❤️Jimin wrote the lyrics not only by himself, but was the only one to send his very first draft to the producers, and it was approved, so no need for a rewrite! The lie is the lie he keeps telling himself. Always in the past aiming for perfection and by doing so always questioning and second guessing himself! Although deep inside he knows better! The other lie is telling himself, as well as everyone else that everything is alright when it's not!! Jimin has grown and changed, along with the other members since then. All learning to love themselves for who & what they are flaws and all! Jimin is now able to, as his song Promise says, shine the light on himself, as well, speaking up more when things bother him and allowing himself to laugh off whenever he makes any kind of mistake, knowing now he can always perfect or improve on what ever needs to be corrected next time!!

One thing to note about this song that is super interesting (This was pointed out by another reaction channel run by classically trained musicians, so I can't take credit) is that the song itself is in minor key (usually minor notes are associated with sadness, generally just feels a bit darker/sadder/edgier) and the only time the song switches to a major key (sounds happier and brighter to our ears) is when he sings the word "lie". So the happiness of the major key is in a sense a lie as well, when taken in context with the rest of the song. I always knew there was something slightly off or ear-catching about the beginning of the chorus, and that was it :)

This is a masterpiece from Jimin's voice and the production, this is for me the best bts song in terms of music production. This specific song inspired me to start creating music too, I never regret it.

Here's info that some still aren't aware of: ❤️JIMIN, at age 11-12 started studying, performing, & competing (winning every competition), in hip hop, popping (excelled), & street dancing, while attending the renowned Just Dance Academy in Busan where he's from! He was so good that an instructor even had the high tuition fee waived at one point! This was while also attending middle school, where he loved sports, being quite athletic, joined the football team, excellent at track, great at basketball, & billiards! Jimin also, all throughout his schooling, was known as a top scholar, achieving perfect scores, especially in math & science which just always came easy to him! Jimin was even class president for 9 yrs in a row! Jimin, all throughout his schooling, was also quite good in art class, as well as calligraphy. Jimin, then also took up contemporary dance. The media, after seeing a performance of Jimin's performing at a huge Busan Festival Event, called Jimin "The rising star of Busan"!! JIMIN also studied ballet & traditional Korean dance while attending Busan High School of the Arts. Jimin still went to Just Dance Academy to take hip hop classes whenever he could because his first love has always been hip hop, even though he was now majoring in contemporary! JIMIN even had an offer to dance overseas, but declined because he also wanted to become a singer since the 2nd grade, to the dismay of one of his dance instructors who said "The world of dance was going to lose a great artist"!! So Jimin then went and auditioned for BigHit Entertainment, (company BTS is signed with), being the very last member to join, being a trainee for only a few months (which is unheard of for most Kpop idols), as opposed to the 2-3 yrs of being a trainee the other members had! But Jimin was so good that he was assigned the official title of one of the two Main Dancers, as well as Lead Vocalist. Jimin was even assigned most of the high notes since the very beginning, because even without all that training in the beginning, he was that good, a natural born singer who, just like his dancing makes you feel every emotion and feeling he's trying to convey! JIMIN, also, for 8 yrs, since a quite young boy, trained in various forms (4), of martial arts: Taekwondo (Blackbelt), Hapkido, Kumdo (Korean form of Kendo), & Chinese martial arts. He even won a scholarship, the only student to do so, to study more extensively in China for awhile! All the martial arts training has given JIMIN his phenomenal inner core strength, as well as his amazing flexibility, which has enabled Jimin to achieve all those breathtakingly spectacular gravity defying dance moves! JIMIN has found a way to incorporate all his various dance disciplines, as well as his extensive training in martial arts into his unique, ever so special, outstandingly amazing dancing abilities!! JIMIN, has been called 'Stage Commander', known for his amazing, so mesmerizing stage presence. Each dance move is executed flawlessly, his extensions all the way to the fingertips, his lines so clean, his fluidity, his poise & elegance, his ever so graceful moves, but yet, sharp, quick & deliberate when required! He focuses on every detail! Known for his work ethics and being a perfectionist to a fault, spending hours in the practice room, will study every move, even focusing on hands to fingertips. Even his facial expressions, or the look in his eyes! Every single detail he focuses on. Jimin tends to take in the music and interprets all the emotion & feelings, whatever it's trying to convey through his body movements as well as his vocals. JIMIN has now won the prestigious titles for 3 yrs in a row, for both KING OF KPOP, as well as also winning BEST TOP #1 DANCER IN KPOP, also 3 yrs in a row!! Jimin is also referred to as "Rookie's Bible" because all rookie idols, try to emulate & study every move he makes, trying to learn from him! Aside from all that Jimin has won other countless award, broken many records. His 5 solos have broken charting records worldwide, as well as being top seller, plus most listened to. Also breaking records for being #1 branding marketing idol, every single month for now, 3 yrs, a feat never achieved before, and still ongoing! Improvement is the main goal I strive for - everything else is a result that follows my efforts to improve.

