Everybody's looking at Tina and listening to Raya. Meanwhile Big Boy Paul Cartwright on the Electric Violin is snatching people's souls with that sound.
Now consider that when Bear McCreary became the primary composer on BSG he was 25 years old. That's crazy. I love his driving percussion-heavy soundtrack for BSG.
Tina Guo on the cello there. She's responsible for that epic cello you hear when Wonder Woman pops up from behind her shield in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Shivers every damn time.
I was curious who played that cello because it was beautiful. Tina Guo, honestly, made this song more powerful with her performance. In the end this whole song was exceptional because of individual talents and skills. I love everything about it.
It's based on the Gayathri mantra, believed to be the world's oldest recorded song. Estimated to be between 5000 and 7000 years old, possibly based on even older sources.
@@TruthWiz 😆👍🏻 and agreed. I saw that tour in SF and at the Greek. Totally blew me away. One of the best concerts I’ve been to. Can’t wait for their return.
They should go on a wold tour with that soundtrack one day, seriously. I cannot think about better, more intersting, intriguing music I ever heard. Bear McCreary is a frakking genius.
"There are those who believe...that life here began out there, far across the Universe...with tribes of humans...who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians...or the Toltecs...or the Mayans."
For anyone who is still confused, this is a rather interesting rendition of the Hindu mantra the 'Gayatri Mantra'. It is sung in the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit (like the equivalent of Latin since it is now an almost extinct language). This version of the song has the same lyrics although it is sung in a different tune or melody... Just RU-vid 'Gayatri Mantra' and there's a version with over 13 million views, I always go back to that one just to compare the changes - it's rather cool :P
love the vocals - don't understand the words, but that is irrelevant - sooooo haunting -- my FAVORITE though is the lady on the electric cello --- AMAZING! 😍😍🥰🙂 ---- her playstyle reminds me of Apocalyptica
So passionate! How sad to think that a decade or two from now this too shall be forgotten, unknown, unappreciated- like Scott Joplin & Jelly Roll Morton today.
So amusing to see orchestra people enjoying themselves and not all so serious!! We’re in 2021 and I would pay to go see them even though the show has ended years ago!
I couldn't agree more. There are times I listen to this on a loop all day long. I don't know if you knew that what Raya Devi is singing is the Gayatri Mantra. This being one of the most important and key matras/prayers in the whole Hindu tradition. It's also sung in the opening of each Battlestar episode once they get several episodes in. I love it. Language of the soul indeed... Cheers to you.
@@TruthWizI find that mantra generally work good with electro music - Navras by Juno Reactor in Matrix Revolution, now this Apocalypse in BSG, they even have similar themes of divinity/machine
this is the actual orchestra? wow.... just wow. this is frakkin amazing. BSG has to have the most amazing soundtrack out there, thanks to bear and his compositions. he's also done a fantastic job scoring 'blood and chrome' on the web. you can hear subtle hints from bsg, especially with the young adama in the finale of the webisodes.
It's the Gayatri Mantra, a Hindi mantra from the Rigveda. The simplest translation is something along the lines of, "Let us meditate on the light of the sun (God, the creator, etc.), and may we be inspired by that light."
Word meaning: Om: The primeval sound; Bhur: the physical body/physical realm; Bhuvah: the life force/the mental realm Suvah: the soul/spiritual realm; Tat: That (God); Savitur: the Sun, Creator (source of all life); Vareñyam: adore; Bhargo: effulgence (divine light); Devasya: supreme Lord; Dhīmahi: meditate; Dhiyo: the intellect; Yo: May this light; Nah: our; Prachodayāt: illumine/inspire.
If one atom in your body didn't move when you listened to this, there's surely something seriously wrong with your musical sense! Every fracking single time I think Bear reached the top, he fracking proves me wrong by going even higher! The cello solo redefines the word "Apocalypse". Fracking Epic!
I dont know how NOT to rate this, I am in floods of tears... this is so fucking good, amazingly put together !! I would love to see this live, if only to weep pathetically before it.... astonishing.
woah all the layers and I can see those are the same people that were used to record the samples when composing the song. But they did so mostly individually, it's amazing to see them all perform together and with such harmony. You usually only see that in professional orchestras.
BSG Orchestra and Bear McCreary created outstanding soundtracks, listening them every day since I've watched the serial (I mean 2003-2009 remake ofc :) )
NorthForkFisherman I dunno, I've always thought it strange human adults could start spasming out like epileptics the moment the first note is played. Just seems like they're trying to hard. If i get really into a song might nod my head or tap my foot but full body spasms are always forced or as a result of recreational drugs.
When an artist is in 'the zone' it is very much like being on a natural high. Thus the reactions like you were on drugs. Look at many top name musicians with weird hand twitches or head tweaks.
DMacstudios Not to mention that when you really get in the groove you lose time. 20 minutes feels like 5, you get done with a song and you're like "whoa, I don't remember doing that". Those are almost always the best performance. Also sorta drug like now that I think about it. heh.
Anybody else feel like they're watching a blue man group cut? No that would be an awesome collaboration! The Energy! The rhythm and the beat and the growling, snarling strings... one of BM's best.
Its the 3rd time i see Battlestar Galactica this year im so obsessed with everything in it! Music is the 1st thing i got in love with .. Lets hope a new BSG film/series is on the way!
