Got a 👍 from me & subbed, the mesh wire as a mount is a EXCELLENT idea not only for a safety issue but also because such is WONDERFUL as a mount because you have so many options to mount it and other stuff because of the availability of holes that you DON'T have to drill, I want to do the same on a smaller scale to put in front of my Hot Florida driven Air cooled Honda 300 , so if you don't mind I may like to connect more directly with you about my project, I'm a electrical idiot, thanks for your production

Bigger fan works better than dual fans IMO. Get the biggest you can fit either way. A roof scoop or gap like I have is key to airflow. You must pull air from top to get good flow.

I tried doing the same thing. However I have a metal roof that sets closer to the roll cage and won’t allow the fan to pull enough air to work properly. I’ve tried several ways of mounting it to create more air space but wasn’t able to come up with anything that would allow the fan to blow enough air to make it worthwhile. Glad to see yours is working though. 👍🏼

I wish you showed how you did the wiring. I ordered the exact parts you used about a year ago. I am finally about to install
@swalesutube
@swalesutube Год назад
The video does talk about how I physically ran the wiring from fan to battery. It does not cover the exact wire to terminal connections, but each speed controller may be different. The most important thing is to have a fuse and locate it at the battery. Next make sure the switch can handle the max amp draw the fan can make. The wiring will go from battery to switch to speed controller to fan. I chose a lighted switch so I know that power is cut off whenever the switch is off. Leaving the switch on with the speed controller on lowest setting can draw power but not necessarily turn the fan… so you could inadvertently run battery dead over nite. Good luck with the project.

I just recently purchased a fan for the roof of my golf cart. 12v 120watts. I purchased a PWM off of Amazon with a kill switch built in. When I hook it up and turn it on and turn the dial up it will not turn my fan at all. I hooked up my multimeter on the outlet side and it is pushing 12v out of the PWM. Fan will run straight to power just fine or with a two way switch. Any thoughts on what I am missing?

Fan depends on your space availability. I used a 14in fan, which is available at auto parts store or online. I got curved blades as I think they are quieter. The main component is the speed control which I got online. If you go to 4:51 in video it has a good picture of it. I mention the key specs you will want (PWM, 20khz and 20 amp). These controllers are available at many online stores.

How did you run the plug from the fan? Like I see the blue/black coming out of the did you use a white plug like what’s on the end to connect or did you cut and hardwire?
@swalesutube
@swalesutube 2 года назад
Cut and put new connectors on to wire to speed control/switch. Wires go from there to battery with a fuse just before the battery.
@martythornton604
@martythornton604 Год назад
I'm installing a similar system but the speed controller comes with a very small on/off switch wired in with extremely light gauge wire. I want to install a better rocker switch in the dash but keep the controller mounted to the roof. Can I bypass this switch altogether and tie it into the power source or do I need to use the same light gauge wire from the existing switch wire?
@swalesutube
@swalesutube Год назад
Probably either will work. I would turn the small included switch on and use a separate power switch. That way you know you cut power to the speed controller and fan when you turn it off. Will prevent a parasitic draw.
@Randomthings-im3zl
@Randomthings-im3zl 6 дней назад
So question I’d like to ask? What are your thoughts on a fan of similar size under the dash? I’m looking for dust control mostly, would that cause the pressure around the feet area to keep the dust out? Maybe not quite as harsh as the fan blowing or noise right at your face ??? What you think?
@swalesutube
@swalesutube 6 дней назад
Would be terrible for heat. Most of the heat comes from under the dash area because that’s where the radiator blow it.., and the hoses run under the floor. Plus, where does it get the fresh air? You would just be blowing dust and heat around. You MUST get fresh air from above the fan if you want it to work properly. Make sure to get the LARGEST fan you can fit, so you can run it slower rpm and the noise it not bad.

At 9:25 - When you say you fused it to the battery can you elaborate on that. What size fuse did you use? Was the fuse part of the wire or did you add it?
@swalesutube
@swalesutube 2 года назад
You should add a fuse on the wire very close to the battery. The wire should be sized to handle the amp draw of the fan and should also be based on the length of the wire. You can lookup wire size charts online. The fuse should then be sized smaller than the wire rating, so the fuse blows before the wire fails. Remember, fuses are there to protect the wiring.

@swalesutube
@swalesutube 2 года назад
I would do individual setups for many reasons. I would also be concerned that your battery and stator could handle 2 fans running at same time. That’s a lot of amps.

The video shows a detailed picture of the speed controller and the hertz rating I recommend. You can find that brand many places online... they are cheap. So I installed 2 twelve inch overhead fans but the air output is minimal, not even close to what you have. I'm not sure why.
@swalesutube
@swalesutube Год назад
Do you have a gap above fans? Mine has a gap between top of windshield and roof so air is drawn in from above fan. You can add a roof scoop as an alternative. Also bigger fan is WAY better than 2 smaller fans. Moves more air at less rpm.
@martythornton604
@martythornton604 Год назад
@@swalesutube there are 2 fans because it's a four seater, 1 front, 1 back. There is a 1 1/2" space above the panel that holds them and there seems like more air is pushed out the gap than out the fan.. It's also in a closed cab but when I tried it on the bench, the results were the same.
@swalesutube
@swalesutube Год назад
You verify fan is pushing and not pulling air? Some are reversible. What is the cfm rating of the fan? Are the blades straight or curved?
@martythornton604
@martythornton604 Год назад
@@swalesutube curved blades, switch has forward and reverse. Reverse pulls more but circulates the air more. When in forward, all the air is pushed out on the outer portion of the fan but it is not very much.
@jessefields9535
@jessefields9535 Год назад
Do you get the heat from the black roof in the summer time? I would imagine the fan pulls that heat and transfers it to you
@swalesutube
@swalesutube Год назад
Notice that my setup pulls air from a gap between the windshield and roof. This is KEY to getting good airflow and cooler air. Too many people miss this and expect bolting a fan to their roof will work well… and it does not. Add a hood scoop on the roof or do a setup like mine. You NEED fresh air coming in, not just recirculating the cab air.

Yes hot air
@swalesutube
@swalesutube 4 месяца назад
Ambient air, which is MUCH cooler than the hot air that builds up on the interior from the engine. The fan helps remove that hot air. It’s not as good as AC, but it’s a huge improvement. Try driving your car in summer with no AC and windows up, then roll windows down… you will see the difference.
