It occurs to me that as a kid, I never quite understood the disability narrative portrayed, both through Dory and through Nemo himself. Really deep stuff!

The explanation for the turtles being stoner surfer dudes is that sea turtles actually eat jellyfish for fun in real life since it has the same effect on them as marijuana does for humans, hence the reason that Crash found Dory and Marlon at the group of jellyfish, because the turtles were already there to feed

Dory is the correct way to portray a character with a disability.

As a parent you are correct. Trying to always protect can greatly reduce their self esteem. I remember watching my 8 month old pulled himself to a standing position holding the couch. Then he looked down and got scared and wanted me to help him. I didn't. He let go landed on his bottom he was all ready to scream and then stopped, looked back up then gave me one of the biggest smiles.

As scary as Bruce looks, he’s actually very friendly.😊🦈 That one scene where he smells dory’s blood, those were his natural hunting instincts.

Even today, when Marlin tells all the fish to swim down, I still get chills, shouting, "Swim down! Keep swimming! Keep swimming!" I love this movie!

Can we talk about how adorable your cat is. I love it when your cat comes to see what your up too, he or she is so curious & adorable.

This is probably one of the only family movies that actually has a lesson that's more for the parents than the kids. Parenthood can be like a balancing act there are times when you do have to protect them but also times when you have to let them do things on their own.

Watching those movies as an adult actually hits different than watching them as a child - and watching them as a parent is even more intense sometimes.

Been excitingly waiting for this solely because of the way you talk about your children.

hello from australia! fun fact: it took me years to realize this movie was so australian. when i was a kid i never noticed the accents or even that it took place in sydney, because in my mind that was just how normal people sounded, and sydney was just a place i knew the name of. mostly i was focused on how funny the seagulls were, cause, yknow, i was a kid. great vid!

I didn't watch Finding Nemo on the big screen, but I can imagine the utter terror I would have felt seeing that first shot of Bruce.😱

Nemo and Marlin’s journey started on the Great Barrier Reef and took them to Sydney, which is around 1,500 miles or 2,414 kilometres. Also this is from Sydney to Cairns (gateway to the GBR) not as the fish swims lol 🙂🙂

One of the MOST nostalgic movies to me, this movie actually oppened the doors for Under Sea animations, after Finding Nemo a lot of filmes under the sea came out... even tho a 2000s movie, the CGI is amazing

This is my therapy film. My earliest memory of watching it was when I had chicken pox at age 5 and now I often come back to it when I feel ill, sad or simply nostalgic. It never fails to heal me 💙☺️

Finding Nemo is one of if not the greatest film for new parents to watch and learn

Sea turtle diet ranges based on species or age. They’ll eat sea grass, seaweed, fish, sponges, sea cucumbers, and jellyfish, among more things I’m sure. Also just a couple more things, the French crustacean in the tank is a cleaner shrimp, an animal that eats parasites off of fish, and the anglerfish would likely be female as the females are larger, have the huge infamous teeth, and the lights on their head. Males are much smaller. About whales, they don’t actually spout water, but warm air from their blowholes. The hairy stuff in their mouth is baleen, which is used to filter out water and keep prey like krill and small fish trapped in its mouth as the water drains through. If you can’t tell I’m quite an animal enthusiast.

Why are people shocked when something tragic happens in a kids' movie? All kids movies are like that and have been for decades. Kids always cope. In fact, it's important for teaching them how to emotionally deal with things like grief. Honestly, adults are the ones that always seem fragile about this!

This movie scared the pants off me when I was a kid (I think it’s responsible for both my love of the beach and my fear of the ocean). Legit I thought you might not do this one oh my GOD I’m glad you did because it’s one of the best movies of all time.

Fun crazy fact about this movie. Rendering a frame for "Finding Nemo" took up to four days because of the complexity of the underwater environment, with sunlight coming through the water and hitting fish scales.

Fun fact Nigel the pelican is voiced by Geoffrey Rush who was in "The King's Speech" as Lionel Logue the speech therapist and in the franchise "Pirates of the Caribbean" as Captain Barbossa.

I never realised how long it took me. But the guy who plays Nigel is Geoffrey Rush; Captain Barbossa. And if that weren't enough, Gill's played by William defoe: Green Goblin!!

My son watched this a couple years after it came out he was 3 and the shark part always scared him, but he'd always want to watch it again.

