I was the biggest heel Undertaker fan back then and him beating Hogan was one of my favorite matches as a kid. However, as a wrestling purest and someone that loves a smart story, I appreciate second match better, because they figured out how to book the Undertaker in a loss without hurting him one bit. They let him stop Hogan's finishing sequence cold, and the only way Hogan stopped him was to blind him with urn ashes and small package him. It was one of the most brilliantly booked losses I've ever seen to this day. And personally, I thought it was smart, because I didn't think Taker's character at that time, needed a belt at all, and I think it actually would have hurt him to keep the belt on him long term at that point.

I remember being home sick from school not long after this match and Hogan appeared on some day time talk show. The host asked him something like "I hear you lost the championship?" and he was like "NO WAY BROTHER BRING IT OUT!" It was years later until I realized Hogan was just lying and obviously not going to appear on TV without the belt.

Even as a kid I fully appreciated Bobby Heenan. I knew he was a character, and I saw his ability to get under people's skin as an art form. I was a huge hulkamaniac as a little kid when I got into wrestling and stayed loving Hogan, but when the Undertaker showed up that gimmick was so convincing and cool and well done that he became my favorite wrestler (he also had the impressive size/strength and agility to go with the gimmick). Omg that FREAKIN PAUL BERROR PROMO CUT BY BRUCE WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING !!!! HE LITERALLY JUST CUT A BETTER PROMO THEN 99 PERCENT OF PROMOS I'VE HEARD IN PRO WRESTLING OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS, LOL THAT SHIT WAS SPOT ON, THAT'S A TIME IN THE CARRIER OF THE UNDERTAKER THAT WAS ABSOLUTELY LEGANDARY , HE WAS BY FAR THE SCARIEST WRESTLING PERSONALITY EVER!!!!! THE WAY HE USED 2 SIT UP VS HIS OPPONENTS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RING. I WAS 5 OR 6 YEARS OLD AT A WWF SHOW AND WHEN THAT BELL DUNG , THE PRESENTATION AND AUMBEAUNCE OF JUST HIS ENTERANCE ALONE , THE ENTIRE ENERGY IN THE BUILDING CHANGED, IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I HAD EVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE , I OF COURSE WAS SCARED TO DEATH SITTING 2 ROWS BACK AND JUST THIS MASSIVE MAN ( YOU DON'T REALIZE JUST HOW BIG PHYSICALLY TAKER IS UNTILL YOU SEE HIM IN PERSON) AND THE IT FACTOR AND PRESENCE OF THE DEAD MAN WAS SOMETHING DIFF6, SOMETHING EXTREMELY SPECIAL , HIS IN RING ABILITY WAS A TOP LEVEL GUY BUT HIS GIMMICK ( WITCH HE ABSOULTLY NAILED TO PERFECTION) , I FEEL LIKE HE IS ACTUALLY UNDER RATED AND PEOPLE DON'T GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR THE AMAZING RUN HE HAS HAD , 2 DECADES PLUS AS A TOP TIER TALENT WHO NEVER NEEDED A BELT , WOULD INSTANTLY GIVE WHOEVER HE WAS WORKING HIS MATCH WITH A GREAT MATCH ON A NIGHT IN NIGHT OUT BASIS. I HOPE THAT THE WWE WHEN TAKER DOES DECIDE 2 WALK AWAY FROM THE IN THE RING PART OF HIS WRESTLING CAREER ( I BELIEVE HE WILL HAVE SOME SORT OF EXECUTIVE POSITION BEHIND THE SCENES WITH A LOT OF RESPECT AND A POWER PLAYER , WEATHER IT IS IN THE NXT , RAW OR SMACKDOWN PART OF THE COMPANY, HE IS GOING 2 BE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE SUCCESS OF WHATEVER BRAND HE DECIDES 2 GET INVOLVED WITH. HE IS ONE OF IF NOT THE ONLY TOP TIER TALENT THAT VINCE COULD ABSOLUTELY DEPEND ON NIGHT IN NIGHT OUT WITH A LEVEL PERFORMANCES AND IS A TOP LEVEL TALENT AS A IN RING PERFORMER BUT MAYBE MORE IMPORTANTLY HE MAY BE BETTER AT BEING A TRUE LOCKER ROOM LEADER , AND MAYBE THE ONLY TALENT VINCE KNEW WAS GOING TO 2 BE LOYAL TO THE WWF , THE COMPANY WHO GAVE HIM HIS BREAK OUT STAR CHANCE AND PROVIDED HIM THE OPPERTUNITY TO BECOME A TOP LEVEL MONEY DRAWING PHENOM , WHILE WCW LEADERSHIP AT THE TIME TOLD HIM HE WOULD NEVER MAKE ANY MONEY FOR ANY COMPANY IN PRO WRESTLING. EVEN THOUGH WCW LEADERSHIP HAD CHANGED DURING THE START OF THE MONDAY NIGHT WARS, UNDERTAKER WOULD HAVE NEVER TURNED HIS BACK ON VINCE, BECAUSE HE IS ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE WHO STILL BELIEVE IN LOYALTY TO PEOPLE WHO PROVIDE YOU OPPERTUNITY, PEOPLE WHO INVESTED A LOT OF MONEY AND TELEVISION TIME AND MILLIONS OF OTHERS IN ASSETS , AND EVEN WHEN THINGS LOOKED EXTREMELY BAD FOR THE WWF VS WCW , TAKER AND HBK WERE CARRING WWF TO KEEP IT AT LEAST COMPETIVE VS WCW . TAKER MAY BE THE MOST UNDERATED WWF/ WWE TALENT OF ALL TIME ON TOP OF HIM MAYBE BEING THE MOST IMPORTANT TALENT EVER, I KNOW THE HOGAN ARGUMENT AND THAT UNDERTAKER WOULD HAVE NEVER HAD THE PLATFORM 2 BECOME SUCESSFUL IF HOGAN WOULD NOT HAVE TAKING WWF TO A GLOBAL AND MAKE IT A STAPLE IN MAIN STREAM AND POP CULTURE, I CAN'T ARGUE AGAINST HOGAN BUT I DAMN SURE CAN JUSTIFY UNDERTAKER ARGUMENT AS THE MOST IMPORTANT TALENT IN COMPANY HISTORY

