Extremely rare clip of the Buffalo Springfield (with Jim Fielder subbing on bass for Bruce Palmer) from a short lived Hollywood produced TV show called GO . This was taped on March 5, 1967 and aired on April 23, 1967.
Incredible footage of the Buffalo Springfield in their prime but unfortunately nearly ruined by the disrespectful director who felt it necessary to splice in footage of someone on a telephone over the performance footage repeatedly. This one is cool as it shows Neil playing some of the great lead guitar fills! I cleaned it up as best I could but quality is unfortunately lacking!

I’d like to imagine that the Rolling Stones were just impressed with the riff when they first came across this song.

It's more likely that Neil Young was inspired by Keith Richards riff in Satisfaction.

It's funny how all those old bands, when told to "lip-sync" their songs, made no effort to look like they were actually performing. I've seen footage of those old TV shows and the guys wink, nod, and smile into the camera when they are supposed to be singing. The Beatles were notorious for doing it.

In high school some friends and I got tickets to one of those tv shows and Creedence Clearwater were hilarious faking the lip syching. The director kept yelling "Cut" and then admonish the band to cooperate but Creedence would go right back to being way out of sych.

Incredible! I thought a color copy of this was lost forever. Do you have a pristine copy of Rock & Roll Woman from their Rhode Island TV performance?

The version of "Mr. Soul" they're miming to is the same one they mimed to on the Hollywood Palace.

Not exactly a mime. Parts are mimed and some sections I have never heard. The way it ends is not a mime.

Terrible incongruous "comedy"show biz productions like this embarrassed us back then. It was rare when a rock and roll group were allowed to play it straight. Jazz and folk music was usually spared this ridiculous treatment on TV. Pete Seeger's show was great. Ralph Gleason's jazz show was amazing. Even the BBC's variety shows weren't immune from schlock. Things improved greatly a few years later.

Where's Bruce Palmer? And who's that clown playing lead guitar 🎸?
@matthatter2849

Well when Neil was in, Bruce was out, and when Neil was out, Bruce was in. They played that revolving door all year long in 1967. Funny enough Neil missed The Monterey Pop Festival but Bruce didn't! Oh and that's Jim Fielder filling in for Bruce on bass. Jim would then become a member of Blood, Sweat, and Tears.

@@matthatter2849 Thank you for the information! I was not at Monterey Pop so I never saw Bruce Palmer there. I did see him at Fillmore West with Buffalo 🐃 Springfield. I was sitting on the floor and Neil Young walked right 👉 past me. I reached up and touched the fringe on the bottom of his jacket. Ever since then I have kept one or two fringe jackets in my closet. I always wear one whenever I go out.
