have AC arthritis on my right shoulder, so pressure relief is important. I bought the MEDIUM mattress, and I would say it feels like 4 out of 10 (soft). This Mattress doesn't feel like memory foam, but more like Latex. After trying a couple of other mattresses, this is probably the first one that allows me to sleep on my right side (with my AC arthritis) - which was amazing after many years of not sleeping on my right side. The problem is that after a few weeks, I am now waking up with hip pain - and I think it is because it sinks a little too much (like Michael said in this review). Sleeping on my back was fine. Now, a big factor for me to buy this bed was the "cooling technology", because I do tend to sleep hot at night. This mattress is better than other memory foam mattresses for sure, but don't expect any miracles. When you touch the mattress, it does feel cool, but once you sleep on it, that cool doesn't last more than 20-30 seconds. And if you put a protector and a bed sheet on, then you won't even notice that cool effect anymore. Again - it is still better than any memory foam I have tried, but I am not sure if I would pay THAT much more for this cooling technology. I would probably just go with their Signature Hybrid bed. So based on that, I am thinking about sending it back, and buying either the Oceano, the Alexander Hybrid or the Winkbed - the last 2 are based on goodbed website's recommendation (after taking their quiz), and the Oceano is because I see so many reviewers and people raving about it lol. I will keep you posted.

Hello, Thank you for your review. I am a side sleeper, 142 pounds. I sleep on an hybrid bed made of latex and coils. It is supposed to be a soft bed but it does not relieve point pressures at my hips and shoulders. What do you think, should I consider the medium or the soft version of the BA ? I like to sink a bit into a bed. I consider this mattress because I am also a hot sleeper. Thank you.

Thanks for all your videos and detailed reviews!! Have you tried the updated version with the zones coils? Supposedly it makes it a little firmer.

@goodbed 2 года назад
Hi Rachel -- Thanks for your question, and I'm terribly sorry we missed this earlier. In case it's still helpful for you, I have not personally tried the version with the zoned coils, however it's my understanding that they are using a 13.5 gauge coil for their zoned mid-section. If the entire coil unit were made of this wire gauge, it would quite a bit firmer, but with that coil in just the center zone I'd expect the net effect to be just slightly firmer. So at most, this would bring this from a Medium-Soft to a Medium on our softness spectrum. I hope that's helpful.

Hi - would love to hear your advice on soft vs medium for the Aurora for my body and sleep types. I'm a side sleeper, 125 lbs, and found the Purple 3 to be too firm (that's what I currently have). The Winkbed softer was too soft for me though. Hoping for something that keeps me in alignment but doesn't cause pressure on my shoulder (that's the problem with the Purple). Thanks so much!

Hi Mollie -- Thanks for your question, and sorry I missed this earlier. If the WinkBed Softer was too soft, I'd lean toward the Medium version of the Aurora over the Soft. We still found it to be softer than the Purple 3 for sure. I hope that's helpful.

As far as the temperature and cooling effects of the Aurora mattress, how does it compare with the new Tempur Luxe Breeze mattresses? I currently have a Tempurpedic Luxe Adapt mattress, which can get quite warm and am considering either the Aurora or new Tempur Luxe Breeze mattress.
@goodbed
@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi Michael -- Thanks for your question. As far as the initial coolness to the touch, I would say they are very similar in that both have a very palpable coolness to the touch. As far as any additional cooling features that are designed to keep you cool while you fall asleep and throughout the night, I'm afraid this is very hard for me to judge from personal experience since I don't have a tendency to sleep hot, so didn't experience any heat-related issues with either of those. We've experimented with all readily available test methods but found that they provide very unreliable or even misleading results, so we no longer release this data. Going further, true thermal laboratory testing practices for this sort of thing are still extremely nascent. The only remotely sophisticated thermal testing lab I know of in the industry exists at Tempur-Pedic, but unfortunately they are not at all unbiased. Also, their published test results only draw comparisons to other Tempur models, not non-Tempur models -- this is particularly important because spring mattresses tend to have inherently more airflow, which is the most effective method of maintaining temperature neutrality. Sorry there isn't a better answer available on this one.

Does the phase change material break down over time? Will this stay cool to the touch in 5-10 years? And can you feel the coolness when you have a mattress cover and sheets on top of it?
@goodbed
@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi Geoffrey. These are all very good questions, and they echo our own concerns. Quite a few mattresses have some kind of phase-change materials and coatings. But you will be putting a mattress protector, maybe a mattress pad, and sheets on top of it. While we can't scientifically measure the effect, our hunch is the same as yours -- that sheets and bedding are going to negate at least some of the 'cool feel' of phase-change materials. That said, they should still have some ability to absorb heat from your body. In our view, mattress types that promote air flow, such as innerspring and spring hybrid mattresses, should have the most resilient cooling properties vis-a-vis sheets and protectors. As for how long the phase-change coatings will last, they haven't been around long enough yet to know definitively. You can think of phase-change coatings as wax beads coated in plastic. When the wax inside the beads is solid, they pull heat from your body, making them feel cool to the touch. Once the wax fully melts, the material loses its cool feeling. We just don't know for sure to what degree this phase change layer might wear over time.

