In this educational macro episode I show you close to 50 images I took of some amazing species of the local fauna, including several jumping spiders, orb weavers & some low key shots of a very tiny caterpillar amongst others.
All of the macros were captured with the Canon 80D, The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro lens with the Nisi58mm and Raynox DCR-250 snap-on lens stacked to boost the magnification all the way up to 3X.

Great images. I'm surprised how well those adaptors work stacked. Quality is comparable to a decent macro lens. I use Raynox already, but now I'm definitely getting another one for more magnification. Keep up the good work!

Hey Michal, great to hear from you! I totally agree. If the lens you use these close-up lenses on is decent optically then the chance of significant degradation in IQ is reduced for sure:) Have fun shooting! Cheers

Stunning again Peter. The final stacked images - especially the side on view of the Common Drone Fly are absolutely mind blowing The detail is just incredible. Top work as always Peter 👏👏👏👏👏

Very impressive macro work Peter. Great suggestions on lens and stacking. When I first started macro work I tried to use the tubes only and it was ok, but not even close to actual macro lens. I thought I was saving a bit, but then decided to take a plunge and got Tamron 90mm, which is not a canon, but was price conscious and the lens was highly recommended at the time. It just came out, so I grabbed it. Love macro shots and enjoy capturing those. I even tried to use my macro lens on product photography or food. Pretty amazing results, but of course wildlife is the best. Thank you for sharing such impressive images. Makes me want to grab my lens and try some of those again. Have a great day.

Thanks a lot Jake. Macro can be a lot of fun for sure & easily accessible in terms of potential subjects. Also using a macro lens that can focus to infinity as well for product/food or even portrait photography makes it a versatile option. Grab that Tamron & have fun:))

More great images Peter. 😀 I can’t see the Raynox on any of our local camera web pages so that looks like an import from B and H who for some reason seem lately to have stopped selling certain products to NZ which is annoying since I’ve been a customer of theirs since 2004!! The Nisi appears to available here (not that I can see a retailer selling it) but needs the 77m adapted to the 67mm EF 100m macro . From B and H it looks about NZ$ 300 shipped , what did you pay in Aussie ?

Thanks a lot Chris! I got the Raynox DCR-250 from Amazon for less than a $100 AUD few years ago. I’ve seen the NiSi58mm for around $135 AUD. That has higher magnification ( more diopters ) than the 77mm so I wouldn’t go for that unless you wanna use it on a telephoto lens such as the 100-400 II. Cheers

I have a bridge camera and want to get into macro photography. Raynox clip-on lens is quite expensive for me ($70 + $30 for shipping). Thinking of buying a Vivitar close-up Filter set but my Bridge camera doesn't have a filter thread on the lens. Will it work if I tape the close-up filter to my lens with double-sided tape? Do I have any options? :(
