@@dozergames2395 "durable in their own right" yes, but they can be paralyzed, a Krogan can't be. A Krogan also has a fairly rapid healing rate due to having more than one circulatory system to pump blood where it needs to go when physically injured, Brutes don't. A Brutes rage is literally just them losing control of their temper, a Krogans battle-rage is a chemical reaction that can be intentionally triggered during a fight that shoots a lot of natural pheromones and stuff through their bodies. Brutes lose on all sides when more than a cursory glance is done for research.

A lot of the stuff Shepard does to krogans is purely plot Armour. Krogans in Canon are shown to lift hundreds of pounds with no effort, tossing them to the side like rag dolls. Standard fire arms do little to them as well, many lore settings saying that extremely heavy weapons are required to take down even a single krogan.
@PhthaloGreenskin
@PhthaloGreenskin 2 года назад
Also keep in mind that in mass effect 2 onwards shepherd is a cyborg with bullet resistant skin, ceramic grafted to his bones and synthetic muscles fibers amplifying his musculature. But you also have to remember that plasma weapons and needles are super scary too. In lore a near miss from a plasma rifle will give you 3rd degree burns if your just an average marine, and a direct hit on flesh will cause 4th degree burns Ala the entire arm or limb is incinerated. A needler shard exploding in your gut will shred organs like confetti. A single overcharged plasma pistol melted through Linda's mjolnir armor and basically killed her until she got the shepard treatment from halseys since John shoved her in cryo until she could get proper medical attention. So even in round 2 if the brute is using a plasma weapon like a brute plasma rifle or even a fuel rod gun he has a very good chance of killing that krogan as biotic and kinetic barriers do not protect against extremes of temperature as stated in the codex. So if the brute gets a direct hit with a fuel rod gun on the battlemaster he had a very good chance of incinerating that krogan. In ghosts of onyx Holly in her spi suit leaped in front of Kelly and took a direct hit from a fuel rod cannon (albeit from a hunter wich is way more powerful) and she got incinerated completely, the only thing that remained was 2 blacked boot prints on the ground. In that same battle will 043 in his mark 6 armor took a direct hit from a hunters cannon while his shields were up. He wasn't incinerated but the cannon scorched his entire torso armor and melted a hole in his chest. With a plasma rifle the way I see a brute winning is by shooting him in the face in an attempt to melt his helmet and try to blind the krogan by burning out it's eyes but I honestly don't see a brute being intelligent enough to do that I think that's more along the lines of what an elite would try to do. As far as round one unarmored I think is more debatable since krogans are way tougher being able to survive being dismembered for a few minutes and a redundant nervous system but brutes are way stronger because they come from a fairly high gravity world. An angry brute nearly strangled master chief to death in his mark V armor and he described the brutes grip like that of 2 bands of steel around his throat and chief managed to escape the brutes grip by being tactical by shrimping his body and kicking the brutes chest with both feet. And keep In mind that John kicked a Drill Intructer wearing mark III power armor 8 meters away from him while he was training on reach before he received his power armor above chi ceti 4. So that kind of force was required to escape an angry brutes grip. Brutes are pretty ridiculous tbh.
@PhthaloGreenskin
@PhthaloGreenskin 2 года назад
Addendum: I can evision a scenario where they both die because in the book mass effect revalation (wich is the prequel to mass effect 1) a krogan battle Master named Skarr is tasked with hunting down kahlee Sanders and I think he flips a mako end over end with his biotic powers although it took him a few moments to gather that energy. So I can image the Brute fires his fuel rod cannon and as the blast hits the krogan uses its biotic abilities and flings the Brute chieftain into the side of a building. If you give the brute a gravity hammer thiers a 0% chance of him winning because he'll never get within Melee range before he's atomized by a warp throw combo.