This movie was also I. Theaters. No had seen water animation like this before. I was only 8 but saw it twice in theaters…because my dad who was older and in his 50s loved it so much he took us twice. He loved how gorgeous it was and how there was finally a kids movie about dads. Maybe why it made so much money? Adults loved it as much as kids

when my son was a toddler, I don't know how many times we watched this on DVD with him sitting on my lap. Disney then put the show on ice and the skaters were fantastic, and for some reason, it seemed more emotional with the live players.

There's a lot of factors when it comes to why one movie makes a lot of money and another doesn't. Finding Nemo was made by PIXAR who has had a very clean track record of making top tier movies (with the exceptions of the Cars sequels which were unliked and The Good Dinosaur actually bombed hard) and they are backed by world famous Disney. People go to Pixar because they know what to expect and know it will be a good time investment. The Iron Giant was made by Warner Brother and they didn't really care to advertise it and people were so-so when it came to trusting Warner Brothers to make something that was actually Family Friendly AND worth parent's time. The timing of the release is important too. Studios release what they think are the best family movies at Christmas time, bonus points if it has snow in it. They release more experimental movies in other seasons, they usually have an A and B film/animator crew. However Finding Nemo did get a spring release as it fits the more nature and new life vibe of the season, The Incredibles (By the Maker of The Iron Giant) got the Christmas release the next year. Another factor is what movies are near the release. 2003 didn't have really any kid movies. 1999 had Toy Story 2, Tarzan, Stewart Little, and Freakin' STAR WARS!

Also, Willem Dafoe (aka Green Goblin) played Gill!

In terms of the box office, it's often not about how good the movie is - it's about how many theaters the film played in, how much was spent on the marketing, how much anticipation and buildup there was for the film, the loyalty of a fan base - it's largely down to stuff like that.

The jellyfish epidemic was going crazy when I was overseas and went swimming in the Mediterranean sea. Everyday, at 1 pm, hordes of these numbing blue jellyfish would wash up near the shore. And the worst part was that they released some of their toxins in the water, so even if you hadnt touched one, it still hurt. I'm not sure if it's still going right now, but it was up until September

What's up, Aussie here! We just saw a film of these fish travelling from the Great Barrier Reef to Sydney, 1766km away. And back again! That's a lot of exercise for such tiny fish!

This brought back the joy and excitement with every plot turn the first time I watched it. It was a magical experience getting to see it for the first time again through your eyes. Loving so much incorporating parenting and the impact realisations due to stories can make on parenting styles and awareness. Any family is better with this kind of learning from stories and self awareness. Oooh Meet the Robinsons is a great one for family and self acceptance.

Crush is voiced the director himself Andrew Stanton (who also voices one of the fireflies in A Bug's Life and Zurg in Toy Story 2) while Squirt is voiced by Nicholas Bird, the son of Brad Bird, the director of The Incredibles, Ratatouille and Incredibles 2.

I’m glad that you are watching this. This is one of the Pixar movies that is very dear to me. I used to watch it a lot when I was little and the “Beyond the sea” song was something I sang very much when I was little and that I still hum to this day.

Me: So I just watched this film where a serial killer brutally murders a mother and almost all of her children while her husband watches, leaving only one child alive. The father raises his only remaining son, who as a result of the killer’s attack is born with a physical impairment. One day, the son is taken from his father and kept as a prisoner in a foreign land. The father must travel far from home to find him and can only rely on the aid of a mentally-handicapped woman for help. Friend: uhhhhhh Friend: What was it called? Me: Finding Nemo

Nemos mom would have survived if she had listened to her husband. Those things they live in are effectively electric force fields.

Australian here 😁 I loved this movie as a kid because they finally included Australia in something and the accents were familiar to me 😂you have to come to Australia at least once in your life.

On a completely different note: The Little Mermaid peaked my curiosity about life under the sea, but after seeing this movie in Spring 2003, I actually went to Maui, Hawaii and did my first Discover SCUBA diving class! I hope to one day go to to Australia and dive the Great Barrier Reef, where Finding Nemo takes place!!

The creators of Finding Nemo had to make a public announcement on the "All drains lead to the ocean" as children all over the world were flushing their fish down the toilet expecting them to go free.

The tradition of Disney to use single parents is because Walt Disney's own mother died in a gas accident in a house he bought for her. So for a long while you saw no mothers. However later it became more of a shortcut to avoid creating a character you don't have a place for (this is done with a lot of Disney Channel shows).

