This scene is a culmination of Bruce Lee's journey as a martial artist and superstar. Look at all his previous fight scenes in other movies in comparison. He did this scene HIS WAY and it shows. The screen presence, cool factor, charisma and style are off the charts. Groundbreaking.
@outlander234
@outlander234 Год назад
What are you talking about he did it HIS way COMPLETELY in Way of the dragon, from script, directing and fight sequences. He also did all the fighting sequences in both Big Boss and Fist of Fury. He also wasnt directing Enter the dragon. The director did a fantastic job on this one by bringing Bruce in the center of the screen, never been done like this before but has been copied since. I love how all Bruce's movies were directed tbh, each is unique.

@@juleskireeff4563 I think the fights in ETD were more cinematic. The underground battle was definitely his best multi opponent battle next to the final “scram” dojo fight at the end of FOF. Let’s just hope they release Bruce’s Game of death outdoor scenes soon🤌🏿. We’ve had stills for the outdoor scenes for a long time just as we’ve had for the newly released Log scenes

I love the simplicity of this scene. No loud bombastic music, no fast and numerous cuts, just a steady cam, closed in on Lee while enemies appear in frame from various sides and he just deals with them. Good focus on choreo and his badassery. That whole speech at the beginning of the movie with his sifu, how his fists hit on their own, that's all right here.

@@Pizzass1 Yes just yes. Forget acrobatics and other fancy blocking techniques that seem to go on for hours. This was short, concise and electrifying. There may be others who are fancier, more colorful martial artists, but hardly anyone can match the magnetism or vibe of this man. It's the same concept as the Beatles --- sure, they were not the best singers, or musical technicians, there are many others that have been more proficient in those areas --- but they had that indefinable something that made their impact lasting --- they will long be remembered while other, fancier and more technically proficient musicians will be forgotten. Same here with Bruce Lee --- this may "technically" been not the greatest fight scene of all time --- but it was among _Bruce Lee's,_ greatest and therefore, due to that simple fact, it needs to be ranked among the greatest.

Honestly, he's the most copied and influential action director of all time. But what he criticized Easter actors for, of imitating surface technique but not expressing who they are on the inside, holds true for filmmaking as well. People emulate Bruce's editing and acting style, but what they all miss is his storytelling, the character moments, the almost musical way he conducted his fight scenes where even the sound effects are memorable and easily followed. Listen to a Lee fight without looking at the screen-you can practically score it like sheet music. Try listening to the sound effects from any typical martial arts movie past or present-it’s a bunch of non-stop, unintelligible white noise. Lee is the greatest action star the industry has ever seen for so much more than looking like he can kick ass…although that doesn't hurt, lol.

They wouldn't have a hope in hell against him, regardless of whether he trained for an arena or not. His sheer physical ability alone would shine through. Simply the BEST! Mom took me to see this at the theatre when first released, I was 8 and still not sure why she did but I am sure glad she did though. My workout buddy and I use to tell our parents we were going to Hong Kong to make martial arts movies like Bruce our Hero. Lol

Cinematic art at it's highest level. Over 50 years later and nobody's fight scenes have looked this pleasing since! I am one who believes that if Bruce had lived, he would not have been satisfied with most of the Game of Death fight scenes. Most looked half baked by his standards. He would have definitely cleaned them up.

@@randalwung8715 I believe you. You can tell by all the training he did. I’m a brown belt in BJJ and I’ve been in Thailand now for 8 years learning Muay Thai. I definitely can’t beat him if he was alive today. He really knew it and used it. And he learned grappling as well. His physical strength alone could be enough to beat a blue belt

@randalwung8715 Год назад
@@tdpmayhemyt Wow, congratulations on your martial arts journey. And thank you not saying that you or any professional or amateur fighter today would mop the floor with him, lol. You know, you mention his training, and one thing that isn’t talked about much is the mental aspect of it: He was ALWAYS thinking about fighting. Little said Bruce was with a friend at a restaurant once and at some point was sitting there, chopsticks in hand, nodding his head, going, “Unhh…unhh…unhh…” When the friend got the nerve up to ask what he was doing, Bruce said, “I’m watching that guy over there. He’s talking, so he’s taking sporadic bites, so I’m trying to anticipate every time he actually puts food in his mouth-that’s when I’d strike.” He did the same thing watching TV, kicking and punching the second he thought a commercial was coming on. Like who does that? Turns everyday activities into training opportunities? Bruce did. So, yeah, who WOULDN’T be good thinking like that?