@epiccarrot88
@epiccarrot88 3 года назад
Personally, I'd still give it to the Krogan. Their hides are too tough. I mean, the codex says the only weapon that can pierce their hide is a molecular blade. Maybe the Yahgs have more physical strength, but not by much, considering the Krogan can lift solid panels of metal. And unlike the Yahg, Krogans have multiple of every organ, so should the Yahg get off a hit, the Krogan could keep going.
@samg.5165

@@epiccarrot88 Krogans are resilient, but the difference in physical strength is enormous. I think you’ve forgotten to factor in the fact that a krogan can live up to a thousand years, so a regular krogan soldier could have hundreds of years of combat experience. So that could help in a hand to hand fight as well as the fact that a mortality wounded krogan enters a blood rage which increases strength and Ferociousness. Though I will concede that they might still lose to a brute like you said.
@peternash7104
@peternash7104 2 года назад
Odd doesn't feel like hundreds of years of experience when a round hits them in the head. Also there's a fallacy thinking longevity, let's say 2x the battle experience, means you are twice as good in battle. If that's the case wouldn't Humans and Salarians be the worst in Mass Effect? But STG, and N7 clearly produce monsters that contend with the best. It's similar to a old Bruce Lee quote "Doesn't make Perfect; Perfect Practice makes Perfect." Meaning if you are doing something wrong how the hell does it become right if you do it wrong for hundreds of years? You don't do train to do something right, that's impossible. You train so that it's impossible to do something wrong. Also no one wants to talk about the extremely poor and clumsy physiology of the Krogan where they are straight forward and literally lack any flexibility. It looks like if they fall over on their back they'll go full turtle. Given their short legs and arms, and large torso.

@@peternash7104 You include N7 in what should be the worst. Humans aren’t even close to the shortest living species. Humans and Turians have about the same lifespan and humans had this lifespan before joining the galactic community so this is subject to only become longer. Pretty much every notable species, drell, quarians, volus etc live about maximum 85 years. Salarians live about 40, and Vorcha live 20 years if they even survive that long. Salarians are so good at their job because they have the best technology realistically, and they’re bonafide super autists dude. They die so quickly that they’ve evolved to be able to do as much as they possibly can, and as efficiently as they can in their short life spans. Their intelligence and culture of purely seeking advancement is part of why they’re likely the most independent race and definitely the most independent race on the council. @peternash7104 2 года назад
@@imapleb4956 I didn't ask for the lecture and clearly I knew what I was talking about. But to suggest that a being that lives for thousands of years, along with the Asari are in a realm of their own, due to 'experience' is faulty. In their own damn universe, not pulling from other fictional universes, Krogan were defeated by a tag team of Turian and Salarian. Salarian built the weapon and Turian was the muscle. Meaning, at least for a time, Turian were more than enough for Krogan. Despite Krogan having overwhelming numbers. Now Krogan are significantly weaker than before and yet somehow Turian's who are like discount Elites is ignored? Nothing signifies they have any of the power, speed, ect. They freaken rip through titanium with ease. And while Shepard headbutting a whine baby one was mostly intended as a joke he was a normal human still shoved one back, sure he'd never win in a fist fight against one but a brute would rip him in half. He needs the tools and equipment. And a vast majority of Krogan do not have shields or good equipment. A vast majority still believe in correlating battle to superior genes that is resistant to the genophage. Living for a thousands years is meaningless if they are unwilling to learn something new, keep doing the same things over and over again. Asari do the same things due to arrogance and tradition, Krogan because they are stubborn, at least Turians adapt faster. Hell even the Hanar talk about breaking away from tradition and trying something new to be apart of the galactic community. All I'm saying is that the OP thousand year thing would work best for something more human not something as mindless as the common Krogan, even Krogan scientist comment how their relatives are stuck with the same faulty mindset.
@Ivanjumper13
@Ivanjumper13 2 года назад
@@peternash7104 Your mistake was thinking they were "defeated" had the krogan been under one banner like Wrex does at the end of the 3rd game then they Turians and Solarians would never have even made it to Tuchanka. The Krogan beat the Rachni a swarm logic type enemy that over powered and over ran every planet they came across. There is also the argument of the regeneration ability. Garrus a Turian recalled a fight with a Krogan where he would regenerate life ending blows in a few seconds, broken bones don't matter when you regenerate that fast which means the only way the Brute could win in basic hand to hand would be a killing blow to the head. Aka if the Krogan takes a broken arm or leg but still gets a hit in on the Brute its over, the Krogan will simply outlast the Brute due to regeneration. The Brutes are the imbodyment of feral strength the unarmed fight I think will be a toss up but with weapons and training Krogan win hands down.

