As a black kid from around the corner I can say Dwight was the coolest older guy we knew. Never nasty, never racist and his momma had the best laugh and advice for young guys like us. He sid he was gonna do it and boy did he do it.
This was the revival of a more traditional sound. It was rebellion of what was mainstream in Nashville at the time that Dwight had a hit with this song. Most country hits of the time didn't sound like this.
This is honestly my first time listening to Dwight Yoakam and I can say I will definitely be listening to more of his music. I thought to myself that Austin City Limits is a great place to start. I am loving watching old live performances and some newer ones. I knew Country could be great but growing up I only heard modern pop country that I did not like. I thought to myself that I needed to explore so I did and its one of the best things I have done for my music curiosity. Im so grateful that this is available for my listening pleasure. Anyone else who is listening in 2023 you have great taste in music btw.
When I lived in Dallas, there used to be an old country radio station I would listen to and whenever a caller requested Dwight Yoakam he or she would say, "Yes...I'd like to hear some skinny pants..." They don't make em like Dwight anymore...
I saw Dwight back in the late 90's in North Charleston, South Carolina. He was over 2 hours late for the show. They played every song back to back and left.
It's 2021 and I'm watching this admiring Dwight's style, from the cool jeans, jacket, boots and texas neck tie and hat....he really looked great here. Reminds of my exact thoughts when watching my favorite bass player of all time. Ben Orr (The Cars) always looked great, had a cool style all his own. IMO two of the best dressed musicians around. They were the definition of cool!
This man was a legend his ability to create awesome country honky-tonk music he was a good actor play Doyle in sling blade with Billy Bob Thornton and a number of other movies you will be missed Dwight R.I.P 😔
Born in Detroit. Raised on Rock N Roll and Motown. Found country music much later in life. I prefer blue grass and Del Reeves, Loretta Lynn, etc much more than todays country. Love the hick-hop horseshit. I'll be using that one from now on, thanks.
I agree it sounds like shit going through a sewer pipe its for those people who like to scavenge for garbage in a open dumpster i would rather listen to nickelback
There’s plenty of country artists still around, they just aren’t on the radio much. Try Colter Wall, Sturgill Simpson, Cody Jinks is pretty good. Jamey Johnson was really big but hasn’t put out much lately.
He is one of the best ,,,,,, love this mans music,,, thousands miles from no where,,, that's my song,,, love love his version of purple rain, by Prince, he is another favorite of mine, thank God for music,, Gods another favorite of mine, Amen
@@petebradt You missed the turn for Constipated News Network, champ. They are waitin for ya to say " orange man bad " , and ya get an extra lollipop for a limited time only. Get after at , don't miss out.
I stomped many a dance floor to this hit when it first came out & I still love it. He could remake the alphabet song & turn it into a hit. The way he moved it in those yummy looking boots & jeans.......lordy wish I could go back in time!
Lyrics Girl you taught me how to hurt real bad and cry myself to sleep You showed me how this town can shatter dreams Another lesson about a naive fool that came to Babylon And found out that the pie don't taste so sweet Now it's guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Lonely, lonely streets that I call home Yeah my guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Is the only thing that keeps me hanging on There ain't no glamour in this tinseled land of lost and wasted lives And painful scars are all that's left of me Oh but thank you girl for teaching me brand new ways to be cruel If I can find my mind now, I guess I'll just leave And it's guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Lonely, lonely streets that I call home Yeah my guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Is the only thing that keeps me hanging on Oh it's guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Lonely, lonely streets that I call home Yeah my guitars, Cadillacs, hillbilly music Is the only thing that keeps me hanging on It's the only thing that keeps me hanging on It's the only thing that keeps me hanging on

@@pokerstar2004 Not so much. Go listen to Rob McNelley from Seger's last shows. He makes Drew Abbott look like duck soup. Buries Anderson in an unmarked grave.
