Whew, Time for a lie down! Really good video; I've been banging my head against a design/building wall for ages now, but tomorrow, I intend to re-run your video and follow along, step by step. This 13 dislikes are literally people who think that you should create a site with coding only and this is cheating. Keep up the good work! Close to info overflow. Tx, was a great vid on creating themes too. I would suggest one item to Elementor. When in responsive design and want to hide a section in Mobile design mode, the section does stays in the design - does not het hidden in design mode. I would suggest to write HIDDEN accross the section or artifact. I know it is easy to refresh the page with a mobile mockup setting to verify the design, but still when you open the page after a month you may have forgotten about the section; in design mode you'll immediately see the section is hidden.

Hi Paul - do you have any recommendations for private membership sites using elementor such as members who want to showcase their music studios and book them by looking at an availability calendar, and directly messaging other members? I think you also did a video on how to show certain information depending on whether the user is logged in or not as i want to hide contact info unless the person has logged into the site as a member? Any advice very welcome or reference to any of your other videos etc :). Thanks as always, WGM

Hey Paul, Great video! Just getting an issue when I am creating a post archive - not displaying an 'Add media' button when adding the post. I can add an image but it shows it in the post rather than as per the template styling. Any ideas. Cheers Sam.

Really great video. Curious about an issue I'm getting at 1:05:20 - after optimizing Share buttons for mobile, specifically column count... it will not display them accordingly in editing mode. Results are as intended once updated, but in the Edit Share buttons window (or when editing any other section afterward) the column count is visually locked as the mobile view count. My Desktop is set to 1 column, Tablet to 4, Mobile to 2. When editing tablet mode, it shows mobile, 2 columns in this case, or for however many else I would change mobile. Yet when I switch over to Desktop from tablet, or into Tablet from desktop, I see a brief glimpse of the 4-column layout, as if it loads correctly then displays incorrectly. I did not start the site from scratch like your tutorial did, thought I did start at the beginning and create all the pages and styles in exact order. I have seen a similar "briefly correct" symptom in other phases of this first website build of mine, so am wondering if it sounds familiar to you at all, if you may know of whatever culprit this is...

Hi. I loved how you teach in an easy way. I followed your instructions, but in the template creation section, I wanted to create a Single Post Template. (at 40:15) But under SINGLE, only, page and 404 is available. There is no option of POST in the drop down. Is there any update recently?

Hi Paul. I have learnt such a lot from your videos. Thank you. Still learning! You show text over a featured image in this video, and I am afraid that I am unable to replicate that. Has the latest update of Elementor replaced the template you used, and broken succh a feature? I tried using what I thought was the same template but it has no element on it. I have followd your video showing how to place text over a normal image ok, but thi does not seem to work over a featured image! Any help please?

Currently looking into what media management tools are available and worth investing time into. Personally, I think the WordPress devs should have invested resources into developing this type of functionality into core and not on Gutenberg. Media management is pretty painful in WP.

Thank you for these videos, I'm learning so much from you! I am using WP theme Twenty-Fifteen with Elementor as my editor and cannot get the "Read more" button to work. Is this a compatibility issue or am I doing something wrong? I get this message when I try to add the button- Note: This widget only affects themes that use `the_content` in archive pages. Would it be easier to change my theme? I appreciate any advise you can give me!

You may well benefit from using a theme that is more compatible with the likes of Elementor, something like Astra or OceanWP. If you're using Elementor Pro, building your own Archive pages should allow you to bypass that issue (although, I haven't tested this with the Twenty Fifteen theme).

I have just got Elementor Pro but I find it quite annoying. Hopefully, I will get used to it. I was trying to build a popup from a template and I couldn't select the background image to change it but it had an element over the top preventing me from selecting it. I was also changing the text to white but it was staying black even though the colour selector was changing. Thanks for the video

Just excellent! I wrote my self notes along with the video. This is perfect to understand what Elementor team suggest us to do. I hope they will let us more style options in the Default Colors and Fonts. I think there is no need for CSSHero here. You have styles in Elementor for every element. What do you think?

Elementor needs more global font and styling controls. At the moment they are very widget specific. There's a definite need to be able to apply styling to all the main font groups, headings, body, etc. Once they include that, it will reduce the need for 3rd party plugins IMO. 👍

Hi again! Well, the lie down helped - a bit! LOL I've followed along with your installation instructions, but I'm going wrong somewhere! I've got my site online, but when I try to import my Homepage text, then view the page, I get a 'sorry we can't find that' message. BUT, if I click on the 'Home' navigation button, I get the page of text! Obviously, I want whoever clicks on my site to land on the Home page WITH the welcome text. :-) If you could possibly offer advice on this, I'd really appreciate it. :-) Many thanks in advance George.

Another great tutorial Paul - thank you! 👍🏻😊 As I watch Elementor's steady move towards templating, and the ability to do away with anything more than the most barebones theme, I can't help but see a natural comparison with Oxygen coming more into focus every day. I tried to get onboard with Oxygen 1x but it was a bit too underdone at the time - but 2x is looking like a whole different creature! I've swung across to full templating with Elementor over the last couple of builds and I really enjoy it - the only thing I'm not enjoying is the underlying “code bloat”. I watched a comparison video by Louis the other day and was blown away by the depth of div nesting going on in all the mainstream page builders - up to 17 levels deep for a simple button placement. To to be honest that's what made me switch from being an early Divi adopter to Elementor in the first place. I do however have concerns about Oxygen’s longevity if he doesn't adjust his pricing upwards soon, but I just thought I'd share my thoughts and enquire about yours - I think for my next small job I might give Oxygen another try and I'll let you know how it goes. If you're used to building websites outside of WordPress or page builder, Oxygen feels very natural to work with and has a lot of interesting options. I come from hand coding or building with tools like Dreamweaver and Oxygen feels a lot more like working with those types of tools.

