I freaking laughed out loud when Erin "jones'd away" the rest of Josh's sample. Hilarious !!

Thanks for posting the Octomore tasting video! I went to Scotland in 2009 as a bourbon & rye drinker and did a blind tasting various Scotches and the peated ones ended up being my favorite! The 2 that I liked most were the Laphroiag and Lagavulin and years later I discovered the Octomore. Due to it’s price, I only have a bit once in a while, but it’s one of my favorites.

Great video. The Octomore 13 was released at the Nashville whiskey festival last september. All who sampled it ( and it was being poured rather liberally) loved it.

Octomore Legend X.1 = Uses barely from anywhere in Scotland X.2 = Finished in barrels other than bourbon X.3 = Uses barely form Islay only X.4 = partially aged in new oak 13.xx Batch release. The X.3 tend to have a more smoky taste than the X.1 series. It also costs more because it is difficult to grow barely on Islay.

This isn't quite right. .3 Octomore is not only Islay only barley, it is from ONE single farm owned by the Brown family.

Isn't 1 farm on Islay, Islay only and thus right? You may have added more detail but the original statement is still correct.@@es330td

I could nose and have this delicious scotch on my palette over and over! What a dance and a symphony! Outstanding!! I love all Islay scotch and that includes the iodiney and briney!! It is mood specific - great point. I think I have fallen madly in love with all elements of peated scotch. But I absolutely understand the iodine isn't a profile that everyone can love. I think this scotch is worth the price and it is sadly more in Canada. Octomore is amazing! This may be my favourite Octomore. The 13.2 and 13.3 are also fabulous! Wow you like it more when you know what it is? Interesting! Cheers!

Oh cool, Octomore blind! Was just at Bruichladdich with IBN, and it was bucket list stuff from beginning to end. Tasted an Octomore single barrel, snagged a vial to bring home, and picked up a bottle of 13.4, which is distillery exclusive. I was shocked at how the peat smoke and brine meshes so well with all sorts of other flavors in both. Totally worth £170 for the bottle IMO but not an every day sipper for sure.

The cost makes this something I wouldn’t buy though I’m a big scotch fan I came across a macallan 15 year that I got a deal on and couldn’t pass it up. Having said that I’m not a fan of heavy peat arberg is like putting a charcoal briquette and chewing it in my mouth. And I have a pretty forgiving palette but heavy peat just isn’t in my wheelhouse. Great content keep it up!!

Classic reaction to a peated whisky. When you get to the 13.2 sample it is 137.3 PPM, 58.3% ABV, Oloroso Cask. When you guys try it please let me know what you think of it.

Two questions: what’s story behind shirt, and what system, app, database, setup do you use on your phone for blind samples that you are referring to when checking sample number prices and names ?
@stuffandwhiskey
@stuffandwhiskey Год назад
Hey Warren, we use a really simple Google Forms page with dropdown boxes. The title of each box shows the corresponding key number and price, and we have to click the dropdown to see what the pour is. For the shirt, that one's easy--our faith is a big part of our lives. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R8MZbl-GRdY.html

220! Cool bottle, but I'll just stick to my Ardbeg and Laphroaig. BTW, craving salt can be a sign of dehydration aaaaand since I've never seen you all rate your favorite filtered waters, I have a feeling that might be the issue - saved you a doctor's visit lol. Great review, love the blind taste-testing, especially when Josh admits he would buy the bottle for the bottle, not what's inside afterward lol Thanks and keep it up :)

I love peat, but I haven't tried any of the Octomore releases yet. It is rather hard to find, and I haven't seen it in the local bars. Considering the price, it would be best to try it before buying. Bottles that are over $200 need to have something unique going on for me to consider them worth the price.

In the event you were ever willing to to try any scotch blind I cannot recommend Octomore highly enough. Lagavulin 16 used to be my favorite scotch and the waiter at a high end steak restaurant told me I might like Octomore. I will now drink any Octomore over any other scotch at any price point.

$220 for 13.1 is if you're lucky to find it at that price online before shipping. I saw it in Total Wine by me months ago and with all the tariffs etc it was $309 before tax. 13.3 was $339. OctloLESS for me unless I hit the Powerball.

@eviltrain24

It's been quite elevated. but I simply can't justify spending $150 or $250 on everything that costs that much. We all know price climbs faster than taste enjoyment and that the sweet spot for scotch is in the $50 to $90 price bracket. Anything more than that and the flavor profile has to AT LEAST be in your own wheelhouse. And frankly, it should have the makings of an elevated, complex, take you on a journey type of pour.

Octomore is very hit or miss for me. I see it quite often on shelves. But the price they're charging for young Scotch is kind of crazy. Some of the releases have older age statements, but I can't justify the prices on a 5 year old bottle.
