This man from Sherman, Texas -- probably best known as the wide-grinning rube on Hee Haw for so many years -- started a country music revolution. Or more accurately, a counter-revolution. It was called "the Bakersfield Sound," He and fellow revolutionary Merle Haggard were cranking out raw, hard-driving honky-tonk music that stood the country-pop coming out of Nashville on its head. When Buck Owens and the Buckaroos would launch into "I've got a tiger by the tails, it's plain to see...!" the packed crowds would be on their feet and headed for the dance floor.

Thank God, REAL country music! The Buckeroos were the greatest. The Carnegie Hall albumn is 45 years old and it's still the best C&W albumn on earth.

Buck’s first breakthrough hit, written by Buck and Dusty Rhodes. My best memory of Buck is from the big Capitol Records country show at the sold out Hollywood Bowl more years ago than I like to think about (1968). Buck & The Buckaroos were the grand finale act of the star studded two halves show. Part way into his third song Buck stopped the band and through the microphone, for the whole crowd to hear, calmly told the sound man to quit adjusting the volumes of the various instruments. Buck told the guy ‘this is Bakersfield style country and no the steel guitar isn’t too loud’. The crowd went wild. Must have inspired Buck because he stayed on way past the length of a normal set singing requests shouted out by fans. May we see him again where the soul of man never dies. Thanks for this post.

I was at his last show at the Crystal Palace that night and I personally thought he didn't look well , he actually looked a little grey but I thought it was the lighting and he was eating and I spoke to him , asked him to play together again. He did just that. I loved him.

Scott Mitchell I learned he almost didn't perform that night but he met a couple from Oregon that drove to Bakersfield to see Buck perform. Buck said that inspired him to get on stage one more time.

Dwight isn't as popular but he is as good as he ever was. The Country music Industry doesn't give a damn about real country music anymore, it's about something they can market and sell to the masses. You had artists like Merle Haggard, Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam and now you have people like Luke Bryan, Sam Hunt and Florida Georgia Line.

You've got me under your spell, again, Sayin' those things, again Makin' me believe that you're just mine. You've got me dreamin' those dreams, again Thinkin' those things, again, I've gotta take you back just one more time well I swore the last time that you let me down That I wouldn't see you if you came around, But I can't tell my heart what's right or wrong And I've been so lonely since you've been gone You've got me under your spell, again, Sayin' those things, again Makin' me believe that you're just mine. You've got me dreamin' those dreams, again Thinkin' those things, again, I've gotta take you back just one more time ********************** Well, everybody tells me that I'm a fool That I should've never put my faith in you And way down deep inside I guess I know it's true no one else can make me feel the way you do. You've got me under your spell, again, Sayin' those things, again Makin' me believe that you're just mine. You've got me dreamin' those dreams, again Thinkin' those things, again, I've gotta take you back just one more time.....
