WARNING: LONG INTRO!! Product-by-product decluttering technically starts at [[4:18]] and you can skip right to that point by clicking on those numbers there inside the brackets. Thank u for your kind understanding
For anyone who owns the Kaja Bentos: there's a little hole in the bottom of each layer so you can depot them easily with a pin. They are glued in, rather than magnetized, so it isn't as handy to pop in and out. But useful to know if you want to work with them as singles.
REVOLUTIONARY, I did not know this!!! I do wish they sold those shadows as singles/refills, too though... I exclusively use the brown in the orange blossom trio and don't care for the other two, and I know I'm not going to want to buy all three shadows again to replace one.
Didn't know that! Thank you for the info. I love making my own palettes, and I avoid buying non magnetized premade palettes. Now ai feel I'll try the kajà bento s eventually
I'm in a phase of building my makeup collection rather than decluttering it, as I've just been getting into makeup now (in my late 30s!). I can easily end up overpurchasing when I get into a new hobby, so watching these declutters has been helping me remember to ask "is there an actual hole in my collection that this will (hopefully) fill" as I shop, instead of just "ooo pretty shiny colors" and ending up with too much makeup.
Yes do that. I was like you and got back into makeup in my mid 40s after many years without. I then went a bit mad and bought everything my fave reviewers liked 😮. I ended up with far to many products to realistically use and a huge pile of guilt to go with it. I’m just coming to the end of a no buy year (2022) and now that I’ve whittled things right down and learned what truly suits me (not just the reviewer) I’m determined not to make that mistake again. So I wish you all the best with enjoying your new found hobby and not tripping over it like I did! 😅😅😅
my biggest piece of advice is to put stuff in online carts and wait. and then when possible try stuff in stores before you buy, and obviously watch loads of reviews, to try and get a balanced view of new products. sitting on online carts makes me feel better, and helps me with budgeting, and buying stuff in person will remind you of how much you’re actually buying, helping you think of space, and also help you try stuff out so you don’t buy disappointing stuff which has to be returned (which then contributes to environmental waste).
That’s smart! I also started building my makeup collection in my 30s - about 3 years ago. I went from 1, 2 pan eyeshadow, 1 product for each thing, no bronzer what’s that? - to over 100 palettes, 65 blushes, 30 foundations and so on…. It’s easy to get off track and end up with too much. But - I view mine as a collection and I’m building it, not decluttering it also. But I still love declutters lol - just not personally doing them. ❤
I can totally relate. I went through overpurchasing at the beginning of my phase a few years ago. I ended up giving away about half of my collection, selling about a third and I still have two full drawers of makeup. I did a no buy year this year and I’m surely feeling pretty wild right now, because I want EVERYTHING. I have to remind myself that makeup is ridiculously expensive and takes a long time to use up, so I’m starting with some precautions: - I’m not buying eyeshadow palettes again that are not wearable for every day. As a matter of fact - before I consider buying anything - I try to check if I already have something similar - not buying any drugstore eyeshadow or face colour cosmetics anymore- I usually enjoy higher end stuff much more and you have them for years. Buying drugstore products usually doesn’t satisfy my hunger for pretty things. -I’m doing a lot of window shopping online and then I’m trying to put into perspective what I could get instead of makeup for this money. I want some variety, but I also don’t want stuff laying around that just goes bad. I’m trying to remember that this is just stuff for my face. Instead I could get some nice clothes, a bag, stuff for my home, SAVE the money etc… after this no buy year I’m much better at taking care of my hair, of how I dress etc. Realistically, a normal consumer does not need and can’t go through as much make-up as we end up buying, because of RU-vid. Watching declutters definitely helps me remember that this stuff is not forever.