What really put “stink” on the Undertaker’s WWF/E title victory was the fact it will forever be seen as tainted because of Flair’s repeated and blatant interference in the match and assistance in Undertaker getting the win. The win was so controversial in storyline, that Hogan was granted pretty much an instant return bout in which he won the title back. To me the return match seemed like a do-over of the original match only this time everything worked out in Hogan’s favor.
@ajk
@ajk 4 года назад
Except even then there was still controversy with the ashes from the urn coming into play. This was what all led to the Rumble in 92 where Flair would win the now vacant belt remember. So it didn't exactly work out for Hogan either here, it was more of a draw.

“in the catacombs” 😂😂😂I’m high n I’m crying laughing imagining undertaker, Paul bearer and brother love in Paris Catacombs in a secret room playing cards. Would of been a amazing Vingettte having undertaker in catacombs if they didn’t already lol.

Here’s a question: why was the stipulation that Hulk Hogan and ultimate warrior would never wrestle again in a rematch? Wouldn’t it have been neat to build a rematch to wrestle at wrestlemania seven, taking a whole year to build it.

The WWF didn't repeat matches back in those days. It was usually one and done and then you go to the next feud.

I think it’s pretty common that many of us who were fans as kids grow to appreciate how good heels were when we get older. As a kid you’re busy hating them and don’t appreciate their talent. But as an adult you see how masterful their work was and understand why their character was what it was which allows you to recognize how good someone was. Examples for me are JBL and Edge. I despised them as a kid but as an adult I think they were masterful. On an unrelated note it seems wild that the Tuesday in Texas PPV happened. It seems like an odd idea to have a PPV and then another one less than a week later. I read somewhere that they did this show as an experiment to see if Tuesday could be a secondary PPV night going forward and that evidently the buyrste for this show was disappointing so they shelved the idea. But it seems like it was destined to fail this way. It seems likely that having a new PPV on a new night so soon after your last one and asking your fans to go in their pockets again so quickly wasn’t going to have a great result even if the show itself was amazing. Seems like if it was an experiment waiting a few weeks to do it would’ve been a more accurate measurement of Tuesday nights over doing a show so quickly after another one.

hogans ego wouldnt put over anybody and there was no way Vince or Hulk would book Flair to pin him clean at Mania 8 even though he was leaving for 10 months. Tuesday in Texas was just an excuse for Hogans' creative control to take back his win while also losing the title without actually losing - similar scenario with The Giant and Randy Savage in WCW for Halloween Havoc and World War 3. Hogan never returned to favor to Flair or Savage for all they did for his title runs. (note; Flair did get a weird win with the WCW first blood cage match 9 years later lol ) .
