very nice, the whole thing only has one catch: the fire would have to run in the opposite direction

@@samuelsullins The simulation runs clockwise and the, let's call it fire sparks, are ahead of the animation - according to the rules of nature, they should run behind - or not?

wow you're so right! You'd think I'd have noticed that. Bet there's a way to fix that, probably just have to add -1 somewhere :)

Can't get it to render? Rendering is possible with the Nov 24 edition of the simulation branch. Scroll way down in the archive (here: builder.blender.org/download/experimental/archive/) hit All Builds and find the Nov 24 geometery-nodes-simulation. It gives you a Use Cache checkbox on the simulation output. Check that box, play through your scene once, then try rendering.

Why do few who teach GEOMETRY NODES tell you WHY they are picking the certain node to use. Coping is easy to do but what and why you choose the nodes you need to accomplish what your looking for. ???

Nice explanation Samuel. I'll try to produce same effect with Blender 3.5 beta, but ! :( I've not found nodes Simulation output and input. :((:((:(( I missed something ? Thank for you for answer.

Go to the Archive page with this link: builder.blender.org/download/... Then scroll down until you see a build called "geometry-nodes-simulation." Get that one.

i did the the same one with you,step by step,its awesome when i rendered a single image,the result just like the one you did,but when rendered the animations, it would become a smooth glow circle,didn't have these details

Just solved that issue! You need to get the November 24 build of the Simulation Branch. Go here: builder.blender.org/download/experimental/archive/ Scroll down to the bottom, hit "see all builds" and find the geometry-nodes-simulation branch from Nov 24. It will give you simulation nodes with a Use Cache option on the output node. Enable that, play through your scene, then try rendering. Just tried it, works!

Can you actually render this out, cause I've been getting feedback that 3.5 crashes faster and harder than a bum friend on a couch. (Ok, my old bum friend years ago, and she is now my ex-wife) I would like to add it around the center of my portal (simplified version) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-74QKHtylEe4.html Then I saw this one: blender-3.5.0-alpha+main.64f83f80c66c-windows.amd64-release.zip which was released on February 13th, 2023 which is later than this one: blender-3.5.0-alpha+universal-scene-description.363aff2ad0a2-windows.amd64-release.zip released on February 6th... It would suck to go thru setting this up in 3.5 (but way less sucky than watching over 3hrs of Caramel free associate his more complex and I guess interesting one, but I don't need something that amazing... yours is great...) and then it always crashes! Also his portal on gumroad looks like a Niagara thing, not what he made on his stream... (Unreal Engine particle system). Ok, I admit I'm jealous of Caramel, he's ridiculously good.

Yeah Cartesian Caramel is amazing at nodes. His portal beats mine in 2 ways: his has ground collision, and a more complex material. (Think the one he has on Gumroad is shader nodes, don't think he has the simulated one there yet.) To render, I have 3 things you could try: 1. Hunt down the specific build of Blender that has the cache option for Simulation Nodes. (I had this build once, but I think I deleted it by accident-haven't been able to find it since.) It might be the very first version of the simulation build. The full archive is here: builder.blender.org/download/experimental/archive/ Scroll way down to Nov 24, that's the earliest simulation build I see... 2. Bake the mesh to an Alembic file. This works pretty well, but I haven't figured out how to export the attributes with the Alembic-so the "age" needed for the material isn't there. There's probably a known way to fix this though. 3. Wait for the official simulation nodes in Blender-I'd guess version 3.6 should have them. (coming sometime around June 29-just an estimate!) Hope you find a good solution! P.S. I haven't had 3.5 crash on me yet, but I haven't been all that hard on it.

IIRC I think the guys said a dec 2022 build rendered, but then again I wish I knew "the buffer method" such that I could do the simulation nodes in 3.4... in fact the sim nodes were created to end "the buffer method" and no one on the discord servers will show me what it is, nor some content creators that said, yeah, they know what it is, but wait 3 months for 3.5 to get stable. Nty... Stay safe and enjoy

My Woodturning Simulation video demonstrates the buffer method, it might help you out. The portal could definitely be made to work using that method.

@@samuelsullins What's messed up is that I watched that a month or so ago, but I wasn't good enough with GN's to realize what was going on. I was too new to GNs to even try and work through that one. Not for nothing, but TYVM! Idc if it's not optimally performant... get it done... first fast and dirty if necessary, then slow and pretty, is my motto. If the 3.5 alpha crashes to death, and you get no render, it don't matter how much slower 3.4 is if it's the only way it works to render (!) I will do both ways, but at least I feel better with a safety net... when I'm out of specialty like now with GNs I work better with a safety net. Thanks again, you have no idea how much stress has left me...
