Want to install an inexpensive Cold Air Intake on your truck but don't know how to do it? Join me as I figure it out and determine if it was worth the effort. I bought this one on Amazon during their Black Friday Sale for only $30. Regularly $50 or $60. Link to Buy: www.amazon.com...

Ok did the install of the amazon cold air intake. Sounds good and feel more power. Throttle response better. Looks awesome under my hood. Thanks again for the recommendations

@floridarusticrepairs no it idles the same. Make sure everything is on correctly and tight maybe.

You should add a second battery and isolator to your 'Burb. I bought Keyline from 'Zon at about $120. Added two Red top Optimas. You need the second battery tray, but it's a fairly easy job. Works a treat, as they say. Really impressed with all the work you've done. My 2001 K2500 has over 220k miles, and is a tank. Best car I've ever owned. 8.1L and just works. Watch out for Crankcase Position Sensor issues on these babies!

Thanks! I've always wanted a K2500 with the 8.1. Just for the audacity of having a gasoline V8 of that size. When I was shopping for my Avalanche I was focused on the 2500 4x4s with the 8.1s as well but then I came across my 2004 Z71 and it was such a deal that I bought that. As my new road trip vehicle the Avalanche could use a second battery. What are the primary advantages to having it?

I think the K&N is sucking up the top heat, and the Chinese one is getting all the cool air from the bottom.

You want that bottom plate under the air filter off so it sucks in cool air from the wheel well and not the hot air of the engine the nicer ones are boxed out so it can only suck air from the fender

Hahahaha OMG!! Those marketing guys sure know how to sell stuff. I just watched you remove the true “sealed” to the outside air factory cold air intake and install that under the hot hood air intake. So now you’re getting some cool air from the fender where the true cold air intake was and also getting hot engine air mixed in. And another thing. The factory air cleaner element will provide more air flow then your stock engine will ever need. Also, the bigger the air tube the less air speed you will get and the engineers have designed that air cleaner/intake to provide the right amount of air speed with the right amount of air volume for your specific engine size. So unless you’ve made some serious engine upgrade “engine rebuild” adding a bigger cam and higher flowing heads and a intake to match. All an engine is, is an air pump and your engine was built to pull in X amount of air CFM’s and no matter how big of an air cleaner you install it won’t increase the amount of air your engine was built it take in. You can also do some computer tuning to increase horsepower I’ve seen that work but then you usually have to increase other stuff like the exhaust. I’ve seen engine computer tunes that have dramatically increased horsepower and the air cleaner was still stock. Don’t waist your money.
@floridarusticrepairs
@floridarusticrepairs Год назад
Interesting info, thanks. I always wondered why, if it was this easy to get a horsepower boost, why didn't the manufacturer just use intakes like this? Other than the noise, there doesn't seem to be a downside. My Camaro SS has a factory intake that looks like a cold air setup but the trucks don't have them. In any case, I was wary on this mod but it did surprise me. It does idle lower and it "feels" quicker with this for what that's worth. A computer tune could surely add power, especially on a 200k+ mile truck but that's not something I know much about, unfortunately.

@@floridarusticrepairs People have been trying to make their car perform better since the car came out. Before the 1960’s cars really didn’t have much for horsepower or mileage. They simply existed. If you wanted more performance you had to figure it out. There wasn’t much for aftermarket stuff back then. Then in the 1960’s more specific 1964, it was all about horsepower horsepower horsepower And man was it great!!!! Then the gas crunch of the 1970’s hit and it was all about mileage mileage mileage and horsepower dropped like a rock. We had the same engine in the 70’s that we had in the 60’s for the most part they just de-tuned and choked them down to try and get mileage. This is where aftermarket car/performance part’s really started to take off. This is where what you were trying to do come in. You pretty much need to do that kind of stuff back then. People in the 1970 were trying to unchoke what the factory did to get that 60’s performance back. Here’s a little FYI about how bad it was. 1970 350 V8 4 barrel carb had 300HP 1970 350 V8 2 barrel carb had 250HP 1970 454 LS6 had over 450HP Now let’s move forward only 2 years 1972 350 V8 4 barrel carb had only 240HP 1972 350 V8 2 barrel carb only had 165HP 1972 454 V8 only had 270HP That’s a lot of choking!!! This is when people started looking down on auto manufacturers and engineers and took it upon themselves to correct the problem. And that mentality stuck. Now let’s move into the 1980’s This is when the engineers realized they could have the best of both worlds with the use of computer controlled fuel injection. And it’s only gotten better. I had a 2019 Camaro V6 it had 335HP My GOD that’s more HP then the 350 V8’s I grew up with. The auto engineers really have it figured out today. That vehicle you were working on in the video probably has more HP then my 1972 Chevelle had after I rebuilt it. In my opinion based on what I know. The biggest bang for your buck on these modern vehicles is computer performance tunes. A buddy of mine, his son does performance tunes on performances engines and on daily drivers. He has actually been able to get more HP while at the same time improving mileage on a daily driver. Man I’m telling you, that’s where it’s at. I wouldn’t try doing a computer tune myself. Things could really get screwed up. Find someone that know what they are doing. Don’t waist your money on all that other BS. Sorry this got a little long. Hope this helps

@@einstein3509 Agreed. I think what could really use a computer tune is my 2012 Camaro SS. The original owner put long tube headers on it and a Z28 intake but as far as I know did not tune it for that. It's fast as it is, but I think it could be faster if tuned specifically for those mods. Yes, I know all about how bad performance got during the 1970's. Dreadful and the cars smelled like rotten eggs with those early catalytic converters. I had a 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1 in 1984. It was rusty and beat but crazy fast. there was nothing like it until the Buick GNs of '86 and '87. Then slowly cars and trucks began to get their horsepower and torque back.
@einstein3509
@einstein3509 Год назад
@@floridarusticrepairs Oh yeah. I bet a performance tune on your Camaro would liven that up even more. I always wanted one of those newer Camaro SS’s or a Mustang GT. I had a Camaro LT V6 for a little while but had to trade it off on a pickup. More useful I guess. Those new vehicles are Just way out of my price range anymore and too damn expensive for Insurance and I have a clean driving record!!! I look and dream that’s about all I can afford to do with the newer cars I have a 1971 Chevelle now and it about broke me restoring it and it’s still needs a little more work. But the insurance is cheap on it.

This filter tube (see Amazon link in description) was a correct fit for the intake on my 2001 Chevy 5.3. I would think if your truck is 6" and you downgrade it to 4" it would cause airflow restrictions. What vehicle are you looking to put this on?
