Love the videos, some of the best instructions for a steelhead newbie such as myself! I know you use the small ziplock bags to store you spinners in, have you ever heard of Cali Covers? I use them to store rigged up buzzbombs and jigs for beach fishing for salmon. Really durable and hooks won’t poke through.

Thank you, appreciate the feedback. I was not aware of the Cali Covers, but I looked them up. Cool idea, I will keep them in mind. I don’t use trebles on my spinners so they wouldn’t be necessary, plus they wouldn’t lay as flat. However, they would be great for plugs and lures with trebles. I appreciate the tip. 👍🏻

Great video! Question I have for you is…why do you use an open eye hook instead of building it with a closed hook of choice?

Thank you! The gamakatsu siwash and more lately, the VMC TECHset hooks are perfect for use with spinners and spoons. It’s not to say you can’t use your close eyed hook of choice. Good question!

Thanks for the video! What length wire did you use?
@RAGEFISHING
@RAGEFISHING 2 года назад
It’s the .031 4” pre-fabricated wire from randblureco.

Couldn’t find those round nose pliers at Bi-Mart. Where else may have them?

Here are a pair listed on Amazon, very similar to the set I have. amzn.to/3HfsrDU

Classic lure colors. I always did good with the old black and yellow dot Panther Martin with a gold blade. An all black #4 Blue fox has served me well too. I will probably be building some of these lures too. They look great. What size and brand is that hook you used? And do you favor it over a siwash? Great video BTW

These hooks are “Sickle”, they are like Gamakatsu’s “Big River” hooks due to the bends in the wire. I also like Gamakatsu Siwash Open Eye hooks. I just did a trout lures swap out video featuring these hooks, I encourage you to watch it, it has steelhead references as well. I don’t necessarily favor the Sickle style hook, it was just the hook R&B lure company used to sell on their website. I think they make their own now. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it! 👍🏻

I get most from R&B, I use Pen-Tac as well. Here are the websites; www.randblures.com/ www.pen-tac.com/

Put a split ring so you can change out the hooks easily
@RAGEFISHING
@RAGEFISHING 3 года назад
I don’t like to use split rings on my spinners, other can if they want, but I believe they cause the spinner to be too lengthy. I also think attaching them directly to the wire creates a little more leverage to increase hookups. I appreciate the comment though! 👍🏻

Clipping the tag of the wire after you wrap it is not ideal. Leaves a sharp edge. You need to check out how to break the wire. There's a video of it somewhere. Its super easy and breaks clean every time flush. Edit. Look up Spinner Dave how to break wire video.