These videos always make me so aware of how much I wish companies made products in smaller sizes. I know some companies do minis but they packaging is always so janky and it cost more per g/oz of product. I want companies to makes smaller makeup with the same quality of packaging with a price that is at least close to proportional with the cost of the bigger one. I feel like they come out with value sizes that are bigger all the time but never a smaller size. Most the time I don’t go through things before they get too old and it just makes me feel so wasteful throwing out something that’s only half empty. Plus I genuinely enjoy trying new makeup but every time I do I’m aware I’m adding yet another thing to my probably already too big collection
You should try Viseart if you haven’t. They are a brand that caters to makeup artists needing everything mini/small for travel purposes. Their shimmer quality is not very shiny more of a very subtle satin but their mattes blend so easily. They have all matte palettes that are separated into warm mattes cool mattes neutral mattes and a rainbow matte palette and I love them all and use them all the time over other palettes plus they are so small and cute like so small they can fit in the palm of your hand
*slow clap* I really didn't know how you were going to make it through this one (as you laid out those singles I audibly said 'oh she's fucked') but your strength and perseverance is basically a medical marvel at this point
"stored where the sun don't shine" is SUCH a good litmus for decluttering, be it clothing, makeup, accessories.....thank you for being you and brb im headed to my closet
I would love to see how you present/organise all of these pieces when you’re done to keep inspiring you to use them. That’s a part I struggle with, particularly with single pots.
Second comment but I am LIVING for the thumb holed sleeves of the past few declutters. It reminds me of angsty teen years when I did this to one of my (obviously) black long-sleeved shirts. Forever an aesthetic I can get behind
Hannah's makeup content has been such an inspiration for me getting back into playing with makeup. And of course I had to start with a declutter of the items I realized were frightfully old.
It's amazing to me how invested I get in these declutters of yours and start rooting so hard for one or two products to make it through each round, almost like I'm watching a sports contest and cheering for my favorite athletes lol. During this round as an olive eye makeup Enthusiast I was pulling so hard for Oxidized Olive to make the cut and actually let out a loud sound of defeat when you decided to declutter it haha. Made total sense why you did ultimately get rid of it though, despite my clear bias 😆
You inspired me to declutter my own makeup collection. I approached it in a Marie Kondo way and got rid of everything that didn’t spark any joy in me or I didn’t use in the past year. I want to go into 2023 with less stuff and I feel like that way I can appreciate the things I use all the time and which make me happy.
Urban Decay kills it when it comes to sparkle! The Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliners, and the Moondust Eyeshadows are both such extraordinary products. 👌🏻 They add so much to my collection and looks whenever I use them, and they both just freaking last and last - mine are years old and they still work like they're brand new. LOVE IT. 👏🏻💜✨
Wow I did not expect Victor/Victora AND Tina Belcher in this declutter video lol. Love both of them so much. Also this was an amazing video; I think the best one so far for showcasing really what you're trying to do this year.
ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR DECLUTTERS💕❤️💕😃 Your reasoning and explanation is like poetry. So different and lovely compared to other beauty RU-vidrs. Very practical and artsy too
this is making me want to go through my own collection and do a harsh declutter as well, but i'll stay my hand until i'm more level head lol as most of the stuff i actually purchased myself and i'll end up regretting a harsh declutter done on impulse. really well done with your declutter, your collection is so much streamlined now!
I'm excited for this declutter and your reasonings on keeping or not keeping things. This year I did my first declutter since I started building my collection in 2019 with some of the talking points you use in your videos. The way you love and care for the things you own is really awesome - its not just about owning them. They need to have a space and purpose. That's the message that translates to me. As a recovering almost-hoarder that's something I'm learning for the last 3 years and seeing it too is helpful. I did the low-buy this year, established a good relationship with the things I own and found the stuff a new home, that don't fit in anymore. Now on to the video 🙂
Very excited for this portion of the declutter because single shiny shadows have become my favorite portion of my makeup collection courtesy of Lauren Mae and although I am still incredibly excited and love all of my shiny little things like the magpie I am, I know your conversation around decluttering will be illuminating in both content and the shadows themselves.