Haha... I built my first website in 1996 with a text editor, moved to MS Frontpage in '97 before graduating to Dreamweaver about a year later when it was still owned by Macromedia. Ahh the memories of the tough old days of hand coding HTML and CSS was barely on the horizon! 😊

The child theme is one I made, so should only contain the bare minimum files (css and functions), so future updates shouldn't pose any real issue as they are not being used for anything integral. All that information is being pulled from the parent theme.

Thanks Paul. I guess using Hello theme, keeps the website 'leaner'? I usually use Astra Pro, which has many styling features, but imagine that it also adds more 'bloat' because it duplicates some of the things that Elementor can do, Headers, Archive templates etc?

Thanks for the vid. I still don't understand why a child theme is required? As I understand it from your vid it is to keep any fowl ups off the main Hello theme. But that theme can be downloaded at anytime. So where am I missing something??

It's more about when the parent theme needs an update, making edits to the child theme means your edits will stay in place after an update as the child theme doesn't get affected by the update.

I've followed all of this so well, but still, I can't add my logo to the header!!! I don't understand. I add it ( no problem), then after it loads everything as it's supposed to, but once it's done lading, the logo doesn't show on the page it's just blank!!

Very informative video.. I wish Elementor would make it so that if you can select from various page templates (precreated). So lets say you make 3 templates for pages. In the edit page, somewhere on the right, there should be a dropdown to select which page template to apply. Right now they just have default, canvas and full..

Testing is always recommended when swapping themes. At minimum, you'll lose global styling of all elements, probably the header and footer options in OWP and any features that are OWP specific. You'll also lose the page structure for all pages as that would need rebuilding inside the EPro Theme Builder section.

But one question though: the Elementor Theme Builder (vers. 2.0.2.1556001217 - I think the latest) now offers the possibility of creating templates for POSTS and SINGLE POSTS. Would love to have seen more on the child/parent theme scenario especially since you used this setup in this video. Starting point is fine but more detailed explanation on what happens when you the site goes live, when you have updates from WP or the theme designer if you use a purchased theme etc.

Great video as usual. I wondered whether you could assist me though? I am working with Pro and OceanWP. I have saved a page as a template, but when I open the template page to use it, on the page I now have a horizontal section with the page name on the left hand side and a link on the right hand side. This section is immediately below the horizontal navigation bar. I can't work out where I can remove it. It's not on any of the other pages I have constructed previously. Cheers.

@@AndyDOHD1 all sorted for you. It's simply the page title that can be disabled on a page by page basis using the OceanWP settings on the page (or template) or you can globally disable it through the customiser and General Options > Page Title > Style > Hidden.

I Installed the Hello theme using your link and when trying to install the child theme, also using your link, I am getting the following error: "The parent theme is missing. Please install the "elementor-hello-theme-master" parent theme." Please help. Thank you!

@@traceywood2867 odd. I'd recommend trying the Child Theme Configurator plugin to create a child theme and just use the default settings. That's all that was used to create the child theme I've uploaded and works perfectly. Better yet, it's totally free. :)

Say you have 100 posts and you have 10 categories - Cars, Boats, Trains, Planes etc. now, say someone is viewing a post about a single car. On that post, the category will be displayed - Cars. If someone clicked on the category (cars) it would take them to an archive page of all posts that come under the Cars category. So your car category display page - Is your Cars Archive page. Now if every category is to be displayed the same way - you just need to make your archive page and your'e done. Whether it is cars or boats or whatever, they will all be displayed the same way. You can however make individual archive pages for each category that display a list of all the posts differently. 3 columns if cars, single column if planes, 2 column displays if trains. Hope that helps a bit.

If I create a website for a client using Elementot Pro ... does my client need their own license for Elementor Pro? If they do not need to buy a license ... can they make changes to their website in the future?

They can make changes but won’t be able to update the software any further, once the licence expires. Also they won’t get support, such as it is, from Elementor.

Thanks ... I am planning to use the free version of Elementor to create a library of starter sites for various niches but I really LOVE some of the features of the Pro version (especially the popup features to build some great landing pages) and I wanted to confirm that I won't back myself into a corner if I use Elementor Pro for some advanced (maybe premium) starter sites.

If you want a pretty much blank canvas that works well with Elementor (Pro) I would say it is a great option as long as you don't mind manually styling everything. I think that once Elementor brings out global styling it will make the combination of Elementor Pro and Hello theme the perfect option for anyone wishing to get more control over their web design. :)

If when I go to wpthemedetector(dot)com and I see the name and details of the theme that you are using, then this is NOT a custom theme.

If you know WordPress then you'll know it requires a theme to be installed regardless of whether you want to use the design or theme files. So, I'm not sure what point you're trying to make other than to argue over semantics! 🙄