Krogan also have that suicidal "Blood Rage", trait. And they have secondary back up organs. They have a second heart, an entire second set of lungs, regenerative abilities, and FOUR testicles. The Krogan literally would have twice the balls of any Brute. That doesn't factor in that Krogan are far more intelligent and covered in scales and hide. The way a Krogan Battlemaster fights also works in their favor here. Battlemasters are actually a new sort of Krogan warrior, after their species was hit by the Genophage. The Codex states that "To the Battlemaster, killing is a science" and the idea is that Battlemasters focus on turning themselves into the most lethal, singularly effective and unkillable badasses around, essentially taking a quality approach since quantity isn't an option for them. So in a one-on-one fight like that, my vote goes to the Battlemaster.

I'd have to give it to the Krogan. One of the reasons, besides plot armor, that spartans beat brutes has a lot to do with experience or measured violence without the savagery of the brutes. Successful Krogan have centuries of experience to draw on when they fight especially if you're going to bring in battle masters and warlords. Throw in the tech and it's not even a competition.
@dungeonguy88
@dungeonguy88 2 года назад
Yeah, I'd say one of the biggest disadvantages for the Brutes is that they often eschew technology or subtlety, and often rely on being given technology that is complimentary to their abilities. While Krogan are violent and brutish, they also generally fight smart and are more capable of using every tool at their disposal.
@Slender_Man_186
@Slender_Man_186 2 года назад
Well no, the Brutes were a space fairing civilization, before they accidentally nuked themselves back to pre-industrial. They’re fairly smart, probably about as smart as humans considering how we’ll likely end up much like them to an extent. When you do consider the equipment they’ve been given, a Brute War Chieftain with a fuel rod canon would dominate no matter what, the shields and fire power. Brutes during the tail end of the war especially were surprisingly calm, only berserking as a last ditch effort when their armor is gone and their allies are too.

@@dungeonguy88 until you consider that even a charged plasma pistol shot was enough to nearly kill Linda, one of the best Spartan IIs, or how a fuel rod fully disintegrated a Spartan III in SPI Armor, and later a Spartan II makes Will in Mk VI took a fuel rod cannon blast to the chest. That single shot stripped his shields and scorched the entire torso armor, and that’s titanium that’s been given a heat resistant coating. Even a near miss with a plasma rifle is enough to leave a normal marine with 3rd degree burns, direct hits are 4th degree burns, the area hit is left completely burnt through.
@Lolk266
@Lolk266 2 года назад
@@Slender_Man_186 Isn’t the fuel rod cannon’s damage heavily reliant on radiation? If I remember right, the Krogan’s homeworld is pretty heavily irritated and they’ve evolved to withstand it. The Krogan in game compared to Lore are also very different in terms of power. Shep can tear through warlords and battle masters simply because if they followed lore, the fight would drag on for hours with how their regeneration factor is supposed to work. It’s similar to how Chief tears through brutes like they’re nothing in game. Either way, it’s a fun little debate. Personally my money would be on the Krogan. They were legit so powerful in the Mass Effect lore that the other races had to formulate a disease to stop them from taking over everything.

I kinda feel like it's a hard comparison, Krogan are talked up and talked about but due to the mass effect engine and cheesy cutscenes, you never actually get to see them use there powers in a realistic way. like yeah shepard smacked him out, but grunt also jumped in to a shuttle and basically knocked it out of the sky. their strength is never really displayed in any great way due to the limitations of the games engine. where as in the Halo world we are able to physically see more of how the Brutes actually operate and conduct themselves and their physiology

@@cpob2013 That is incredibly wrong. The Geth aren't that big of a threat compared to some of the shit in Halo, the Covenant would make relatively short work of them, and the UNSC's smart AI would effectively delete them when it comes to a cyberspace battle. Cortana, for example, was able to master how forerunner structures work pretty damn quickly while the Geth were tricked by a different AI. The UNSC and Covenant ships are also pretty massive compared to anything in Mass Effect. Some medium ships are a kilometre on average, their largest being close to six or more, while the Covenant is close to ten. Meanwhile, the largest ships in the Alliance and Turian navy's is only one kilometre. Some things in Mass Effect outclass Halo, but it would never win against the other stuff in Halo.

