I’m a Fil-Am . Worked 40 yrs in the States. Now permanently retired in the Philippines. Traffics and waiting time doesn’t bother me. I have all the time in the world so no need to rush. One of the best decision I made in my life to retired in my home country. Stress Free and financial freedom

Question po, pano ang health insurance nyo? Lahat out of pocket? I think mga regular check up or outpatient care is affordable but anything chronic medyo madugo ata. Medicare (Advantage nor Medigap) won’t cover outside the 50 states & US territories @ 65 years old. So long term stay sa ospital like ICU baka ma wipe out si 401k or baka kapus din pension😅…baka meron kayo tips🙏🏼. Salamat po!

@@erlindajavier4148glad you pointed this out. That’s exactly why Filipinos need to think twice before considering retirement in the Philippines. This is why my parents moved back to United States when they thought they will retire and die in the PI, but having no health plan and the cost of in-patient care in the PI will wipe you out of your savings! Glorifying retirement in the PI is a no-no if you have better option for healthcare in the US!

Same here, work for over 30 years in the USA, and retire, come back home, and stay for good. I'm very grateful for the opportunity that the USA has given us. If it's not for them, I would not have done what I'm doing now. America is not the same when I first came over. Homelessness, drive-by shooting, and animosity toward asian make my easy decision to go back to my humble beginning. The Philippines is not near perfect nor could compete with the USA, but you know what.. IT'S MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES !!!

Pareho lang here in Canada and the Philippines the price of Goods at mataas na cost of living here unlike 15 years ago so i plan to retire in my beloved country Philippines around seven years from now and live simply frugally within the means of my pension. Its more fun less stress in the Philippines yun nga lang mainit i guess since my body is not anymore used sa init i have to look for a place near the beach which have sea breeze and sunshine all through out the year to have a longer happier lifespan and Good health k.

I hope you’re not making a mistake like our other kebabs yan na nag retire sa Pinas. Me & my husband were both retired & had 4 kids here in Southern California, has been living here in Cali since 1988, but it did not came to our mind to retire in Pinas & leave our 4 kids & grandkids behind. The #1 that scares us is the Medical Health. The cost is of MD visit & Hospitalization is to expensive. Well good luck to you, hoping for the best.

Hi, I just came across your vlog. Same as you me and my husband are retired nurses. I retired at 59and my husband retired at 63. Sold everything in the USA after 37 yrs there. Came home right before the pandemic. Living a very simple life in a farm and built a private resort to keep us busy and provide jobs for a few. Maintains a condo in the city when we need a break and needs a dose of city life. Travels a little and joins medical missions for Katutubos 2-3x a year. Retiring here is primarily a mind set to embrace its imperfections but those imperfections injects life to your daily activities coz it is unpredictable and sometimes provides excitement. Goodluck, have fun.

I’ve been back home since last year. I’m 49 now and never been happier. Main reason is my family. I wanna spend more time with my aging parents. Bought a property and built a house on my farm. It’s quite an adjustment but it is what it is. Wag lang maarte. Traffic affects everyone, even doctors so they get it. We own some shares in one of the hospitals in our province. Just be ready for some changes that are actually navigable. We are patient people and I guess that won’t change. Thanks for this video, super relate ako sa mga hesitations before making this big decision. More power.

I had a talk alrd wd my husband that if he is gone then im gonna be heading home. It's my only daughter left there in the US staying in our house. We end up recognizing the blessings we all have on hand. When it is time for me to retire, it will only be the Philippines. Simple and going back to basic needs. The wants are already being experienced. Here in UAE and with our stable and decent employments with multinational and government firms for the past 26 years , we are able to travel around Europe and Asia. I always tell myself, the wants are already fulfilled, and going back to Philippines, return to basic needs and further enrich spiritual relationship and faith. End of the day, this is what really matters the most. Thanks for sharing your life and thoughts. All the best.

@@wilfredonavarro4606 Hello po, after staying here for over a year na we decided not to retire sa Pinas permanently. First reason is the healthcare. Currently may 2 seniors kami kasama sa bahay 75 and 84 yrs old. Just to see the doctor’s my husband has to be in line 5:30 Am until the receptionist arrive at 8:00Am because it’s a first come first serve basis. Then after nyo pa list ang name ng patient you have to wait another 1-2 hrs depending on what’s going on example na traffic or may dinaan pa si doctor 😊. Healthcare Insurance for a year we pay $4000 sa aming dalawa ng hubby ko at yun ay hospitalization only with coverage of 1.5 mil pesos. So far wala pa po kaming apo, but my only son is getting married next year. As of now we decided just to go back and forth then pag nagka apo na at when mom needs extensive medical attention then we have to go.

