My moms family has protected her predator brother his whole life. He got a 14 yo pregnant, married her, and then went on to SA his daughters. Then the family cut those girls out when they sent him to jail. It never ceases to anger and amaze me the levels of enabling that exists in families. Some people cannot handle the truth.

One of the most painful things for survivors of sexual abuse is when the family continues to allow the perpetrator around their victim. Your brother’s feelings DO NOT MATTER. Feelings of other family members who may try to keep you in contact with him DO NOT MATTER. Your child’s safety above all else is what matters, nothing else. I promise you, if you let him around you and your children, it will occur again and then you will solely hold the blame for failing for place boundaries on someone you know has a history of abusing children. I have a great amount of disdain for ignorant parents in particular who choose the feelings and pressure of other family members above doing what is right for their children. It’s absolutely disgusting, unacceptable, and unthinkable that you would even question if you should cut him out of your life.

Dumping my abusive, criminal, toxic family; was one of the best, saddest, smartest, cathartic, devastating, hurtful, and courageous things that I have ever done. As I was losing everything I gained myself. I know it sounds super stereotypical how I'm saying it, but it is absolute truth. Once she gets beyond the stage, she will have more grief and go through more turmoil but she will become more anchored in her truth most likely. It's such a shame her brother chose to do this, therefore ending their relationship.

Back in the late 60’s and early 70’s I was a teen. My mom died when I was 12. My father molested me for years. All my relatives knew about this and many neighbors did too. No one helped me. I’m 70 now and this has impacted my entire life. Back then men didn’t get arrested the way they do now. I’m glad the law is so tough on child predators now.

My heart breaks for you. I'm struggling with it too. I'm 62 and my abuse is now 50 years in the past. I thought I was fine. But all of a sudden I cry all the time. My thoughts are locked in the past and I can't get out. Praying for both of us and all those impacted by childhood sexual abuse. God bless.

I’ve tried writing into your show. This call is similar to what I’m going through, only in my case it’s an uncle with special needs. He is mentally 8-10 years old, but has molested a five year old girl in the family. It was all kept hush hush by the family for years. I had no idea about it until my mother let it slip recently. I have a five year old and a newborn. There is tension in my family now. I don’t trust the ones that kept this a secret. I don’t want the uncle around my children. I’m putting so much distance between me and family right now because I don’t know how to handle this. Because the uncle is special needs, family isn’t taking it seriously.

I think distancing yourself and your kids from people you can't trust to keep your kids safe is absolutely headed in the right direction of handling it well. Thank you for protecting your own kids. The girl that was abused doesn't feel any less violated because the uncle has special needs. She will be impacted by what he did for the rest of her life. He needs to never be allowed around children again. If you have other family members with kids, they need to know what the uncle did so it never happens to their kids. What a horrible situation.

Being special needs is never an excuse to molest a child. Ultimately the child has to come before any adult of any circumstance. The safety and well-being of children should always take precedence over an adult inconvenience, feelings, or freedom. I don't care why the child was victimized by who or how, but the fact that it happened is enough for me. Stay away from him, and how he is punished just up to the law. I don't know who failed him and did it teach him about sexual boundaries, but it was ultimately up to his caregivers to enforce those rules and make sure that they were planned out. If he was not mentally safe or stable enough to be around children, he never should have been. This is really difficult and I hate that you're going through this but keep your kids safe first and foremost always. Good luck to you.

@E I read your comment several times. My response is appropriate, in terms of my position. You said it's "shockingly hard" to cut ties, while I feel strongly that it isn't or shouldn't be, depending on the dumper's characteristics. It sure wasn't hard in my own personal situation. Everyone is different, however, so we can disagree but still be on the same path.

I wonder if the caller’s mother/family will justify the brother’s actions because of his drug use. There was some inherent behavior within him that the drugs simply allowed the ‘filter’ to drop. Yeah, keep your children away from him. He’s most likely got to register as a sex offender, unless that was dropped in a plea agreement.

I don't have conversations when it comes to my child's safety. What I says goes. There is no discussion or back and forth. If you aren't okay with it, you don't have to be part of our lives...period. I drew a boundary with my family, and it's been 2.5 since they've seen or talked to me. I do not negotiate when it comes to my child's safety or wellbeing.

I do not understand people who still stand by pedos that get caught online blaming them getting caught on how they got caught (like her family)-and completely ignoring what they got caught doing. Even if it wasn’t actually a child they were messaging-they thought it was a child and said the things they said and most of the time they send the pics they send -not because anyone made them. They were caught doing what they were already doing, and would’ve been doing in that case, to an actual child. It doesn’t matter if the child he thought he was sending s*xually explicit messages to is actually an adult on the other side or not -he believed that was a child and did it anyway. Doesn’t matter how they get caught, because thank God they do get caught. Messaging leads to meeting up and going a lot further than talking and pictures often and these monsters need to be stopped before they even get the chance to permanently ruin a child’s life. Quit making excuses for loved ones who get caught! I feel so bad for what she’s going through and the loss of her family members and the loss of what she needed and wanted her family to be. That’s so hard and heartbreaking. Unfortunately it isn’t just the victims and the victims families that get hurt, it’s also the families of the predators. It tears their family apart, too. It’s horrible all the way around.

I have three nieces, three nephews, and I love and protect them every time they are with me. Why not look for a woman your age!? I would just tell him he can't be around your kids until they are adults. To me that feels less final than cutting hime out completely. I read that some huge percent of men have these type of attraction to minors, even 10% of men and 2% of women, so just let it be a lesson to watch your kids more closely no matter where they are and who they're with. It's not just the brother with this problem, it's sadly very common.

She’s not having a hard time figuring out if she should have her brother in her life it’s the grieving process that’s so hard the bouts between anger, rage, sadness, etc and processing that he will no longer be apart of the family or ever see her kids again because the evil that her brother did.

@@stellarocquie7957 Addiction to drugs takes someone that was a person of honor or of high character and destroys that I assume he was a good person before because as she mentioned she is a prosecutor and wanted him to be in her life still. Also he did not have a criminal record at all. What he did was evil and wrong and you still have to grieve the loss of the relationship with your brother you hoped to have.

There are some details left out here which are relevant. What was the age of the minor involved? Was it an undercover cop posing online as an underaged person? Does he have a criminal record involving actual sexual abuse of a child? The age matters because a 25 year old pursuing a 17 year old isn't the same as a 25 year old pursuing an 8 year old. There is a marked difference. Soliciting a child who has not gone through puberty is true pedophilia. It's disturbing to me you would completely write him off based on soliciting a minor who doesn't exist (undercover cop).

HIs parents choosing him is the correct choice because who the F**K else will help her brother!!!! The brother has the same cost of access to services, goods, etc. but he will have to somehow service and afford to take care of himself!!! She seems to not understand the challenges her brother faces with very basic stuff like working a REAL JOB buying and owning a home BECAUSE LOCATION AND NEIGHBORHOOD MATTER!!!

Keep in mind that he propositioned a fake minor and was convicted of that. These sorts of sting operations shouldn't even be legal and aren't in most countries. It's fine if she wants to keep him away from her kids due to his proclivities but let's be real about his crime. Nobody was actually harmed and we don't convict people based on statistics in America.