I love how some people just want a few pieces of makeup and some people love having variety. I have a huge collection as I was a makeup artist and worked in beauty for many years and I declutter makeup but I love having the variety. I can go down from 15 liners to 10 liners but won't do it just to have a few items. For me, when I get them for free I carry less guilt as I didn't purchase them but even though you have a channel I'm surprised at your will power to still want to have minimal makeup or makeup you will use up. Great video :)
I’ve really been appreciating these declutter videos. I’ve started decluttering my makeup too! It made me remember that when I first started wearing it, my goal was to have go-to pieces that make me look and feel beautiful, and made me feel happy. A cluttered collection that stresses me out, with pieces that don’t quite do it for me, isn’t going to accomplish that.
I'm always fascinated by people's eyeshadow declutters. I just realized Hannah a lot of what you use and or declutter..... like the Roen single for me that orangey gold is a staple lol. I never thought of that but since we differ so much in looks it's just cool to think about you know. Like the Auric I understand and when you mentioned Holiday colors it does makes sense. But for me that shade of green is a staple to blend my other greens and golds into and that shade of red is a go to for me in the Summer where I tan EVEN more lol. But I'm just fascinated how things differ from person to person. Like I thank you and Paulina for getting me into these type of colors that for me as a brown girl are my go to staples. So once again Thank you Hannah for showcasing your collection. I'm keeping my eye out for those Victoria Beckham eyeliners as well. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
The fact that TWO phytosurgence made it through speaks volumes to me! I have had a wish list for them since I first saw you review their skin sparks. I really want to try fractal freesia when I do eventually place an order in the new year. I have my blush choices narrowed down to three & keep waffling over which one I should get! 🤭✨
Your decluters make me cry a little bit inside. I'm thinking "I wish I could have that" all the time. I've been watching makeup videos and declutters for years, I have a massive amount of makeup and even before owning all the makeup I do now, I never thought "I wish I could have that" 😭
"This isn't the only shiny thing on earth, Hannah." Is a motto I need to incorporate into my life. It's such a sane reminder not to be swept up by one's emotions about one item when one probably has other shiny things in one's collection already.
I bought the Colourpop shadow in Ritz a few weeks ago and it came broken so I retuned it. I broke down during the Sephora holiday sale and bought UD Moondust Space Cowboy for 20% off. It's far superior to the Colourpop and I am glad I didn't settle and bought Space Cowboy, it's a precious.
I have a large makeup collection that I want to declutter ❌ I am interested in eyeshadow and use it regularly ❌ I love listening to Hannah describe her thought process in curating her collection and will never not click on her declutter videos ✅
I just did an eyeshadow single/depotted eyeshadow declutter (even decluttered a lipgloss that made it past my lip declutter). I'm so inspired by you, Hannah. And I'm happy with my choices. I'm doing a makeup no-buy next year and I'm happy with adding a few things last I find/found myself wanting currently before the year is up and decluttering some items that can just go for various resons. This series is just perfect for me right now, plus I'm enjoying it.
Hannah, I can't even begin to explain how much I use your advice in my every day life. Every time I want to buy something, I really sit and think about it and you always pop into my head as my "reason mind". I'm so grateful Sam sent me to you a little over a year ago. You've truly changed my life for the better! 💚
What is so fun about these declutter videos, having been a long time subscriber, is that this is almost like having a conversation with you. I found myself at the beginning "don't forget the essum" and then when you declutter them it made perfect sense. Your subscribers seem to really love when you declutter, can't wait for the next installment 😄
Brutal. 👏🏻👏🏻 I do remember having just one blush, one mascara, one liner, etc… My collecting started in 2001 with Bare Escentuals (bare minerals) and I’m so used to having tons of choices. I declutter often but am happy with the amount I have right now, using what I own and rarely adding anything new.
Rewatchinh cuz nothing else is on. Seeing 11:11 reminds me of how I panned that beautiful sparkly pink shade and I want it back in my life. It was so good. I used to just top a ton of eye looks with it and it really lights up a look.