But returned in 2 months because the money is gone. The comforts you get here in the US cannot be availed in the the Phils. If you get sick in the Phils is the biggest problem. Being here for over 30 years now & assimilated with the American way of life, we prefer to stay here for good. Seniors get priority in a line up, especially at Banks. They go straight to the front. Also, make sure you get your Senior Card when you turn 60 for that 32% discount (No VAT) at restaurants and services which includes Domestic flights. My wife and I stay in 2-bedroom condo in CBD in Manila so hospitals and clinics are plentiful. I've never had to wait at a hospital. We’re a lot better here emotionally and financially since we don’t have mortgage to pay monthly. Prices of commodities here are affordable. We have health insurance but for hospitalization only and that’s okay since laboratories here are affordable also. Yes, the weather is hot but I only get out of the house when I need to. Traffic is bad but I can take a motorcycle when I’m going around in my town only. Overall, I like where I am at right now.

We have been living in the US for more than 40years(we both are born and raised in the Philippines (I’m from Baguio City and my husband is from Quezon City). My husband retired from the USN(20years), during his active duty years, we lived in Hawaii, Chicago, California, Guam then came back here in Hawaii(retired). We have 2 grown sons(born and raised here in the US) and now have their own family. We recently visited Philippines last month (March) and a lot of things have changed especially where I grew up in. But I like it. We went to visit my parents they’re both 93 y.o. And very independent. We will go back “for good” and stay there in 2 years. Take care and stay safe always.

However, due to healthcare, transportation, safety and rising costs of everything, plus pollution and loud motor engines that we decided not to. We live in a community here in the US near the beach with many amenities and things to do for retirees. I’ll miss the authentic Pinoy foods, local fruits and the beaches. Unlike in the US you can bring your pension in the Phils, Canada will stop your pension if you stay more than six months in a foreign country. Like you, my children are grown ups and they have stable and good jobs/ life here in Canada. They also enjoy coming to the Phils to unwind and trelax at our beautiful beaches, sceneries and food. IMO, Philippines is now the new "Filipino dream" for US retirees especially for those who had achieved the "American dream". I've been binge watching dozens of retired international vloggers who chose the Philippines as their retired home based, they love it and had adapted to the culture , love the people and nuisances of Filipino life. I travelled 3x last year in Manila and traffic never really bothered me (I seem to get to my destination on time :) , especially if someone drives for you. With all the ride apps available, very easy to move around in the city. Philippines is the fastest growing economy, continued growth so more jobs provided, digital fintech growth, even Starlink is available there too, so faster WiFi. The CON is really the cost of healthcare and cost of city living, that's why my mom moved back to the US, she gets more benefits here in the US, now she just travels back to MNL during winter months.

Looking forward din po kami to retire in the Philippines. We’re in the early 50’s and our plan to do it is in about 5 to 7 years. We’re just waiting for our 2 sons to finish their Nursing courses and once they passed the NCLEX, that’s our time to pack up. Myself and my wife love to travel that’s why we like to retire early. We have a plan to visit all 84 provinces of the Philippines very soon. Our estimate is about 3 years to accomplish it. Praying for all of us to have a nice retirement in our home country.👍🙏

At least you have a home to live in while retired in PI. Was born in the Philippines but I've been in the USA all my life (over 5 decades) in San Francisco and now in San Diego for over 17+ years. When I retire I would like to live in the Philippines 50/50 as well. I was planning to purchase a 2 bdrm 2 bath condo in BGC but prices outpriced the US (San Fran, NY, San Diego, etc) and other countries. I think the price in BGC is the highest globally. Developers are greedy, relying on foreigners to purchase, and the condos are not worth the price at least 2/3 the price.

Unfortunately, definitely true. But why settle there when you'll just be caught in traffic all your life. Been there several times already & it doesnt fit my lifestyle at all. It would be better in the province where food is cheaper & life is more simpler.

My wife and I live in the Greenbelt area of Makati, where there's several beautiful parks and shopping areas close by. In 5 years we've never felt the need to buy a car and suffer from the traffic. Our secret? We walk everywhere! It's healthier and better for the environment. Even when we go grocery shopping, we use a wagon with big wheels to cart everything home. When we do need a car, maybe only twice per month, we use Grab or a private car service for longer trips. For example we recently took our foreign friends to Tagaytay... We went on a Wednesday...no traffic! We got there in less than 2 hours... You're retired! Your schedule is flexible and you can avoid the traffic 😊 Condos in BGC and makati are NOT the most expensive in the world... To say otherwise would be misleading...There are still lots of good deals around for large cut condos in great locations...

I cannot unsee them 😢

I agree with you on everything you said. I would never retire in the Philippines, vacation only. Health care is the number one reason why is not a good idea to move there. In American no matter if you’re poor or rich they will treat you the same way in any emergency situations, life before money, in the Philippines is money before life. It’s fun in the Philippines for vacation only, not a permanent resident. I’ve known so many people that moved there and now regret leaving the States. Now they are having a hard time trying to sell their home, the biggest complaints are heath care, poor heath care. This is my opinion only, everyone has a different opinion.

Medical insurance for elderly is costly here in PH, there are also limitations like pre existing conditions etc . Another option to look for is to buy a share to a hospital near to your location, just review the share's inclusions... it varies, there are stocks that will allow you to gain some dividends on top of the hospitalisation benefits....