I’d have to say that this is relatively accurate. Armored and armed, even a normal, non biotic Krogan I think would be more than a match for a Brute Chieftan. I’d put them on par with a Spartan II, and we know that Spartan II’s can kill a Brute. Grunt would be a perfect example of this. Especially since we seen him tackle and take down multiple Ravagers on his own. If Grunt is comparable to a very angry and scaly Spartan, then you don’t need biotics to kill a Brute. Just a really big gun and a lot of ammo.

The mentality and capabilities of the Brutes makes this roughly equivalent to Krogan vs Yahg. The Krogan are known for treating combat like an art or science, so I don't think the Brutes' brute force would really be as effective as you make it sound. Would it be a hell of a challenge? Yeah. Did Grunt deal with worse and survive it in Mass Effect 3? Probably. Not to mention the fact that the Krogan healing factor seems to only get better and faster with age. I think, in the unarmed and unarmored fight, it largely would be decided by how much experience the Krogan has. One like Drack would probably not have much of an issue really, seeing as a Krogan at such an old age has basically fought everything there is to fight, while a younger, less experienced Krogan would probably lose. Another point for Krogan resiliency: blood rage. It amplifies what the Krogan are capable of and, according to lore, has had cases where the Krogan fight beyond even brain death. I second the ones saying Turians vs Elites. It'd be interesting to see the thinking and outcomes

Well they have a gun that was designed to hunt Thersher Maws as one of their preferred weapons (I forget its name). Thersher Maws are 30 Meter long, Acid Spitting, sand worm with naturally Ballistic resistant armor plating on top of a thick leathery hide. It’s worth noting that in order for a Krogan to become an adult in their culture, they must fight and kill a Thersher maw in an arena. At times they are allowed a partner to assist, but the most Notable Krogan are the ones that killed their thresher maw in single combat. Like Wrex.

Skaianet the killing of a man isnt necessary merely completing the trials, and sure but it doesn't one shot the maws ite just a strong shotgun, with piss poor range, the unsc shotgun is stupid powerful. Also some proof on that source? The power of biptics is really varied and even then they still cant ragdoll though shields and they have to be able to hit their target.

Without biotics there is just no way a korgan can equal the raw brute (haha) strength of a brute. Even if we put them with guns a brute can tank much more fire then a krogan and let's not even get into melee weapons
@raf74hawk12

Honestly, I actually doubt the tankiness of a brute compared to a Krogan. If both are fully armed and armored, you can expect the Krogan to have shields on top of their regenerative abilities. I honestly haven't read into the physical abilities of Brutes, but I don't think that they have the insane regenerative abilities that the Krogan do (if any at all). This puts the Krogan at a huge advantage in ranged combat. Because even if the Brute is closing at full speed, it's going to be taking damage while it does it, and if the Krogan can get away for even a little while, it will be back up to fighting strength in hardly any time at all. So yeah, in a short fight, a Brute should be able to take at least the same amount of punishment if not significantly more, but if the fight drags on, the Krogan takes that hands down.

Brutes also make use of shielding themselves so they'd have a bit of a buffer if they needed to get in close to attack for whatever reason

I feel like overall though the Krogan’s shields are better than any the brutes use, considering the fact that it’s the primary form of protection in mass effect. The personal ballistic weapons used in Mass Effect are also way more powerful than those used by the UNSC, and they both take down their respective universe’s shields in close to equal time. So I feel with full armor and shields a krogan would probably come close to brutes in terms of durability

TheT7770ify Okay so lets correct everything you've just said. One, the Graal Spike Thrower a signature Krogan weapon can pierce the hull of a reinforced ship in one or two well placed shots, brute bones and armor dont stand a chance against that, brute weapons would be useless against a krogans kinetic barrier including the grav hammer, a Krogan blood rage brings them to strength comparible to a brute with twice the durability and fast regen on top of that. Krogans can bite a brutes arm in half if it comes to it. Simply, biotics only turned it from a 9/10 to a 10/10

Regardless of how we all feel (and I absolutely love Krogans) the fact is that even a fully armoured Krogan warlord, the oldest strongest most badass Krogan, can be easily picked up by one arm of a brute and thrown like it was playing fetch. So I imagine with the other arm it would peel the Krogans head off. Its like an Elephant fighting a Rhino.

