I was pentecostal for 30 years. Ive been Orthodox for the last 5 years. Jonathon Pageau's stuff helped me a lot. Also, Father Stephen De Young's podcasts, "Lord of Spirits" and "The Whole Counsel of God"
I am currently entering my third year of university, taking Philosophy at a private Christian university. While there’s much that I have learned during my time here, and while I am deeply drawn to the interconnected Christian social community that is possible in a place like this, I have gradually come to find that our philosophy professors and I do not speak the same language. I am a Pegeau guy, I’ve connected well with all things Jordan Peterson. Phenomenological. They are more scholastic and analytic, all about Plantinga and Charles Taylor. It is encouraging to hear Pegeau identify and describe his disconnect, here, with that type of thinking. I have been beaten down, during my first two years, because I speak and nobody understands. Philosophy professors least of all. Truly, thinking occurs in modes, and constructive dialogue requires shared approach and terms. I am aware that my approach differs from that of my department, but I worry that they consider any form or approach that deviates from theirs to be dangerous and seductive.
@@DemetriosLevi It absolutely is true actually. Lol. If you don't see it then you are blind. My experience with American churches and the Russian Orthodoxy says otherwise.
@@denniszaychik8625Protestantism ranges from High Anglican to Presbyterianism and everything in-between, so it really depends on which one you’re talking about as they are all very different.
I was atheist for 20 yrs after growing up catholic. I was pulled and drawn back to Christianity a few years ago. I went to Protestant churches and was so turned off I couldn’t believe how un-awe inspiring they were. They also were HEAVILY influenced by pop culture and current times life. I ended up at a Protestant church but only because the pastor is heavily influenced by small “c” and small “o” catholic and orthodox. I really like it for those reasons. If the pastor wasn’t so good I would definitely be at an Orthodox or Catholic Church. Almost every church in my medium sized town feels like a load of BS
This sounds like aesthetic Christianity to me, like do you even know or love Jesus because you’re putting alot of blame on others for your feelings. Probably should look within yourself for your failures (you seem like someone who needs humility) versus trying to virtue signal on a RU-vid comment section.
@@McRingil I don’t think I said I based it on “feeling” I based it on what is true. I don’t believe the Catholic Church is being any more true or traditional than the Protestant church I’m going to. Also I don’t know why you might discount “feelings” I spent 20 years following science, evidence and facts. It didn’t lead me anywhere but to depression and anxiety. I wasn’t allowing myself to feel for decades because what does it matter if nothing matters. I don’t go back to the Catholic Church I grew up in because it seems to be the same as it was when I was young. I didn’t have a great experience with the leadership in that church in a very small town. And the pastor of my church who has a phd is liturgical studies helped save me. So with a discerning ear, I listen to his wisdom and guidance. I’ve grown more in 1 year in this church than I had in 18 years in the Catholic Church. I appreciate the comment though. I may be totally off on all of this and possibly should be back at the Catholic Church.
@@RockerfellerRothchild1776 How so? Would you deny that 1+1=2? Would you deny that you have conscious experience? Would you deny that logic has a place in reality? To come at it from a more spiritual perspective, idolatry has its inverse - demonization. Just as the idolator thinks "if I only worship my idol, reality will be in its proper place," just as the demonizer thinks "if only I eliminate this one thing, reality will be in its proper place." Both are evil.
In my own experience I’ve gotten increasingly uninterested in Protestant apologetics on the basis that they seem to always go after the fruit of the problem but miss the presuppositions in the roots. For something like the problem of evil and yeah I can agree with arguments that suppose the greatest goods God give us require overcoming evil; hope, love, courage, forgiveness, liberty, etc. but arguing with a naturalists about that is a waste of time. At the end of the day the problem itself is one of pride, the feeling of entitlement and ownership to feel above anything you don’t feel above. God’s Being is infinite intelligence and you think because you’ve begun to have reason and come across witticisms that makes you superior to infinite Reason? And when confronted God will be astounded by arguments he’s never seen before? Relinquishing that pathetic pride “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the Earth?” Is as sufficient an answer as it gets. I don’t feel the need to arguing with those consumed by pride, that would be prideful.
God never answers Job but simply 'is'. I used to be confounded by a friend who always answered 'it is what it is'. Like, c'mon man. You can do better than that. But then it dawned on me, what it actually states.
"The world of religion has always been a world of bullshit." Couldn't have said it better myself. Kind of a self-snitch though. You seem pretty proud and confident in dealing with bullshit, Mr. Pageau.
Jesus got his associates in life. After experiencing death he earned his bs. Moving forward he encounters his masters. For his doctorit he will heel, knowing his mother heals. He will face society with his mind.
Yeah I too feel like the Desert Fathers, John Climacus, Isaac the Syrian, Simeon the New Theologian and Seraphim of Sarov are "childish." Mate, what Christianity are you reading?
@@thelobsterking1055 well first a story...... When the numeral system was introduced into Europe....the RC declared it satanic and sorcery. That's a fact. Any catholic should be embarrassed by that. Try multiplying by Roman numerals. Math and the numeral system is Indic . Therefore God favored the Indian to give them such gifts. Second.... Sanskrit is the mother language of Greek and Latin . Next ...it's not Vedic (Hindu) culture that is the source of wokeness , communism, socialism. Hindu culture has kept traditional family values in tact ....the xtian west? Why is that? The following should enlighten you a bit.... "Why shouldn't I masturbate?" Christian : " because it's sin , you'll be tortured for eternity!" Hindu : "because it's a waste of time best spent on family and social duty. It drains you of vital energy It also distracts you from God" Also the reason christians and Jews and Muslims rarely debate Hindu scholars ......is because Vedic culture is older by thousands of years and literally witnessed the birth of Abrahamic culture and knows all it's little dirty secrests .
