I have a buddy that has tasked me with finding a quality windshield for his 2016 Ranger XP900 and I floated the idea of fabricating one. This video has some solid info on what that might entail. I am totally going to suggest the "positive airspace via radiator fan" idea regardless. Thanks for taking the time to make this!
Great video. I really like the electric radiator fan idea. In the summer, I just wear a motorcycle cooling vest and all good. For me, it is tough to enjoy the ride in the peak of summer with the hot air all around you. The vest allows me to lower my core temp and circulate that throughout my body so I am basically never hot. The fan idea is still great though. I may do that on a day where its not hot enough to use the cooling vest.
really like your windshield design!!! what type of glass company did you use? something like an auto glass repair/replace or some general purpose glass company?
My roll cage is 2 inches. Would I use a 2 inch pipe to mount the windshield to the roll cage or 2 1/4 inch pipe? What material was your pipe? Iron, aluminum? Thanks!
I believe I just used some fence post. Same size as roll cage, just bend it out a little. The material must be steel if your frame is steel in order to weld it.
Using laminate glass, just like a car windshield.... for safety don’t use anything else. It will break into the small pieces like a windshield and be safe. You could buy and weld on some clamps, but the hose clamp system works great.
I believe it was 1/8. You don't need anything too thick. Also I suggest getting the angle iron a little wider than the glass you choose. It allows a place for the bead of silicone to match up between it and the glass. If you have a large (wide) windshield.. like on the newer RZR, I would go with the split vent that I used. It gives more support on the bottom center of the glass so you get no flex.
