One of the most underrated Disney movies ever made honestly, the story, the music, the scenery and the message. It's just an absolute masterpiece.

Brother Bear deserves more love, honestly. It has the sort of grand, epic story similar to The Lion King and Tarzan in a few ways but on its own, this Disney film is really something special for what the story is and what it brings to the audience with its message. In my opinion, Brother Bear is a great animated film!

The look of sadness and disappointment on Sitka's face when he appears to Kenai always gets to me, man.

Some facts about the movie and history overall: - Brother Bear takes place in Alaska. - Woolly Mammoths disappeared around 4,000 years ago. - Brother Bear is set around 10,000 years ago at the very end of our last ice age. - In the original story, it was intended to be a father-son centered movie, in which the son, Kenai, turned into a bear. - Koda (at the time he was named Griz) was supposed to be an old blind bear with three daughters who encountered Kenai soon after he transformed, making him understand his biological father’s point of view by comparing his own relationship with Koda, similar to the story we know today, but with a different relationship type. - The aspect ratio of the movie is different between when Kenai is a human and a bear. It signifies a difference in perspective in the character while providing the audience with a difference in feeling without any overt changes.

The part where Kota and his spirit mom hug for the last time got me. The mother bear reminds me so much of my mom. It broke me heart... 😭💔

We natives believe that bears are one of the most loving they’ll risk their life for their cubs,feed them and keep them tell adulthood ♥️

I didn't grow up on a reservation, but as an American Native I have a lot of friends on a Lakota reservation a few states away that I visit every summer to ride horses and go to powwows and stuff like that. My friends gave me the name Mahto Chinchalawin, in Lakota it means "Little she-bear". I eat a lot, sleep a lot, have brown skin, eyes, and hair, and one of my favorite animals is a Bear, besides the horse. I'm very touchy and give all the bear hugs lol Years later and the name stuck. As a baby, this movie and Spirit have always had a place in my heart. "fun fact, in the movie spirit, The native American named Little creek is from the Lakota tribe, the same tribe as me"

The part where he tells Koda the story is so unbelievably heartbreaking.

"Disney, stop, leave me alone!"... and then keep coming back for more. Aren't we masochists XD Great reaction!

As someone from Alaska this movie holds a special place in my heart. Most of the characters share names with real places in AK like Nanana(a river), Kenai(peninsula), Denahi/Denali (also known as Mt. Mckinley) and Sitka( an island near the state capital). Koda is an exception, although one can argue it is very similar to Kodiak, where the Kodiak bear (a type of Grizzly Bear) are from. Then obviously the story and soundtrack are phenomenal, so I will always praise this movie

It’s not Kenai’s fault nor is it the bears they were both simply doing what they thought best. The bear was protecting the young and Kenai was angry just like any human would be in the situation. Not to mention had the middle brother (can’t remember his name) had he not been so antagonistic towards Kenai Kenai likely wouldn’t have gone after the bear to prove himself in the first place. Not that the middle brother is to blame either but the series of events that unfolded could have been avoid by little things. Snowball rolling down hill and all that

Brother Bear is SO underrated! It’s so sweet and the music is killer 🐻 If you ever want to learn more about bear gatherings like this, Katmai National Reserve in Alaska is home to one of the biggest salmon run gatherings of brown bears in North America and they have a wonderful team of researchers who study the bears and have live cams set up along the Brooks River. It is so incredibly cool to see normally solitary animals come together in (relative) peace to fish and fatten up before hibernation season.

This movie is a masterpiece! It's impossible not to cry watching it, so incredible. When I started studying about North American Shamanism, this film became even more special to me because many things made even more sense. It's a movie I carry in my heart with love. And I highly recomended you to watch RIO. I live in Brazil and i'd love to see your reaction to a movie that takes place in Brazilian lands!

Brother Bear was a comfort movie I would pop on when I was a kid. Cute movie and story…quite underrated!🙌🏾👏🏾

The first song was indeed the great Tina Turner 😄 the rest is Phil Collins, any movie with him in the soundtrack is a certified classic.