Krogan blood rage, krogan healing factor etc gives edge. Shepard is a highly trained N7 operative. Him doing that to wrex is by no means easy but ME suits and human augmentation do give shepard some edge here. Not to mention odst fight brutes and chieftains at times and win. Don't see the vast majority of krogan suffering much. Got to get through their armor, thick plate skin, and regeneration capabilities. Also depends on what varient armor you give a krogan, weapons etc. Bare in mind mass effect can have full armor sets or mix match them. Anys poisoned environment they will be fine and do not need to eat for a long period of time due to their hump. They can outlast a brute, be just a strong, do have a more tactical edge over the brute and just better all over designed. Sure brutes can take down spartans via their strength yet atriox is a special brute, and more data is needed. Same for krogans too since yes turians asari and anyone can kill a krogan but weapons in mass effect fire at a faster rate, carry larger rounds, can be modified with special ammo, and other goodies. It is why in a ground fight your average soldier is better geared for armor piercing, disruptor ammo, cryo ammo, incidenary rounds, phasic, explosive, drill, and warp ammo rounds just butcher the brutes.

@@UncleMikeDrop spartan II didn't not get rag dolled quite easily Out in the open. Red team got ambushed by one super brute who was modified this being atrox. This is like saying a jackel can take down a spartan II or III on a 1v1 because the jackel took a clean headshot throught Kat's helmet in the back on reach. A krogan ain't super peak human, they are super soldiers. They do not need to eat or drink for weeks, they have mutiple organs like a space marine, can land on hazard planets and be fine, they have access to better weapons, ammo and such. Melee combat due to me3 lore omni tools of military grade line have blade systems and other fun goodies for the krogans to use. Plus once a krogan goes into blood rage they do not become savage like monster like brutes who throw down their weapons in the heat of the moment. Sure a young krogan undergoing "coming of age" will not have proper control but once he does his blood rage is control. Meaning all sense are henanced. And krogan lifespans are 1,000 years on average. Just most of them die early do to fighting a lot.

Mars Bars I've seen this, and it almost always goes for the Elite. The reason why is because most tactics the Predator uses Elites are familiar with, but the main reason most bring up is the fact that the Predator has heat vision. Why is this a problem and not a perk? Because most Covenant weaponry uses plasma, which would appear as a massive white flash in heat vision. As soon as the Elite opens fire or uses any plasma based weaponry the Predator is blind.

Without biotics it's tough to decide, but the main factor if they Brutes would be allowed covenant energy weapons and tech. If allowed covenant tech Brutes could possibly win, but would be long battle of attrition. This is because energy barriers can block a lot of things, but will be taken down with enough firepower demonstrate by various UNSC weapons, especially the sniper which can take out shields in 1-2 shots depending on placement. Even if they break through like he stated the armor itself and general brute hardiness can still be a bullet sponge. If you take away the covenant tech then brute weaponry is pretty bad. I mean you have the brute shot which is basically a grenade launcher with a blade attached, the mauler which is basically a shotgun pistol with a bayonet, the type 25 carbine aka " the spiker" which is kinda like a railgun but shoots spikes instead, and the gravity hammer. Without energy weapons they would lose I think. My main reasoning is that ME tech is heavy kinetic weaponry and defense, the kinetic barriers(KB) should be able to withstand most brute weaponry besides the gravity hammer, considering kinetic shields are able to block hyper velocity rounds, explosions, plasma( incinerate is basically a plasma blast I think), particle weaponry( collector weapons). Not to mention I think KB would be able to block some plasma damage, they can stop plasma but not the heat so they would still get burned heavily, but krogan armor and regeneration could nullify that. As mentioned by others Krogans live a long time, so the average krogan would have more combat experience as well. If we stick to krogan weaponry then they would be pretty effective against brutes I think if you take the graal spike thrower which is used to hunt thresher maws, you know those giant acid spitting 30 meter long worm monsters by shooting oversized flechettes at hyper velocity meant to pierce thresher hide and create deep wound channels leading to massive blood loss. Also the standard krogan battle hammers which are basically smaller gravity hammers, but if you take away the biotic variant there is still the tech war hammer which as more damage. In conclusion I think a krogan battlemaster could beat a brute chieftain due to combat experience, krogan physiology, and specialized mass effect kinetic barriers which renders most of the brute chieftains weapons useless without a lot of sustained fire( which a krogan battlemaster wouldn't allow), and ME krogan brutal weapons. Even if brutes were allowed covenant tech I think that krogan physiology and ME KB's can stop most of it and then it's just a battle of attrition in which krogans can regenerate over time when brutes can't, even with brute bullet sponge capabilities krogan weapons are meant to bleed enemies out and since brutes can't naturally stop bleeding like krogans can they will eventually lose.