Sydney, Australia - Born and Raised. This is one of Pixars best films. So fun and emotional. Always makes me cry. A true classic.Yeah Australia is a beautiful country. Not as dangerous as foreigners believe though. I recommend visiting Sydney Harbour, the Great Barrier Reef and Uluru as well as a bunch of our beaches.

Greetings from Melbourne, Australia, the most livable city in the world. Yes, that beautiful white curved building is the Sydney Opera House; it's actually an art centre with an Opera theatre, a Concert Hall, 3 theatres, restaurants, bars and more.

In the opening scene in Moana; you can spot Crush (Dude) and Squirt during the Ocean opening the way for her to find shells.....

The whale scene was the most terrifying experience of my childhood! But it made me fall in love with David Attenborough’s documentaries.

You know whats really sad? Nigel isn't aware that Nemo is still alive by the end of the movie. He leaves Marlon on a depressing note feeling guilty thinking Nemo's dead

TOP tier movie man! One of the best ever. This movie was more for parents than it was for kids

Australia here 👋 if you’re gonna fly from America, try to break up the trip with a stop in Hawaii, and if at all possible, splurge for first class. It can be an 18hr flight from the US to the east coast of Australia and it is HELL.

It's tough to want to do everything to protect your kids and have to stay yourself so you don't coddle them. My middle son is on the spectrum and he struggles so much with everyday things that other kids can do without even thinking. I still remember one time he was climbing a piece of playground equipment instead of just walking up the stairs and my initial instinct was to rush over, take him down, and point him to the stairs. But I forced myself to keep watching. He struggled to pull himself up the ladder since his motor skills were still underdeveloped but he finally made it over the top. And when he did, he gave me the biggest grin. He never would have developed his motor skills if I'd given up and done everything for him so he wouldn't have to struggle. We've had many struggles since then. Speech therapy and learning to hold a spoon properly and learning to add and learning to read. But I can't give up. I know what he's capable of. And despite the pain of watching him put so much effort into something that for most might be so simple... I know he'll come out stronger on the other side because of it. And I just have to let him work his way through.

This is honestly one of my favorite Western animated movies. And I love to mess with people by not naming it, just describing it like a Liam Neeson movie. Then tell them the name. William Defoe playing the most stereotypically William Dafoe character in a kids movie is amazing. And I know these turtles.

Dory made me laugh my ass off throughout the movie only to shatter my heart with that monologue

What I heard is that the iron giant wasn't very well advertised, so on its release it largely flew under the radar. And over time its built up a following and appreciation

Dark theory: • "Nemo" it's a word from Latin.. means nobody... so in reality the movie it's about a parent accepting that he lost all his family. So we see Marlin with the 5 stages of grief: Denial, anger, bargaing, depression and finally (when Nemo goes to a "trip") acceptance. Finding Nemo, then... it's about a father realizing that he's alone and how to move on with his life. •Denial: it's at 8:04 • Anger: 18:16 • Bargaing: when he encounters the whale • Depression: 32:21 • Acceptance: 38:36 • When Marlin finds Dory, he starts the process of forgetting such a traumatic event. It's also a theory that Dory it's another form of "dorma".. that's sleeping or dreaming in italian (I believe). It's just on his dreams that Marlin can start recovering. Crazy, right?

I'm so excited, I love this movie. I don't usually suggest movies because I don't want to overload anyone but Brother Bear is a great movie if you haven't seen it. I'm probably not the first one to suggest it.

As a whale lover, the blowhole thing always got me xD Whales don't swallow water and exhale it. When they eat, they push the water back out of their mouths, and the spiky baleen traps krill, which they swallow. The moisture that comes out of the blowhole is just whatever airborne moisture was in the air/their lungs (we do the same). I had to throw whale facts out there. I couldn't help it.

I loved this whole reaction and it was great fun to watch with you. But I had to laugh at you wiggling your head to swim along with the fish when they were trying to swim downwards. It was endearing lol! Thank you for the reaction!

Another great movie about self discovery is Happy Feet, it has a great message and the soundtrack is amazing!

I saw this film right around the same time I saw "Titanic" from 1997. Both films made me appreciate the ocean.

a cool thing to think about, the jelly fish dont talk in this movie different from all other creatures because tecnically speaking jelly fish dont have brains. They are literally just a clump of cells floating around in the ocean surviving. There is no instinct, its just a completely blank creature floating around