The movie is set around 10,000 years ago at the latest at the very end of the ice age, as evidenced by the presence of Wooly Mammoths, and the mention of other fauna such as the Sabretooth Tiger . That’s one reason mammoths went extinct we natives needed food and fur and woolly mammoths were one of the biggest supplies of both

When I just surprise and didn’t notice it that Brother Bear was nominated for a Oscar for best animated feature alongside The Triples of Belleville, but lost to Pixar’s Finding Nemo respectfully. The Song from Brother Bear, “Take a look through my eyes”, was supposed to be nominated for original song in 2004 Oscars, but sadly it didn’t make it so that’s sucks.

I love this movie, SO underrated, I never hear anyone talking about it. I watched it super young and I remember it made a huge difference with how I viewed nature. The end always makes me sob LOL and the northern lights being part of a spiritual realm is such a beautiful visual. Great reaction, thank you! OHE MY GOD I DIDN'T THINK I'D FIND ANY REACTIONS TO BROTHER BEAR WHEN I SEARCHED IT! God, this is my favorite Disney movie of all time and the transformation sequence is one of my favorite pieces of both animation and music. I' so glad to have found a reaction to it, this movie is painfully underrated. There was a thing at Disney where you cud be givin your own Totem, but I never got to go. T_T

There is a sequel called 'Brother Bear 2' that's really good. You really should watch it.

The early to mid 2000's had a lot of underrated Disney movies, as a kid I loved this and even watching this reaction brought back those feelings from when I watched it back then.

One of my all time favourite movies. The story is so emotive and beautiful it never fails to make me cry. The characters are so loveable and I love the whole historical setting of the Native Americas (I hope that’s correct). The music is also so memorable to me. I personally love this movie because I find it such a comforting way to deal with death and moving on, the fact Sitka is always there in spirit form or as an Eagle and then when Koda gets to say bye to his mum it really comforts me and helped me especially when I lost my grandma as a child. All in all a beautiful movie and a wonderful story. :)

This is my favorite Disney movie ever! Came out in the year I was born, I've watched since I was little, a lot things I do being the older sister come from this movie, and I always cry watching 😆😆 I really love this movie and the second one

this has always been one of my fav disney movies, i used to watch it almost everyday when i was a child! the message of this story is so beautiful imo, it deserves more love ❤️‍🩹

Set around the end of the ice age in Alaska and Kenai and his brothers are Alaskan natives. They also have names that will later be locations in Alaska (Denahi becomes Denali, Sitka is a port city, and the Kenai peninsula in the south). So beautiful and such a beautiful look at how wild the landscape and wildlife were/still are and the native presence in Alaska and how they live in such harmony with the wilderness around them. And Phil Collins slaps. Also JV predicting the whole movie hahaha

I love Brother Bear! ❤️ If you liked this prehistoric setting, you might want to check out the animated movie Ice Age. It also has mammoths, saber tooth tigers, and humans, and it’s an old heartwarming and comedic classic.

This is my favourite movie, not just from Disney but just in general

there is a deleted scene - you can find it on youtube - where you get to actually hear kenai telling koda the story, without the phil collins song over the top. i guess they changed it partway through development because it felt a little too dark. ALSO, brother bear 2 is also really fun imo, i like that movie a lot and id love to see a reaction to it!

Brother bear is one of the most underrated Disney movies!

this movie gets about a tenth of the attention it deserves.

First of all, it was actually Mark Mancina, who composed the score for this film. He also collaborated with Phil Collins for Tarzan, then with Lin Manuel Miranda for Moana. Still, the score for Brother Bear can have a Hans Zimmer vibe at times. Anyway, fun fact, 2003’s Brother Bear was the third, and final film to be made primarily at the former animation studio in Orlando, Florida (1998’s Mulan, and 2002’s Lilo & Stitch were also made primarily at that studio). Anyway, I did like how in this film, it was one of the rare to few times where we had a brother like relationship, instead of a romantic one for once. Yes, I’ll admit that I’m a sucker for romantic love stories. Still, I was fine with Disney taking a break from that sort of deal with films like this, Treasure Planet, Emperor’s New Groove, and films like those. I will say, though, that I felt like the non-romantic storyline seemed to work best for films like Treasure Planet, and Brother Bear. Anyway, while I enjoyed this film, I will also admit that I felt like the story may have felt a little too fast paced to the point where side characters like the moose, or Tug don’t seem to be as memorable, and, therefore, don’t seem to leave as big of an impact as say the dwarves from Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs, the side characters in Atlantis: The Lost Empire, or films like those, you know? I will also say that the middle could have been as strong as the beginning, and end of this film. Yes, we had some funny moments, and the middle was fairly engaging. Still, it probably could have been a little better. Overall, I will still say that I liked how we had a somewhat more of a mature story from Disney that didn’t seem to be as present since films like Pocahontas, or The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, or films like those, you know? Well, thanks for reviewing this film. I’m glad you enjoyed it. By the way, I do have a few suggestions for you on this channel: The Iron Giant (1999), Quest For Camelot (1998), The Road To El Dorado (2000), Dinosaur (2000), and Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001). Anyway, I hope you’ll at least take those films into consideration for this channel. Thanks! By the way, I know Quest For Camelot has a low rating just like Brother Bear. This film has stuck with me since I was young and is so underatted by Disney. It has a great message and story about self-discovery with Keni realising his arrigance made things worse, brotherhood through the eyes of Keni, Sitka, Denai @ Koda to the moose brothers Rutt and tuke, and love. Themes which shouldent go unoticed. Plus Phill Collins is the the roght man to write underated Disney movie soundtracks.

