the scene where Ego tastes the ratatouille and is transported back to his childhood and his mother's comfort food, has always been a profound one to me. If you look closely, he goes from being grey skinned, like the grim reaper, to having color after that experience. The food transformed him back to a human in a sense. still chokes me up some to this day.

I will always love that Anton Ego is so much happier at the end of the film. He looks less thin and his cheeks are much rounder. He's been enjoying himself by being a regular at the new restaurant to see Colette, Linguini and Remy.

That first apartment was probably a gift from Chef Gusteau to Linguini's mom in a romantic sense. There's an understory to that relationship that probably really resulted in both the Chef's and mother's death and the love probably the reason for the drop in quality in food due to split in passion focus resulting in Anton Ego's critical rating.

ego is one of the best characters of the movies imo! he’s not a villain, he’s just severe but he’s good doing his job. he didn’t try to put them down, he has always been honest with his opinion, at first he just didn’t share gusteau’s idea of cooking but then he changed his point of view when he met remy and that showed how professional he is. i love the part when he eats the ratatouille and has the flashback

5:00 Chef Skinner is voiced by the late Sir Ian Holm. The actor for Bilbo Baggins from the LOTR trilogy films and old Bilbo in the Hobbit films. I always loved hearing his voice as Skinner in this film because I'm so used to seeing him as the Hobbit we all love and enjoy seeing onscreen that when I discovered he was in a sense, the menacing and strict chef in charge of Gusteau's, I loved that range of voice-acting.

The house from Egos childhood is said to be the house from the beginning. And that old lady was Egos mother. Which explains why Ego was brought back to his mother's cooking as a kid. And because Remy used her stuff to cook and learned from her. And I love how the movie has a message that everyone has a gift and has a purpose. Linguini's wasn't cooking, but he was good with skating and I love how it came back at the end. That even he had a place at the restaurant.

Rats are highly misunderstood animals. They are really intelligent and social. They are also very clean, they even clean themselves more often than cats. They all have their own little characters - just like other animals we share our homes with. Rats are simply great !!

As a french girl, I'm happy to know you liked it. I don't know where you live but it's totally normal if you hadn't see ratatouille on a menu because it's a french dish and you can only taste it in France or in a french restaurant in other country. But normally, it's not the typical dish you can see in gastronomic restaurants (it's why Colette called it " a peasant dish "). About Ego's flash-back because of the ratatouille, in France, we called that " a Proust madeleine " who design sometimes who make you remember your childhood in reference of the french writer Marcel Proust who mentioned the madeleines' odor as a childhood memory in one of his books. Fun fact : in rhe french, Colette is voiced by Camille the singer of the song you can hear during the movie (the one who starts when the cooks celebrate the fact Linguini is Gusteau's son)

This movie just gives a bit of reality as a message. Some pepole are just simply not made for what they meant to be (Linguini son of a famous chef), some others can get to it by their own effort and work ( Colette end up being a good chef ), and some others are just talented for what they do and be the best just because they were born for that (Remy) no matter where they come from or how they look " a rat". That's why sometimes people get frustrated looking for something probably they are just not capable of. And those who say you can do "everything" if you believe or always follow your dreams is just smth that doesn't happen at all. This is one of the best pixar movies apart from nostalgic :) one of my animated favourites as well.

28:28 "He should have written it all down." Every single writer or author when they wake up from having a good dream. Oh yeah, that was definitely one of the most obvious solutions that made me dislike Linguini a bit more. Everyone always talks about how Ego is very menacing and villain-like but as a critic, he's basically being paid a lot of money to criticize and review restaurants or the chefs that are rising to fame. If anything, when Ego steps in to announce he's paying Gusteau's a visit, he's basically the obstacle coming in to check Linguini's ego which seems to be letting the fame go to his head. The irony, Anton Ego coming in to play after Linguini lets his own ego expand rapidly upon his newly discovered fame. Linguini literally states that when Ego is coming, he needs to focus. Sure... he's decided to focus after quite literally abandoning his partner in rage outside and goes in to basically calm down and accomplish next to nothing. I still enjoy the movie and the story, but that one scene makes me dislike Linguini's personality.

@hellowhat890

@@wwoods66 Im only going to cut him slack because yes, he did in fact apologize and admit the truth in front of his coworkers and Remy. I didnt say he was a bad character. The circumstances that happened because they all acted impulsively is what drives the movie along nicely and in an entertaining fashion. Also, just one small correction... This is not his first job. Linguini has stated to Remy at the river that he's lost many jobs. Gusteaus was his last option he needed to survive after his mother Renata passed away

Skinner is voiced by late Sir Ian Holm, best known for playing old Bilbo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Battle of Five Armies and Ash in Alien. He passed away in 2020 from complications from Parkinson's at the age of 88. The Parkinson's prevented him from traveling to New Zeeland for the Hobbit movies so Peter Jackson arraged for filming Holm's scenes at Pinewood Studios in London (same with Sir Christopher Lee whose high age and health problem prevented him to travel as well).
