This season ist not only crazy and wild in emotions, it is one with the best story arcs but also with one of the worst and boring ones. I allways love and hate season 6 same time ^^
Well I think Sunnydale had a lot to deal with post that even than just leaving that tower up haha Remember the Mayors office was totally destroyed, the ground was literally getting sink holes everywhere.
I'm sure there are a whole bunch of code violation notices somewhere on the property, along with a slew of unpaid fines. Gotta give the owner the chance to tear it down first before the city is going to pay for that xD
I still remember the first time I saw the ad near the end of summer 2001 on the UPN for the premiere of Buffy on their network. That punch through the ground was the only teaser for the longest time in the weeks leading up to the fall premiere. Good times.
I’m not sure if anyone’s already mentioned this but back in season one when everyone’s nightmares were coming true Buffy’s nightmare was being buried alive. Poor woman got brought back into her own worst nightmare.
Yeah, Eliza said in an interview that she loved Faith but wanted to do something else, plus she didn't want to do a show that would be constantly compared to Buffy. And she still got to star in her own show with Tru Calling, followed by Dollhouse. 🙂
@@swedish_malin She said at multiple cons that she didn't see what they could have done with her character since she liked how it ended for her and how Buffy ended overall. She mentioned not seen much more they could do.
So many genre shows end up handing out resurrections like flyers making death meaningless. I've never seen a show deal with the consequences better than Buffy
Normies, Eliza Dushku declined the pitch for a Buffyverse TV series based on Faith and instead agreed to a deal to produce Tru Calling ( Oct 30, 2003 - April 21, 2005 / 2 Seasons | 23 Episodes ) . Dushku explained to IGN: "It would have been a really hard thing to do, and not that I would not have been up for a challenge, but with it coming on immediately following Buffy, I think that those would have been really big boots to fill." Tim Minear explained some of the ideas behind the aborted series: "The show was basically going to be Faith meets Kung Fu. It would have been Faith, probably on a motorcycle, crossing the earth, trying to find her place in the world." Dollhouse ( 2 Seasons | 26 Episodes ) aired on February 13, 2009 - January 29, 2010. Tim Minear was behind an idea for a Buffy spinoff in 2003 featuring Eliza Dushku as the popular antihero slayer Faith. Instead, Dushku would go on to star as the main character in the series Tru Calling. IGN asked Eliza Dushku about the Faith spinoff: IGNFF: I heard they were actually devising a Faith spin-off for you. Why did you decide not to go that route?Dushku: The idea for the Faith spin-off just kind of came up in discussion because everyone really, I think, was feeling like this show's going to end and there are all these fans who love it so much and who love these characters and so, if possible, how could we extend that? I just personally felt like... It would have been a really hard thing to do, and not that I wouldn't have been up for a challenge, but with it coming on immediately following the show, I think that those would have been really big boots to fill. I think it would have been compared to Buffy. And just in terms of me, I've played that character on and off for five years now and I've changed a lot and while the character of Faith changed when I came back because I've changed, I felt like maybe it was time to... I mean, I love Faith. She's my girl and she's been really good to me, but I kind of just wanted to try something else. Purely that, because it had nothing to do with me not trusting Joss and his team of writers, who I just think are amazing. Tim Minear and Drew Goddard, and Marti Noxon and all these people, they're so talented and it had nothing to do with me doubting that they could make this show amazing, but I just... I don't know, sometimes you have to go with your gut, and my gut was telling me that I maybe needed to try something else that was just different. Tim Minear explained some of the details about the spinoff and reasons why it did not happen:"I had come up with a pitch. Eliza was gracious, kind and wonderful, but she felt like she wanted to do something new. There is no hard feelings there. But the show was basically going to be Faith meets Kung Fu. It would have been Faith, probably on a motorcycle, crossing the earth, trying to find her place in the world. I'm sure it would get an arc at some point, but the idea of her rooted somewhere seemed wrong to me. The idea of her constantly on the move seemed right to me. Tru Calling producer Dawn Parouse later admitted uncertainty during the show's development that Eliza would choose it over the spinoff: "We weren't quite sure if we were going to get [Eliza], because there were rumors that there was going to be a Buffy spinoff for her."
Faith is a direct part of the line, so if she died, another slayer would be created. Eliza Dusku was offered a chance at a series that would continue off Buffy but decided to do a series called Tru Calling . Her Character Tru -the dead speak to her and if I remember, she can kind of time travel and stop their murder before it happens. The first episode had Hudson Leick who played Callisto on Xenia and Hercules.
Chris: in the non-HD version you wouldn’t see the crew member. The HD BtVS is formatted in the wrong frame size. Side note: In the commentary for this ep, it’s mentioned that the initial draft of the season premiere was meant to be one episode, but then the network asked that it be a two-parter, so some of the scenes were extended to fill the time. That’s probably why Buffy and Dawn are on the tower for so long.