Ganda po ng vlog ninyo. I have been living in the US for exactly 30 yrs now. Still I feel safe parin dito compared sa Pilipinas na I have to make sure that my wallet and cellphone is in my front pocket. Now kung local foods like karinderya or iyong wala sa mall, ayon mura yan mga P300 or $6, very affordable na. By the way sa quezon city kami nakatira kaya malapit sa SM North edsa. Iyong tahimik mong buhay sa america mapapalitan na dahil sa kamag anak mo and people around you. Unless you lived in exclusive subdivision na may kaya rin mga kapitbahay mo, pero wala din kasiguruhan. Ang gusto ko naman sa Pilipinas, magalang ang mga bata pag lumaki doon compared sa America at madaling mag negosyo and your money will last longer. But are you willing to wait in a long line like bank, government offices, LRT and dealing with crowded people?

What scares me in the USA is the mass shooting, can happen anywhere because people have so much issue with stress, kids or adults, laws are protecting the perpetrators more, imagine the looting as well as squatters rights, taxes left and right especially property taxes. Imagine having to pay 400K pesos for property taxes compared to 3k pesos yearly in the Philippines, I’m happy with a simple life not requiring a mansion 😂. The politicians so draining trashing one another always on any social media, people are so unhappy with their jobs it seem at least my co workers are. I’m in my 50s and can’t wait to experience the Philippine life of self sufficiency growing and raising my own food, travelling the many beaches or tourist spots of the Philippines as well as other countries. At the moment I continue to live a mundane life in the USA, I’m tired of vacationing in the USA, South America, I truly want to experience Philippines and if I ever get tired of Philippines I’ll just have to visit one of my fives kids in the USA, to dream indeed.

Katulad ako nasa Canada na for more than 25 years at balak ko mag retire at the age of 55 sa Pinas. At the age of 65 makakuha ako ng additional na Old age pension at mga locked in retirement savings plan ko. Sa waiting naman na sinasabi mo, I will have all the time to wait sa lahat kasi retired na ako at hindi nagmamadali. Ika nga eh, life is short, so enjoy it to the fullest.

I do not agree with this, my mom after 35 yrs in the US moved back to Cebu, she ended up at a hospital for a surgery, and the bill was astronomical - Medicare is not accepted in the Philippines, because my mom was not a saver, my brother and I had to fork out the money to pay for her hospital bill - think twice before moving...the traditional route is not a trend anymore...

Magkano po ang binayaran ninyo in dollar all and all? Dito sa America kung wala kang pambayad, they won't be able to force you to pay it. So mahirap ibenta mo lahat dito sa america at mag all in sa Pilipinas. Unless mag nenegosyo ka, which is very easy to do in the Philippines.

I agree. Avail yourself of a good health insurance in the Philippines. Also, you can claim emergency hospitalizations bill with your Medicare in US. You just have to pay the bill first. Just like in the US, you just have to plan and not just live there and pay cash for health care. Another way is to move your residency to Guam and obtain your medicare/medical. Guam medical is accepted in most Philippine hospitals.

Part time retirement is a good idea. Unless you can”t afford to live in the US. Go four months Manila and Back to US the remaining months. My experience to my other relatives uncles and friends their really enjoying their retirement there. No worry about traffic and hot weather. BUT their life cut short and thinking if they stay here maybe still live longer and alive. My uncle had a heart attack the ambulance did not make it to the hospital due to traffic. My friend also heart attack made it to a clinic but did not survived. My friend was hospitalized due to long illness did not survived with million pesos hospital bills. My other friend retired also in the Philippines. He started small piggery business by his residence. One day neighbor said you piggery smells bad and my friend comment you smell bad than my pig. My friend was murder in a week. “There is no place like home but still thinking security and health care. Those retiring without issue on health and still young but their retirement cannot afford to live in the US can try to retire back home. For me I visit Manila for four months then back to US. The next trip will be few months to other country and back to US again.

You are very eloquent, Ma'am. Me and my wife are nurses here in the UK and currently, our US visa processing is ongoing. A few years from now, magiging nurses kami sa U.S at balak din namin magretire sa pinas. Thanks a lot for the insights.

Hello Ate Gi! Excellent video and very very informative. I went to the PH for the first time with my late parents when I was 18 in the late 1980s. I can’t believe as I get close to retirement my hubby and I are seriously considering retiring there from the US. I think it’s the right move!

I’ve been living in US for 40yrs, spent more than half of my life here . Pero I prepare myself dahil I can’t afford here in Daly City. I love simple life at province where I came from Bataan. I am still working at Kaiser 21yrs as a matter of fact. I am alone kaya I have a house in the Philippines. There are pros and cons wherever you go. As long as you are happy inside and out that’s the most important thing. Good luck yo you both. I know in my heart you’re happy with your decision. God bless both of you..

My parents and siblings are all based in the US. They go back and forth in the Philippines. It is also a win win situation for them. They get to enjoy also the fruits of their labors in the US and come home for some time in the Philippines to renew ties. Our parents are in their early 80’s. Retirement is to me is an accomplishment and about time to enrich further faith in the spiritual side of life, plenty of time soon as retirement sets in. All the best
