I thought the whole vide is kind of weird to be honest, he is giving instructions on how to potentially kill someone but, "please be careful, just give it a try". And if he is a self defence expert or trainer or whatever why is giving instructions on something so dangerous?
@@petecabrina I have been in martial arts for 50 years; the martial art community has the best and worst of men, the wisest and the most foolish. Many techniques taught in contemporary mma are just as dangerous as this one. A punch, kick or knee to the head is very dangerous however it is done. So called "trapping" was fashionable in 80s martial arts. It came from Chinese kung fu mostly wing chun influence and was way over emphasised at the time, although it arguably does have some useful application, but not much need for it really.
@@petecabrina Well because there could be a situation where get out with your life or that if your children one may need that option in a (break glad) situation. 😎. And he is an expert. Credentials are rock solid!!
oh GOD, I'm sorry and before I saw your comment I started to laugh the way he casually says then you die....HAHAHA....damn how refreshing and comforting....have a great day and be well!!!......and the guy is really good and dangerous methinks!!..
Train with Paul Vunak for 5 measly days and it will rock your world . You'll reconsider what you think you know about street fighting . Great video and thanks .
3. This is a drill! Not a strategy. One of the goals of JKD is to train your body to be reactive to the immediate situation. Once you're in a position, you should be able to flow into many, many different reactions depending on the situation. He's showing ONE.
2. Very few martial artists have put as much effort into "functionalizing" their style as Paul Vunak. I've been in JKD circles for a long time and the stories are numerous... and more than a bit scary. If you do your homework you'll find he's a very credible source for functional martial arts.
Yeah me and my pops got all this dudes DVD's back in the day. We trained with motor cycle helmets and all that haha. I honestly try to avoid real life violence but my dad is a savage man. He's used a lot of this in street fights and it really is effective.
Yeah yeah. I like ur way of making sense here. That's what I try to teach ppl. That it's NEVER like how they portray it on television. You made that point perfectly here! Well done! Keep that way of thinking & pass it on as much as possible. Nicely done here, mate!
Nice Paul. Many people may raise the question and say what if the attacker is fighting back. Well, any true Martial Artist Warrior would be able to utilize strategies to interrupt the attackers vision (his eyes) and even his respiratory system (his breathing) no attacker can fight back when he can't see or breath. But if you are a keyboard Warrior-you would not understand that at all. Paul Vunak is a very highly qualified Martial Arts instructor! Oss!
good point. that's exactly what i thought was great about how he didn't just introduce the technique, but all the moves that could have been utilized prior in order to lead up to that point
Definitely Paul Vunak teaches the most real world scenario's of fighting that I've seen, fighting is a violent encounter to say the least, so you better know how to become violent as well when that time comes you need it. And pray you never have too.
Lots of idiots on the internet who just like to talk all kinds of stupid crap and either one, they probably have never been in a fight in their life and don't realize this is just a training video. Or two, they more then likely have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. And just talking out their ass. Anyone with half a brain realizes he is only demonstrating moves and explaining the technique step by step so you can LEARN SOMETHING. Keyboard wanna be warriors don't seem to understand that though. Of course an attacker isn't just going to stand there and let you do this to him. There is a thing called waiting for the right time and looking or creating an opening. Would be very stupid to just punch a guy in his face if there was a good chance he could block it, right ? Has to be an opening ( maybe after he misses or right after you parry his attack ) or wait for the right opportunity to explosively attack from a non threatening and relaxed position so you don't telegraph. And just by using a little imagination you can see how brutal this movement is. Slamming his head down and crushing it with your rising knee followed by a smashing elbow hitting the other side of his head to finish him off.
Perhaps you didn't notice 1) the Strike to the face AND, 2) Headbutt to the face during the trapping sequence BEFORE attempting to pull his head down. That's where the stun you mentioned occurred.
What’s crazy about paul is how he does these demonstrations at lightening speed but also has the reflexes and control to not accidentally injure the people used in demonstrations. Dudes a monster.
Got about 15 Dvds of Paul Vunak's Jeet Kune do concepts ... AWESOME !!! Just AWESOME !! Paul Really knows SH ...Stuff !! I wish Paul taught me this Stuff in person when i was younger!! You the man , Paul !! But i learned a LOT from his DVD'S.. But like Paul said .. In person is different .. You can feel the Energy !! Thanks Paul !!
Can you imagine training this with an overzealous grainy partner? "oops, sorry man! It was an accident! Oh man, your brains beginning to swell...want so motrin?"
after he talks about the killing technique he then goes into gentle buddist monk mode and then it is the alien band music of the cantina of the first star wars movie
What's to be worried is not the people who go picking a fight now, but the people who train these moves over and over again, and go shit around for fun..
Remember when this was life? Remember a time /before/ "Don't try this at home"? When it was "This is dangerous shit. Be careful. Give it a try." We respected each other and ourselves more back then. We treated each other as capable of decision making. Not now.
Funny, I just watched a video of Paul showing "Dumog" that seems much older than this clip and he mentions the same technique, he's obviously kept hold of it!
" But I wouldn't have thought that the chances of getting a knife away from someone is 'just about zip'" You're probably right, it's probably closer to "zip." Krav people have no idea whatsoever what they are doing with knives. Try it with a kali guy. There are a number of reasons why knife defenses are taught. Some have to do with building confidence, and there is also the fact that if you don't at least try something, your chances ARE zero.
@TheFreudgonebad Dan Inosanto really trained some good students in the martial arts. I really love studying Paul Vunak and Erik Paulson both. Vunak more so for trapping and striking and Paulson more so for grappling and ground work.
Studied with some of both of their students. Mostly with Paulson's students... we felt like training dummies LOL both my brother and myself were good boxers with decent stand up... and then in the third round it was full MMA, where we were fish out of water. We'd get the best of them the first two... That was our first forray into BJJ with Machados and Catch As Catch Can Wrestling. Which there are literally thousands of BJJ schools. Paul was right on about training for attributes coming from weapons. I carry two with me at all times. A Fox Dart and a trainer. I'm not going to go toe to toe with guys who are 60 to 80 lbs larger than me. But put a force multiplier in my hands with the attributes of years and years of training...then it's on. Which I've never had to... besides, who wants to hurt someone with a real blade? Keyboard warriors fantasize about it. Real martial artists don't. They avoid it, or try to at all cost. Anyhoo, sorry for high jacking 😂
It's not the technique that made my skin crawl, it was the Mr. Rogers' Neighbourhood tone in his voice. "Please be careful, let's give it a try...Yes, you neighbour. Be careful not to cause your other neighbour's brain to swell as death will occur."
Before you do that technique you have to break a guy down. That's why you have to watch the whole video before you make negative comments about the video. If someone writes a letter you have to read the whole letter in order to understand the flow of the letter in order to understand what the author is communicating .
In the demo he throws three strikes by :07s THEN grabs the neck. And, the first hit don't get in. The point is 'ring their bell' then finish 'em... or not.
