Because of videos like this, I rarely watch tv anymore. I'm amazed one man can get the production quality that a whole crew can not get. Truly awesome!

I strongly agree with the attitude on fire. So many "bushmen" talk down to anyone that doesn't use sticks for every single fire. As I say: it's great to have those skills and practice them, but you don't also have to depend solely on them. Sometimes it's nice to just make a quick fire and then chill out.

You should include the setup and breakdown of your camps when you do video's I'm always wondering how long most gear takes to setup and breakdown, even if you did it in fast foreword and just put up a time on the screen when it slowed down to normal again..... that would be super helpful. I'm a big fan. Love the camping videos !

Seeing your breath fog was a really good indicator of the quality of the tent, we could see the tent warm up.

Great video, Luke! You had us laughing to the point of tears with your comment, "If you are a frequent pee'er. some people are, the older you get..." Just one addition in regards to keeping your water bottle inside your sleeping bag at night. Make sure the bottle doesn't leak or better yet, place it inside a water proof bag so as not to tempt fate. There is nothing worst then being woken up to a wet sleeping bag.

I wound up picking up a pack of those mylar emergency blankets (works out to around a buck a piece) for winter camping. Putting one beneath your sleeping bag, or wrapping yourself in it in your sleeping bag can make zero degree temperatures almost too warm. I love these "go out there and try stuff out" kinds of videos.

Luke great video my friend, i can't afford Mountain House but u got my thumbs up, so i just buy Knorr Sidekicks meals and Betty Crocker mashed potatoes, i call them Smashed potatoes lol, that u just add water too, it's yummy :P I really enjoyed this camp out, I always look forward to your camp story, thx again, a TeePee type Structure would be an added plus at your camp site for very windy nights :) Luke I have a funny story to tell you, my friend years back(a rookie at camping at the time) we both did a camp out and built a teepee together, we had a nice small campfire going inside the teepee, things seem toasty warm as i dozed off as i was beat from the long hike in, all of a sudden this loud alarm blasted in my ears with-in the teepee, i woke up said wtf to this deafening sound, my friend said loudly it's just the smoke alarm, i yelled over the alarm why u bring that for as I grabbed the dam thing and tossed it out the teepee, then as the alarm died, i said u realize a campfire gives off lots of smoke? he said sorry, somehow i felt bad. think thats a first, someone bringing a smoke alarm camping, think my friend was worried about our safety as he never really camped out before, i still feel bad for the way i reacted to this day. but he scared the crap out of me. Like who brings a smoke alarm camping :P

another good tip for staying warm is make sure you go to bed full and keep a snack like a candy bar around for if you wake up in the night. fuel for your body to keep you warm. just make sure the food doesn't freeze!

Wow !!! Good job. I don't know how you do it, enjoying cold like that. I am from Ottawa, Canada and hate the cold. We have it that cold here quite often, and yes it will give you frostbite within minutes and kill you as fast if you are not carefull and prepared. Strengh and honour to you and lots of respect !!!
@SWAMPHUNTER644

If you know someone who has sleep apnea and can get an old CPAP mask from them that covers your mouth and nose, you can wear it inside the sleeping bag and route the large size long air hose outside the bag to exhaust moisture. This lets you get maximum warmth from the bag without adding moisture inside it. If you have enough hose you could route the moisture outside the tent. Some masks have a vent close to the mask but you can tape it off. If you are not getting enough air or feel claustrophobic, it will not work. Don't suffocate.

When I do winter camping for both my channel and in the military I always use the hand warmers myself and throw a handful of them into the sleeping bag and try to position the bag to where me feet is going slightly downhill. The hand warmers heat will circulate up hill and warm the whole sleeping bag. Nice video

I loved how the tent hardly moved in all that wind and weather. When you said "Scorpion 3" I looked it up on Google. Turns up you can get this tent from the Walmart Website and make monthly payments through a company called "Affirm." I don't know the ins and outs of that situation. I just thought that it was interesting. So I put it into the comments.

Dude...this is one of my FAVORITE RU-vid Channels, probably because I do a lot of Backpacking like you do. My background is 15 years Military/25 years LEO SWAT Operator our team had expertise in woodland operations and mantracking. I am not a sandal/yoga tight wearing vegan tree hugging backpacker. My equipment choices lean toward Military "Type" equipment...even though I have been changing to lightweight Kit lately. We have probably hiked some of the same area's (I was stationed in Virginia for 2 years and did 60 miles of the Virginia AT) and I have done 60 miles or so GA to NOC on the AT. I wish I could get you down here on the Pinhoti Trail...it is a lot like the AT with NO TRAFFIC!!!!
@umac76
@umac76 7 лет назад
Request: could you list the equipment used in the video outside of the video under the published banner? I often want to know the name of a piece of kit that I didn't catch or forgot without having to search the video for it. You make very high quality videos that I really enjoy. Keep feeding the good wolf.

Luke, What a great video....when my gear was stolen I watched you and, reallybigmonkey1, living survival, and survival on purpose for suggestion on replacing my gear with limited expense. I have purchased the schf52 knife, a decent backpack but based on another video you did on the Scorpion three tent. I too have tested it out in storm conditions (high winds, cold temps and freezing rain) and your'e right. This thing is a beast and I got it at a decent price. I was very happy with this tent and look forward to my next outing. I too carry Mountain house meals for quick, easy and tasty meal in bad weather. I have also replaced my solar charger and am looking at the sun jack light stick for my next purchase. I look forward to your next video...say hi to the family. By the way I was part of the Super Carrier Video. I was stationed on two carriers in my career and worked for Northrop Grumman Newport News Shipbuilding....Take Care Ken T