Hi, I'm a hot side sleeper that's closer to 250lbs. I'm considering the soft version of the Aurora. I currently have a Casper bed and after the 4th year of ownership, (and my weight gain since my purchase) I notice my hips hurt a lot more within the last six months. My Casper really seems to sag in the middle right around my hips causing a mis alignment. Should I consider the firm version of this mattress based on my weight with being a side sleeper?
@goodbed
@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi there -- Thanks for your question. Based on your description of your experience with the Casper, I would think that the Soft version of this mattress would have even more of that problem in your case. Even the Medium version is softer than the Casper. This can be great for many side sleepers, but given your weight and your experience on the Casper, I would worry it will be too soft for you. So yes, based on the information you provided, I would think that the Firm would be the best option in your case. I hope that's helpful.

My husband and I are in the market for a split king adjustable bed. We went to a mattress store that tested you on what was your best mattress fit. I fell in the soft mattress range, my husband in the medium. With that said and with our price range we are looking at Tempurpedic Pro Adapt. But then I found Brooklyn Aurora. I want the cooling effect but TP Breeze is priced too high. From watching the video it sounds like with BB Aurora we should move up to medium for me and firm for him. Is that correct?
@goodbed
@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi Robin -- Thanks for your question. I should first clarify the model you are using as a base of comparison. Assuming you were looking at the ProAdapt Medium, that model is also a Medium on our softness spectrum (slightly firmer than the Aurora Medium). If you were talking about the ProAdapt Soft, that model is a Medium-Soft on our softness spectrum (like the Aurora Medium). In general though, you are understanding this video correctly that the Aurora Medium is a bit softer than the ProAdapt Medium, so you should factor that into which comfort levels you select. The only other thing I'd note is that the biggest difference between the Aurora and the ProAdapt is that the ProAdapt has a lot of that slow-melting memory feel whereas the Aurora has only 1 inch of memory foam way down in the mattress, so has very little of that type of feel. This is not a "better or worse" thing -- strictly a matter of personal preference -- so I just wanted to make sure you were aware of this distinction. I hope that's helpful.

I’m trying to decide between the BB Aurora Soft or the Tempur-Pedic LuxeAdapt Soft. It’s difficult to choose having tried one (Tempur) and not the other. I really liked the comfort and feel of the LuxeAdapt Soft. It felt supportive of my spine while relieving pain/pressure on my side. Does the BB Aurora have the same level of support? Also, does the LuxeAdapt sleep much warmer than the Aurora? I appreciate your insights and recommendations!
@goodbed
@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi Jasmina -- Thanks for your question. If you're looking for the closest in feel to the LuxeAdapt Soft, I would go with the Medium version of the Aurora, not the Soft. We rate both of these as a Medium-Soft on our softness spectrum. In terms of other 'feel' characteristics, perhaps the biggest differences are that the Aurora has much less of that 'slow-melting memory feel' than the LuxeAdapt does, as well as much more bounce (the LuxeAdapt has literally none). All that said, note that softness, memory feel, and bounce are all preference-based characteristics, so there is no absolute better or worse to any of these -- just a question of which is the best fit for your personal needs and preferences. Re: temperature, it's very hard to quantify "by how much," but I would certainly say that the design and features of the Aurora are more specifically designed to keep you cool than those of the LuxeAdapt line. I hope that's helpful.

@goodbed
@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi Rich. In our evaluations, we felt that the Brooklyn Signature mattress (which also comes in a soft) had a somewhat similar feel, but it costs less. The Signature Soft probably won't feel quite as soft as the Aurora Soft, nor does it have the same cooling features as the Aurora, but nonetheless we felt it was the better value between the two based on performance and materials quality. I hope that's helpful.

@goodbed

We have not compared those two directly, but one difference is obvious -- Tempur-Pedic is known for their memory foam, and that slow "sinking into the bed" feeling. The Brooklyn Aurora contains only one inch of memory foam - and it's three layers down. So you don't get any of that 'melting' feeling. Hope that's helpful!