@kevinnelson66 I'm guessing they may have seen ep 19 by now for patreon - I think Marketa in particular will have struggled with it. Will be interesting to see next week
2:30-2:33 Do they though, Rana? Considering Buffy was buried in the ground at the time you said it and was a living zombie throughout the episode, and stared deadly ahead in the episode's last shot, I'm not sure I'd agree. Everyone remember Buffy's biggest fear announced in _Nightmares_ as being buried alive? That combined with Buffy practically being the walking dead, as she was also seen as a vampire in said _Nightmares_ episode, deserves The Scoobies a sarcastic 👏👏👏👏👏 (applause). There is no point Marketa. Their just rampaging towns for fun and the hellmouth is finally on the list because they know there isn't a slayer. Like what would have happened if The Master took over in _The Wish._ The initial takeover would be about roudy-ness without a slayer, so the bad guys don't even need a plan like The Master did to get out of his underground church prison. Anya: "We need..." Xander: "Buffy." Because getting Faith out of jail would have been less problematic than resurecting the dead and would have meant facing some of their issues. Faith can face her issues and be a better person, but the Scoobies have so much trouble with that. 🙄 Asking why does a demon have a gun is the same as asking why did Darla had one in the S1 episode _Angel._ They know how destructive it can be and that's all that matters. Not all demons and vampires are smart enough to use them, or they think they can get by without them. Darla chose to in the moment while these demons add it to their destructive chaos. One of the few times Xander actually apologizes in the whole show and we see Buffy's POV of it being muffled. I'm glad the Normies were smart enough to catch the line "Anatomic incompatibilities that tend to tear up little girls" line. I've seen it go right over some people's heads, which I'll never understand. The line was meant to be that disturbing. Not meant to be a glossed over line. I still think Spike is a better babysitter here than Xander was in Dawn's first episode for opening the door and speaking to Harmony. That's what made Dawn think mouthing off (as a 13 yr. old) was OK, which unintentionally allowed Harmony an invitation. And all of that is sad considering Spike is soulless. Dr. Linda Martin would be a good idea for Buffy, as well as the rest of the main and recurring cast over the years. Pat is getting stories mixed up. They offered Eliza Dushku (the actress who plays Faith) a spinoff show after BtVS was over and she turned it down for _Tru Calling._ They never offered her BtVS, though. The scene with Buffy looking down from the structure was purposefully meant to be that way. The emotions Marketa feels about it was what the show was going for. The Normies are watching the HD version, not the SD version, if they are seeing crew-members.
No sweetie there's no such thing as curses n voodoo ...ppl that believe heavily in that are ppl that are having issues In their life, that have to detach bcoz they can't cope with the reality of their lives ..its called psychosis and anyone that does believe in all that stuff shod seek help immediately...unless its a part of ur r3l!g!0n n you've been bra@!nw@shed from birth (which is really all r3l!g!0n otherwise no one wod believe all the ridiculous things they claim lol) then ur probably too far gone
23:10 re crew in shot. After you finish Buffy, you could watch “The great tragedy of the Buffy HD remaster” The problems are much worse eg lack of colour grading that was part of the story telling. I particularly notice missing post processed shadows to hide flaws in other effects, esp. the early cgi. Apparently there are also really bad random framing changes also.
Not just that the streaming platform they use cuts out a few scenes per episode. I don't know why but they are watching a very inferior version of Buffy.
Just love how much you guys "get" the show nowadays - the conversation you had at the start was super on point and relevant and I know you're gonna enjoy seeing your questions answered over the next few episodes 👍
At this point in the series, I kind of wonder what the citizens of Sunnydale think when they see crazy stuff like this? Like they just think it’s crazy people in costume or are they aware of all the demon stuff, because he never really like acknowledge it, just like an interesting thought.
Best thing I can come up with is citizens were told it was biker thieves wearing costumes to hide their identity. They probably think they just live in a town where criminals disguise themselves to commit crimes like in an episode of Scooby Doo.
I'm with you, Pat! They shouldn't have brought Buffy back. First of all. They don't know anything for sure, they're only assuming she's in a bad place. Look at the energy that killed her. It was bright and clear, it looked like a portal to heaven. It looked NOTHING like the portal Angel went through. Secondly It said "the portal has to close with the key blood" or whatever. Ok well what if bringing Buffy back opens the portal again?? It doesn't matter the reason or the intention you have for resurrection or the manner you die in. There is a balance to life and you don't screw with that. Also on top of all that..she's already died and come back to life once... I can't imagine round 2 will do her any favours (I've watched the entire series but this was my thought process when I saw this originally)
Buffy’s gift to Dawn was to die for her to live. That’s why Buffy jumped off the tower to give her live for Dawn’s. She said her blood flows in Dawn since they used Buffy’s blood to create Dawn. You could also see it as her death would create another Slayer but for some reason they didn’t make another one (as far as we know in these last 2 episodes). You would think they would have mentioned another slayer being awakened or hearing from Giles that they’re looking for the next Slayer
No Pat..she said she’d quit if Dawn died, not that she’d quit altogether. She did hate “everything getting stripped away” by Riley leaving, her dad not showing up, her mom dying, Tara getting mind wiped, Dawn getting taken etc etc. This season is a logical continuation of the gang’s story..gotta love Buffy!! Like the speculation, but, if you don’t have faith in the writers and Joss after 5 seasons, I don’t understand..believe me, you won’t be disappointed..!
