That is a GEN 3 block, it has no AFM/DoD valley plate. Those are knock sensors in the valley plate you have. No need to worry about swapping those parts at all. Also the dead give away was the computer, that's a P01/P59 computer and the fact that it's an aluminum block means P59. Also the intake is the old 99-07 style.

Lol I saw the ecu like right away, then the intake, then the knock sensors. Looks like a trailblazer engine with that oil pan and power steering. Hope you didn't pay gen 4 price for it! Lol

wearing gloves is so important while working on cars my dad was diagnosed with cancer and his doctors said it was purely environmental.... (working on MOTORS/cars with no gloves, skin absorbing oil kinda stuff) no need to make fun of anyone for trying to take care of their body

Careful knuckle breakers! Wearing gloves is wise there are all sorts of benzine product in a car that are causing cancer. My hand have serious eczema because of years of not wearing gloves. So good on ya bro!

Wearing gloves is also added conveniance. The moment your hands are covered in dirt and grease you will have to scratch an itch or use the bathroom and peeling off gloves is quicker and easier than washing your hands.

Agreed. The best thing I ever did, was get a set of Mechanix gloves, nitrile gloves, and appropriate respirator and ear protection. Transmission fluid is a pain in the ass to get out of gloves too, just FYI.

I love the ls engine some 243 heads and a ls6 intake and your making reliable power. I wana warn you though you have to heat up the exhaust manifold bolts before removing them I mean if your keeping the stock heads anyway. An also you can go big on a comp cam when you can put a ls3 cam in it and it’s functional unless you want that big big lope then the lunati voodoo cam is the way to go

The l33's already come with 799 heads as far as I know. Mine came with the 799 heads, corvette valve springs, and an ls6 cam, so I'm kinda happy with it.

Dude slap a 228R cam from Texas speed you will not regret it best choice I did on my old 4.8 really wakes up the motor or if you go with boost get the bald eagle cam same one on Leroy the savage best part about the 228 they offer a DOD delete kit

I use ziplock bags and either ziptie them to the parts they came off, or store them in a box in chronological order as I take them off the car

just a heads up. early DOD 5.3s had a bunch of oil consumption promblems from carbon build up on the cylinders they deactivate. so if this is like a 07 08 ish you might want to consider new rings and cleaning up the Pistons.

You can pick up good quality military backpacks (some even for holding tools) on ebay and military surplus stores for $50-$100. The bags have tons of pockets are built to last. 10/10 would recommend.

Use the side tape measure kit for your impact with the clip on it

Make sure you pull the plugs, put some transmission fluid in all the cylinders and turn the motor over a few times to store it. Just be sure to put the plugs back in. That way you don't have any chance of rust from washing the motor. I am excited to see how this all works out. You should run a Holley efi or a aem system for the engine so you don't have any problems.

The 2007/8 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, Monte Carlo SS, Impala SS, Bonneville GXP all came with this engine. I'm sure they would have the proper accessories you would want. Also they are all FWD, perhaps the Oil pan from those versions might be better for your Miata?

I have a computer for that engine. I was using it with an '04 5.3l truck harness, don't remember what year your harness is but the only other thing you would need is the ICM to get it running on some toggles. Let me know if you need it Taylor. -Stay Blessed

It isn't a factory pcm, i bought it online but can't remember the name of the company who programed it. It has a sticker with their info on it though.