It's funny because I just bought the Roèn 75° because I remembered you raving about it for years and it disappointed me. It all has too much glitter, all shades have it in the same color, and it ends up all over my face in a matter of minutes. For a bit I thought that they might have reformulated it, but I rewatched your original first impression of them and no, I was just persuaded by your enthusiasm. I don't have, or use, a lot of makeup, but I love watching your videos since the no-buy year, and I guess I assumed I would like the same things you like. It's good to realize that I have my own criteria, and that makeup is not magic. It's just paint for the face.
2019 was a banner year of purchasing makeup, way, way too much. I decided to make 2020 a no-buy year and that turned out to be much less of a challenge than I expected. I have so much unused makeup it’s rather depressing. Thank you for helping me get into the right state-of-mind to do what MUST be done. 🌸🐝
You, my dear, are a better woman than me. I was inspired , I have way much but I did let the gold Rosen disco eye go to one of my girls with the complexion to pull it off. Yay🎉 keeping 172 letting go of one. Baby steps. ❤
Just got the Victoria Beckham liner in Olive her liners are all I own for liners with the exception of a 2 essum liners that I love and I am completely satisfied the olive was the last missing piece
I had collected quite a few Colourpop Super Shock Shadows, and i LOVED owning them and looking at them. However, during a recent declutter, i came to terms with the fact that i never use any of them. I just don't reach into an individually-potted eyeshadow...ever. I'm not a one-and-done shadow person (i use a minimum of six shadows per look), and if i need something to add to a look, i'll never dig through a collection of individual items. It just became apparent to me that they are just as cumbersome to me as their name is. So i gave them all to my daughter, who uses them frequently.
cannot express how much your declutters have helped me be a better decision maker, both in purchasing and decluttering. Thanks so much for sponsoring intention in my life Hannah
I'd love a recap later down the line if you end up decluttering some of the products you weren't as certain about or even an update on how your makeup use has changed/improved since decluttering
I did a huge declutter 2 days ago. It took me 2 days to do it. I only decluttered 2 eyeshadow palettes because the shades were broken. I did get rid of some singles though. I just wasn't feeling it. I love how you describe your reasoning for keeping/tossing each item. You have a very soothing, relaxing voice as well. Great series
I am dying to see the vanity top / storage of this brutal declutter. I've been so excited to watch that I haven't even watched in order, but I'm just so close to the edge of my seat!! xoxo
I am starting to have fantasy of making art with old makeup.......... (not so much the foundations, but the coloured stuff.......) PS - I haven't worn makeup in 50 years but I love your videos, such a beautiful aesthetic experience.
For the Roen quads, with a pin or something small you can pop out the shadows. Yes, they're glued in not magnetized but you could in theory switch out the shades to have only one quad if you desired. I don't blame you for keeping them!
I love your declutters because I take the same approach to my makeup (try to only keep special) even though I am just a consumer so it can be hard to part with things that you’ve paid for. But it’s worth it in the end. Better to get use out of your favourites.
The Jillian Dempsey sounds like the Charlotte tilbury classic powder pencils formula, charcoal is a good description. I find these formulas diffuse into a gorgeous gradient and offer more play time for blending. The soft powdery formula meshes really well with shadows than a lot of longer wear (tight line) formulas. “The one I actually want” , this sentiment is why I stopped all subscription boxes. I’d rather purchase one lovely item than make due with dozens of mediocre items. Well I’m trading ritz in for space cowboy. Ritz was my HG for so long, but I can’t tell you the last time I’ve actually reached for it. * the DM color fix looks so different swatched, it’s like magic!! I’m so tempted!
Love these videos but I spent the whole time questioning this shirt choice and cringing every time you swatch as the makeup gets closer and closer to the sleeve 😅😅 great work as always though
Yayyy, love your declutters!! They motivated me to let go 2 old lipsticks I never use but always thought "oh but there is still so much left" - lets be honest, I will never finish them up so why hold on to it???
I'm waiting for the palette declutter video. I wanna see how much of the Gold Palette you keep. I can see you keeping it all or decluttering the shades you don't use often and keeping the ones you really love. I don't think the whole palette will go bye bye, but will have to see.