Hi there -- Thanks for your question. We classify the Aurora Medium as a "Medium-Soft" on our spectrum. What any given company considers "medium" can vary quite a bit from brand to brand, but for context the Aurora Medium is definitely on the softer end relative to most "medium" versions that we've reviewed from other brands (which more often tend to come out as either a Medium or Medium-Firm on our spectrum). In terms of the Aurora Soft, we classify that one as a "Soft" on our spectrum (ie, one notch softer than Medium-Soft). In terms of your desired amount of hug / sink, be sure to check out the section at 8:22 in this video to see how the Aurora Medium performs on this front. I hope that's helpful.

Thanks so much for the response. While we are on the subject, I have been looking at this mattress and the Brentwood Home Oceano. When it comes to softness, would you classify the Oceano as soft, or as plush feeling with some sinkage? I have actually broke down my search between this aurora, Oceano, and Winkbed soft. I'm really looking for a hybrid with some hugging and contouring without feeling like I'm sinking into the mattress or laying on a piece of plywood. Thanks so much.

Hi there -- Thanks for your question. I'm afraid this product line is still rather new, so there is not a lot of empirical data on how well it will hold up over time. That said, looking at the ratings that this line has received so far, I can see that whether people liked the mattress or not, most people reported its condition as "Like new," which indicates that it doesn't seem to have an issue with quick sagging like many other brands. www.goodbed.com/mattress-line/brooklyn-bedding-aurora/ratings/ I hope that's helpful.

YYYYYYYYES! I have been waiting for this GoodBed review! This mattress is one of my top contenders for what to try next. My biggest concern is if this mattress would provide proper pressure relief. I have chronic neck, shoulder and back pain, so I have been looking at mattresses with memory foam. Like most plus-size individuals, I'm also an extremely hot sleeper, which is why this mattress makes me salivate a little. Lol. I'm 5'2", 215lbs, and a side and back sleeper with prefers a firmer feel. The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora firm was rated a 9.2 match on your quiz. I was also matched/scored highly with: Sapira Winkbeds luxury firm/plus Novosbed firm Nest Alexander Signature Series/Hybrid luxury firm Nest Latex hybrid Avocado with/without the pillowtop Big Fig Amerisleep AS2 MUSE firm My favorite mattresses in stores are Tempur-pedic's Contour Elite Breeze & ProAdapt Firm, Beautyrest Black Aubrie (memory foam/firm), and the Stearns & Foster Luxe Estate hybrid firm, but those are way of budget. Obviously, some of the beds I'm paired with don't have a memory foam feel, which I'm okay with as long they still provide excellent pressure relief. Any advice/further recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

@goodbed 5 лет назад
Hi Karayah -- Definitely watch the video. We tested the Medium version, but had some questions about the support for our 200 lb tester - there is a Firm version that would likely be a better fit. We did find pressure relief with the Aurora to be very good. That top layer of TitanFlex foam is meant to have a lot of the properties of latex. And there are lots of cooling features on the mattress. With all of these online mattresses, the trial policy is really helpful because you can actually try it out for 120 nights and see how it works for you.

How does this compare to cooling of tempur pedic luxe breeze?
@goodbed
@goodbed 3 года назад
Hi Victor. In our opinion, all phase-change materials, gels, etc -- all of those features added to a foam or fabric intended to make it feel cooler -- is going to be a subtle effect. If you have a known issue of sleeping hot, the TYPE of mattress, in our view, is a more important consideration. We recommend looking at a hybrid mattress -- one with springs on the bottom -- which will provide more airflow. The Aurora bed here is a hybrid -- so by default, we would rate it as a "cooler" feeling mattress just because of that. The Tempur-Pedic Breeze is an all-foam mattress, except for one model in the line that's specifically a hybrid. Hope that's helpful!

If he did 7:59 on an old inner spring matress that bowling ball would have rolled into his spine.
@goodbed
@goodbed 4 года назад
Ha, that's an astute observation, and is 100% correct! For anyone that wants to nerd out a bit, there are two reasons for that: 1) The old school innerspring design you're envisioning would have used a connected coil unit, meaning a coil design in which all the coils are tied together. This has an advantage insofar as the strength of any one coil is reinforced by the coils around it. But it has some disadvantages as well, one of which is that when you lie down on the mattress, compressing the coils directly under you also pulls down coils that are not directly under you, which is what would create the bowl effect that would bring the bowling ball down toward the sleeper. (Side note: This same dynamic is what makes connected coil units worse for motion isolation.) 2) Old school innerspring mattresses tended to use much less foam on top of the coils. Because foam has a higher point elasticity than a connected coil unit, the ball would sink into the foam a bit more, making it less likely to roll on such a surface. Also, compressing the foam underneath the sleeper would not affect the foam underneath the ball, or between the ball and the sleeper. So, having foam on top of the coils would partially offset some of the dynamics described above. Thanks for your comment!