Yes, you nailed Jimin's personality 😭 he really is fixated with growth. People mistake it for him being insecure because when people compliments him or after he performed spectacularly, he always say "oh, i have to improve and be better". But it's just Jimin being a perfectionist and always trying to improve himself. He literally praises himself when he's happy about something he did, he's not insecure. He just always strive to be better. Recently he had a Vogue interview where the interviewer told him about his solo songs breaking records in different music platforms and Jimin's reaction to that is "I don’t think I should accept it. Accepting it feels arrogant. I still have a long way to go. The only right response seems to be to say I’ll keep working hard." He's always striving to be the better version of himself. Whenever asked who is his role model, he usually say it's himself. Whenever asked if he wanna be someone else on stage, he always say "no, i want to be myself". He said his competition is only himself. Jimin is the type of person who always want growth.

I swear Lie is so flexible and a timeless masterpiece. I listened to rock covers, etc. and it sounds so great too!! Any of their songs in general are great in so many genres but Lie is just soooo perfect it's pure eargasm and the lyrics 👨‍🍳💋 Also from minor turning into major in the chorus, a true 'Lie' when he sang 'Caught in a lie' in a major tone when he's nowhere near happy, the thought he putted into creating this and his feelings of conflict he has been dealing with for so long. Jimin always blames or belittle himself even though everyone around him praises his performance, like he's not doing enough, not good enough, even though he had done an amazing job in everything, he works so hard and everyone recognizes it but himself. Just as you said, I love that everyone in BTS have found ways to love themselves specially Jimin. He might not be the one to show it compare to others members but the weight he's bearing- I just know it's been killing him everyday from the WINGS era. Jimin and J-hope are the ones you won't see slip up till they released their music. Jimin's solos are always endearing and personal and captivating... Hixtape starts with J-hope and ends with the person behind that persona. I'd give them the whole world if I could.

Lie is a masterpiece

What I love about this song is that it’s so WELL MADE. The whole song is in a minor key which usually represents sadness, but then it suddenly jumps to a major key during the chorus, the major key represents feelings of happiness, meaning that the happiness he shows in the chorus is the lie itself.

My favorite song from Jimin! You should watch the Mirrored dance practice for this song. I think it's a Bangtan Bomb. He's just so talented and his moves /choreo for this song is simply stunning!

Lie is a timeless masterpiece and it showcases Jimin's talent as a lyricist and an artist. The lyrics, Jimin's vocal delivery, the legendary live performance. The impact it had on the industry is undeniable; it has been covered countless times by trainees/idols, and is even used by trainees as an audition song when they try to get signed by companies. In the words of Korean fans - "he brought the classical modern dance/style into kpop" Jimin has set the bar so high, and keeps proving how he's the standard! This song is a good example of text painting (all the song is in minor but when he says "caught in a lie" it's in major, so the major chord is the lie itself). This song is personal to Jimin. He talks about the struggles he’s faced in this song, especially the ones regarding loving himself. RM mentioned in a live that the lyrics were written by Jimin and he was blown away by his talent, and that it's personal to Jimin himself and it talks about who is and what he feels. RM said that Jimin talked to him about not feeling good enough and was always blaming himself for every mistake in the past, basically lying to himself that he isn't doing well and generally being too hard on himself, so that was the main inspiration for that song along with him struggling with his appearance. Jimin struggled a lot with his image through the years; from finding it hard to maintain the muscular body that initially made him stand out to going to extreme and unhealthy lengths to lose weight and appear more "handsome" and "idol-like" for the fans (he went on a diet that caused him to eat only a proper meal every ten days). Nowadays Jimin is much more fluid with his appearance, he is very androgynous and dresses the way he likes with no regard towards (useless) gender rules. Both him and Jungkook often wear genderless or female-marketed apparel and Jimin is very fond of make-up and delicate accessories. Over the years, Jimin finally overcame many of the struggles that made him write this song and became an icon who shatters toxic masculinity, stereotypes and is glowing while being who he is. I think you pause too much. You get in a groove then get taken out of it. You cut during really pretty moments. You should digest the music and lyrics in bigger chunks to feel it more then say what u need to say in decent intervals.
