The channel recently surpassed 1,000 Subscribers, and to celebrate, we're reviewing one of this year's Octomores: the 14.2. This is the European Wine Cask Matured version of this special whisky. Bruichladdich's Octomore series includes the most heavily peated scotch whiskies on the market (by measuring the phenol PPM of the barley). This cask strength (57.7%) Octomore 14.2 is matured in Oloroso and Amarone Italian wine casks for 4 years, then finished for a year in Pauillac French wine casks.
Thanks to everyone who has subscribed to the channel or supported it in any way. There's a lot more coming on the channel in Year Two ...

I found it interesting to learn the decisions, such as taking narrow cuts and longer fermentations, made to produce a quality whisky at such a young age. My perception before the review without ever having an Octomore was that it would taste super peaty. But that is a good point about the high PPM being misleading. Since they are taking a narrow cut of the spirit with tall stills, a lot of the peat elements won't make it into the final spirit. Lots to learn, thanks for sharing the knowledge!

Hey bro, new viewer here, love the info, love the intellectual knowledge, and you come off as someone I would love to share a dram with. Sipping my 14.2 and enjoying your review, forgot to say, put transition markers or images, I don’t know how to say it but when you went from nosing to palate I got surprised.

Hey, just in case you hadn't noticed, the last few videos you put out have a problem with the voice audio balance and there's no voice on one of the channels. It seems the problem started with your 30 Whisky Facts video onward. Your prerecorded intro sounds fine, which indicates it may be a problem with your camera, mic, or connection, and not your video editing software.

Thanks for point this out. You are 100% correct, and it was a hardware issue with a cord. It's been corrected as of my video featuring whiskies Cheaper Than Macallan 18.

Is there any terroir information on the peat? Is it the St. Fergus peat that they are rumored to use with the Port Charlotte expressions? I am such a tightwad, this is NFL to show up in my selection any time soon. That's three bottles of Benro15!

All they claim publicly is that it's Scottish Concerto.

I’m lucky enough to have had all three of the 14 series. I appreciate they have recently released a 14.4 too. I absolutely loved the 14.2. For me, it was one of my top three malts of 2023. I do tend to like dirty peated malts. My other two favourites of 2023 were the Bruichladdich Ternary Project (1000% recommended by the way) and a rather delicious 18yo private bottling of Ben Nevis. Slainte. 🥃