seriously, in lore blood rage surpasses destruction of the brain and will keep thrashing limbs until total somatic death. if a krogan bit a brute's arm, then the brute somehow impaled the krogan's face, it would keep gnawing until the arm came off not to mention the durability and healing of a krogan
@Dramatic_Gaming
@Dramatic_Gaming 6 лет назад
My money is on the krogan, hands down. They are a lot stronger physically than I think you give them credit for, as well as their blood rage increasing their strength and durability in combat. The recoil of their trademark Claymore shotgun is stated to be enough to shatter a human's arm, yet they have zero issues using it. Not to mention that biotics completely break the encounter in favor of the krogan. But to cap it all off, krogans evolved fighting bigger stuff than them. They are explicitly stated to be a *prey species* on their homeworld of Tuchanka, so their entire philosophy in combat was developed with hitting things bigger than them as hard as possible.

Dramatic_Gaming A Brute's Gravity Hammer is literally manipulating gravity to increase the strike power and decimate whatever it hits. It has been noted to do serious damage to a tank, which implies that it is strong enough to at least injure an armored opponent
@Dramatic_Gaming
@Dramatic_Gaming 6 лет назад
Sidonex 5176 The reason I pointed out krogans evolved fighting larger things is because all their weapons have been designed for that purpose. The Claymore makes the UNSC's M90 shotgun look like a toy in comparison, and even Brutes can't take more than a few shots from that. And then you also have the Graal Spike Thrower, which is a massive flechette gun specifically meant to rip apart flesh and cause severe wounds. And while krogans in general having biotics is rare, most battlemasters do have them purely because they provide such an advantage in combat. In a society where might makes right, the strongest individuals will naturally rise to the top. Battlemasters also weild biotic-powered hammers comparable to a Brute's Gravity Hammer.

john smith I feel like brute lore may have fluctuated over the years as during my halo experience I've never seen a brute stand that tall or feel that heavy. Also I think the point that was made about the krogan not being durable enough to withstand a brute implies that eckharts thinks that a krogan would simply not fight back, the brute is clearly a mammal and thus will have a softer exterior and will rely heavily on it's internal organs and muscle tissue to remain competent. I think whatever damage the krogan can push through either from blunt force trauma through the use of its head bone or the force that it's legs can exert would be a deciding factor in the fight. I doubt the krogan would get pummelled about and even if it did I think it would just laugh

Actually you have that backwards. The Krogans with their insane breeding would lose in attrition because they'd have more warriors to feed arm and ship off. That along with the fact that in Mass Effect they have no real FTL and need the Relay's means that in space the brutes can out maneuver them greatly. The Brutes also have plasma weapons which literally only the Geth kind of have in mass effect and we already know how devastating that shit is even on a minor scale so bump it up to fucking 150)% with the brute plasma rifle and you've got a monster to deal with. A single brute being vastly stronger and having shields that can block both projectiles and plasma attacks which the races in ME don't have and you've got brutes knocking down starving Krogans left and right as their ships warp in from out of nowhere glassing their planets.

"Their insane breeding would lose in attrition because..." Is that why they were winning the Krogan Rebellions to the point where the Council races had to sterilise 99.9% of the whole race just to beat them? Also, Krogan can basically eat anything so starvation's not a problem for them, at least not a great one. Arming them for a war wasn't much of a problem either if I remember their lore correctly, even pre-genophage. "Having shields that can block both projectiles and plasma attacks which the races in ME don't have..." You just said the Geth had plasma weapons, so which is it? Also, I'm fairly certain that the Krogan have shields, too. :D

To be fair, this was Commander Shepherd that smacked Wrex down. The best example of how strong Krogans can actually be is most likely in Mass Effect 2, where you're trying to save warlord Okeer. One of his clone troopers lifted a massive piece of ship debris to clear the way for Shepherd. Visually, it was pretty impressive, since the Krogan looked like an ant lifting something ten times larger than itself.