Pat, tell your family that curses are nonsense, and to ignore all that stuff. Bad things happen to people... It's not because of magic, because magic isn't real. Also, Eliza did another show called Tru Calling before Dollhouse. Only lasted 2 seasons though, and I think the second season was cut short too. I liked it when I watched it, but not sure how well it holds up.
Now they have decided to resurrect Buffy as they just could not bear it without her, but we know this will not be straight forward and have lasting repercussions. When Buffy does emerge she is of course totally disorientated and confused. Even though the Bot is torn to pieces it is still so traumatic for Dawn to see this. A great final scene back at The Tower with Dawn, there is of course a reason Buffy says 'is this hell'. Sets up a great, and very dark Season with some brilliant but disturbing episodes.
Well I think Sunnydale had a lot to deal with post that even than just leaving that tower up haha Remember the Mayors office was totally destroyed, the ground was literally getting sink holes everywhere. You know they made Amber Benson cut her hair after this episode cause they said it resembled Buffy's too much? The next episode she has a trim haha. All those fans saying Spike only did good things cause he was obsessed with Buffy, she died and he is still taking care of Dawn 🥲 Also Eliza didn't turn down continuing Buffy right now. Once the series ENDED at the end of season 7 she was asked to do a Faith spin off but she turned it down because she thought it would be big boots to fill, and she chose to do a show called Tru Calling instead. Big mistake though I do love Tru Calling
I've always wondered why there was no new slayer after Buffy died in this season. We saw her die for a few moments in season 1, and that was enough time for Kendra to become the next slayer. We also see that Kendra's death gave us Faith. So wouldn't another slayer be running around somewhere?
As someone who has watched through this season: I agree with Marketa, they had no way of knowing where she was. Angel, the only person they know who died and came back, was stuck in a hell dimension.
NGL but while I agree that this might not be the best season in terms of plot and narrative arcs, it's 100% the best season in terms of character development. Not because some characters haven't been peak in other season, but the places we GO in season 6 are just amazing, firing in all cylinders, for good and ill. Like we are going into DARK places, but it's all rooted into already existing characterization.
It makes sense that Buffy was in a hell dimension. Glory was evil. Opening that portal released monsters. So it makes sense for the Scoobies to assume Buffy jumped into a portal from a hell dimension. Of course they couldn't be certain but whatelse could they do?
I know you are way ahead by now but the crew member is in shot because of the format you are watching. Buffy was filmed in and shown in an earlier format but just like some other older shows streaming networks show them in the wider format meaning things like boom mic's and crew members are in shot. This isn't how they were originally broadcast.
"The city just left that structure up" Good point but I guess since the guy who had been running things for 100 years was blown up the city government is kind of lost. Mayor Wilkins was always on top of things. Even when he was planning to feed the towns babies in tribute to a demon he was still worrying about exposed gas lines in the sewers!
Okni want to clear something up. Buffy dying a second time will not activate a new slayer. As its already happened and cant happen again though Buffy. The line of succession now runs though Faith. Faith would be the one who has to die for a new slayer to be Activated
You’re correct Faith is the latest and current Slayer. As it stands Buffy is a Slayer but Faith is The Slayer so in order for another to be chosen Faith needs to die not Buffy
Finally made it to my favorite season of the whole series. Definitely one of the most talked about and analyzed seasons to this date. Also, the start of one of my favorite TV relationships of all time no matter how much anyone will denounce it. On a deeper emotional level, it's my personal favorite in my own opinion. Don't care what anyone says. But the Normies will probably definitely hate it. Nonetheless, I can't wait for them to go on this incredibly depressing, angry-inducing emotional wild ride. I love it. Let's go!!!!!!
Idk-- but I will defend THis season to death! I wasn’t even 18 when I watched this on tv- and it was RAw. So, if you guys are going in full to the hate train- better for you to block me. Hahaha. More on this… on- episode; Once More With Feeling.
I think it's pretty dumb that a good portion of you guys are not watching "Angel"(I'm looking at you miss Blonde🤪) since it helps build the Buffy verse even more😮😮😮😮
A couple of things. So... Buffy is back, but has PTSD. This is the most controversial season of the series. It has some of the funniest moments in the series. And a fantastic entrance -if you want to test that theory -keep watching.
Yeah that was interesting. But we know she was at least born blonde because young flash back Buffy is blonde.... so maybe she just likes the lighter color from her youth.
@stacymitchell4829 agree. I know someone who had near platinum blonde hair when young but it darkened as she got older. Being outside in the sun a lot probably affected things