This is going to be so good. Late commenter as I'm not feeling well but this is cheering me up. I take your eyeliner recommendations seriously and I always love to see your single shadows. Thank you Hannah for all your hardwork.
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying your cutthroat purge of your makeup collection and I can’t wait for your next video! Just some quick feedback for your next video: I prefer when you swatch the products on the back of your hand instead of your fingertips because it gives a better idea of the true colour and texture of the product - fingertips have a red/pink hue that affects the colour. I think the back of the hand better mimics what it will look like on the eyes!
I love your brutal honesty with yourself in this video it's inspiring. I have so many lipsticks I keep because I used to love them but I know I need to let them go
Your declutters really help me with my make-up collection 💜. I'm getting into depotting and decluttering eyeshadow palettes I thought I will never get rid of.
Hannah, as a girly who can afford mostly Colourpop priced makeup, I held my breath to hear your thoughts on the super shocks. I am glad you didn’t slaughter them 😅 bc I love them, but I also hear you that they aren’t sturdy. Maybe someday I can find something just as good as the other brands you do love. I just look up to you a lot. You’re like my wise older sister of makeup collecting. ❤ Ps I am doing a no buy next year so I can’t wait to wathc your no buy videos as I struggle and grow as a person. Love you 😘
Love this video 💗 and like the other comments mentioned - you can depot all of the shadows, even the ones that don’t have a hole in the back! They make small tools that help you pop them out and I’m certain you can find them on amazon for cheap!
My dream for ColourPop single shadows would be a reusable container with thin inserts of shadow that would be 10-15 applications for those of us that don’t want to commit to the same color everyday for a year. It would be innovative to create recyclable or biodegradable inserts (maybe a heavy cardboard?). I love some of the color but packaging waste and knowing it’s too much product for me to not get bored with keeps me from buying them. I do kinda miss Z palettes for creating our own ideal collections with minimal waste. Maybe someday manufacturers will see the future of makeup is being more responsible with resources.
@@cndc0618 i really hope. I’d love it if they made paper samples similar to lottery ticket peel back to try out colors at home. Avon did it years ago. Might be a cool way to even do PR then give reviewer a gift card to get favorites without sending entire collections of full size products. Brands really need to get more creative because the plastic trash is seriously gross. I know I’d pay more to know I’m going to love a product by trying at home first.
This would be a hard one for me! I especially love my sparkly singles but I have managed to get rid of a few that a disgustingly old! Loving your declutter content!!
Hi Hannah. The only "liner" I use is cocoa from the Laura Mercier Caviar stick. It's versatile and performs well, esp in the water line. When I run out, I'm uncertain what else to try. Your suggestions were helpful...might splurge on the Victoria Beckham. That bronze IS beautiful.
Loved how vicious you were with your collection I think you are going to be so happy in the new year as you won't have anything you are hesitant to reach for. I recently decluttered 3 nude lipsticks to my mom and she is obsessed with them and didn't own any. I also culled two single shadows and there are 2 more on the chopping block. I also decluttered a blush so its been good to do that. I don't want to have guilt and I also don't have to have things that I am begrudging reaching for.
I rarely feel this in watching declutters, but it was so hard to watch you declutter those multichrome kaleidos liners! That was pretty much the only product I had to fight myself to avoid buying on black Friday.
If I had to start my makeup collection over, I’d just buy phytosurgence for blush and eyes. So I see why it’s hard for you to narrow it down! The eye pots are so ideal and I reach for them over everything.
I'll take your kaleidos duo/multichromes 😭 haha loving this declutter series, I'm nowhere near the point of needing to declutter, because I'm new to the game and barely own any make up, but it's reminding me to appreciate the things I have, as well as in the art supplies/fountain pen department- that's where the bulk of my.. bulk is. The kaleidos eyeliners remind me of "chromo shading" fountain pen inks!
This video touches on a common problem with Indie makeup: the packaging is nice but it's all identical and it makes it hard to have more than one of a thing. It's a bummer if you like a formula or love a brand. I am this way with Wayne Goss. The eye shadow palettes and the blush AND the bronzer are all identical packaging.
