I'm glad to see someone else who is dealing with a novas front frame section. I want to get a Nova of my own, but I'm a bit rusty on some of the more technical stuff on these, so like I said, glad to see someone working on one of these beasts.
John, I have what looks like the same spring compressor you have, and I used it a different way that also worked pretty well. I put the threaded end inside the sprin so it was pointed up, put the spring in place in the subframe, then put a couple greased up washers on the threaded rod, dropped it down through the shock hole and threaded it into the threaded piece. Then I just screwed the rod into the lower piece and compressed the spring until I could get the lower A-arm up far enought the get the knuckle atttached. Hope I explained it so you could understand. Using this method, I only had to fish one piece out of the spring. Great video!
Thank you very much, for the very timely video... I was planning on pulling the sub frame off my '72 Nova, tomorrow... 👍👍👍 I was concerned about how to get it aligned with the body, when I put it back in, sooo, amazing timing. Thanks again, and keep up the Great Work. Allan 💪💪💪
Been working my way through your videos. They are helping me to stay motivated. I'll be coming back through to rewatch when it's my time. Thanks for posting these!
@@Shop209 I'm starting this now. 👍 I have everything off of the subframe so I figured I would pull it off and clean it up to make sure there's nothing worrisome hiding.
@@Shop209 east of Columbus in speck on the map called Geneva. Got a lot of work ahead on mine. Don't know many around me working novas to see in person so I watch your handy work. Had an exciting time getting a arms and springs out yesterday, ha.
Looking good, I just finished doing all this on my 69. I just got the new fenders and new hood on and aligned and that is a pain in the butt. Keep the videos coming.
Hey John! Glad you posted another video. We've all been busy right before summer! Thx for your advice on the long tube headers the other week, I'll be swapping the inline 6 with the 350 this weekend! Hope everything goes smoothly haha wish me luck! 😁
Great video John ! Really appreciate the way you explain things as you go ! Inner/outer longer/ shorter etc. Got my 70 out of storage end of last week and staring at it now. Lol cheers to warmer weather and cruising in a Nova ! 🍺🍺 take care bud
@@Shop209 gotta love that Georgia heat ! My ex wife is from Stone Mountain and had been down several times to visit. That kinda heat for a Maine boy is just crazy ! Lol. 70 here today and trees are budding out. And we get upper 90’s with humidity here but that Georgia heat is just different.
This was awesome, you are a one man crew! The only thing that would of made this video better is if you had a camera guy. You made that look so easy it makes me want to go and work on my junk, good job.
Man I've missed seeing you post. Are you putting drum brakes back on the front? I saw some big block heads in the background. Keep sharing man, we'll keep watching.
@@Shop209 A way around that is a contest drawing with one chance for every $5.00 they spend on merchandise bought but you would have to start selling merch first. That's the way around those pesky regulations because you're not selling lottery tickets, you're selling tee shirts, hoodies, sweat shirts, stickers and such and the contest is just a bonus for someone buying merch anyway. So even if someone doesn't win they still get a tee shirt, key chain or something they buy. But to be safe, make sure there are no contest regulations that they can come after you with. In other words call a lawyer to confirm to cover your but. Grind Hard Plumbing Company yt channel did that with a few items but I think they're in Montana so...?
Quick question. I’m new to the nova family and I curious is the 4 door sedan frame same at the 2 door nova because my frame looks it was wrecked at some point and would prefer to replace with a better one.
The steering box made me wonder if there is a mounting difference between the manual steering box, and the power steering box. Also curious why you're installing drum brakes, when disc brakes are more simple in both installation and operating. Is there a difference in radiator braces for the different years of Nova and the different engines? I've heard there is, but since you have so many of these cars, I figured I'd ask because of that knowledge.
The steering box mounts the same if it’s manual or power. The pitman arm is specific. I’m running drum breaks because when this project started I bought all new drum brake parts. Knowing that discs would be more expensive and harder to find a deal on. The radiator support did change some between engines. There’s a big block specific radiator support and also one for HD cooling on 73/74. Then the standard one and maybe another variation. Thanks!
I have my '74 Hatchback still, which was my first car. restoring it... but having a tough time finding replacement rear quarter panel's and replacement front fenders here in Alberta Canada. Would you know of any options for a Canuck in need? thx Rick
Honestly, NOS quarters are your best bet if you need the whole quarter. If you just need patches, maybe Amazon because of shipping deals. I’m not certain how bad the shipping and exchange rate hurts you guys up north.
I need to check and see if I have the spacer or not on the front bushing i installed energy suspension bushings in mine and didnt know about the spacer
I have used part of a 72 pan to patch the drivers side of a 73 trunk. From about the middle to the left side the trunk pans are pretty much the same. The right side is different because of the larger tank