This story is so insanely good, teaching love and forgiveness, that there is no black and white, that things can be complicated. Absolutely phenomenal. There aren't many movies with a message as complex and important as this.

You didn't catch the way that the aspect ratio changed when Bear-Kenai opened his eyes for the first time (and the brighter color palate). Magical in the theatres, comparable to the Technicolor moment in The Wizard of Oz.

I think this movie takes place in ancient Alaska. The main character Kinai is from one of the tribes native to the area.

There was a special scene at the very very end where Kota said no salmon were harmed in the making of this movie

Man I used to watch this movie obsessively when I was a kid. Re-watched for the first time in maybe 16 years yesterday, cried multiple times, and can't quite understand why it gets hardly any love. Was nice to watch another grown man cry over this. I wish the same amount of effort had gone into the sequel, and that Jaoquin Pheonix had stuck around for it. The sequel is still nice, but nowhere near the masterpiece this was. I think it's a timeless movie. Also, weird little side note: I remember thinking as a kid that the story wasn't original (albeit very well executed), yet in my adult form, can't think of much else that did the whole "man gets turned into the thing he hates, only to learn the hardships of that thing and come to see things their way" story. Anybody else remember feeling that way? Or have anything they can reference as similar transformation stories?

Oddly enough there are animals that get along like that. You can Google about animals taking care of orphaned baby animals of different species. I remember one in particular a dog was taking care of orphaned kittens

What other movie did someone get turned into a Baer?: A: Brave! That's the only other one I know, hehe. I do wonder if the elder/shaman and the witch from Brave might be related, or possibly know each other. Since both are involved in people turning into bears. I loved your reaction! It always gets me when it comes to the point where we find out about Koda's mother.

Had one of the animators who worked on this as my animation professor in college. He was the animator for Koda. Also voiced the crazy Ukrainian bear. What an honor to have someone who worked on so many classic films as an instructor. Edit. Mammoths are recent. They were around when the great pyramids were made.

IDK if anyone remembers but a long time again there was live action movie of a prince who got cursed to be a polar bear by day and human at night by a witch and he can't let anyone see his human form(I cant remember her reason). The story goes on to bring in a girl who the bear choose. It kills me that I can't remember the title

Denahi's totem was the Wolf of Wisdom in case you're wondering. And that one scene where Denahi gets bitten on the butt always makes me laugh, almost as much as Kronk pulling the wrong lever

All songs were written by Phil Collins. He along with Mark Mancina composed the score. They also worked together on Tarzan, where Collins wrote and performed the songs with Mancina composing the score. Hans Zimmer did compose the score for Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, but all songs were written and performed by Bryan Adams.

Definitely need to watch the 2nd one. 😊❤️

Brother Bear is a classic movie to me because there's a lesson to be learned here. Kenai does something horrible and is turned into a bear by his brother Sitka. But when Kenai meets a young cub named Koda.. he suddenly comes face to face with what he did. And he soon comes to realize that his actions were responsible for the death of Koda's mother. Now Kenai must find a way to make up for what he's done but finds that's a little more complicated than he might realize.

Bear fathers dont usually stick around. The sole responsibility falls to the mother. If you ever see an adult bear with cubs, the adult is almost always female.
