I find using the flys after a heavy bench session pretty nice. I just put on a lower weight, rep out 20ish and cross at the top for the extra contraction. Really feels like i put all the weight I used from the bench in to the flys - burns soo good! 😁

What better way to use them! Such a great way to ensure all the fibers of the pectoralis major are polished off nicely. Anything you would like to see us touch on in future videos?

Can this be just as effective doing it one handed? I’ve been tearing up my shoulders doing it two handed even though I am retracting my shoulders. I seem to be able to better get my shoulders out of it by doing it one handed but not sure the chest engagement is as good.
@MindPumpTV
@MindPumpTV 5 лет назад
Ed Dinep if one handed works for you, then do it. Remember, exercise is based around individual needs. I would recommend some shoulder mobility work on top of that though.
@iEbag
@iEbag 5 лет назад
But with transverse adduction your anterior deltoid isnt involved until you internally rotate. All in all, you could get the same *additional* involvement of the inner chest fibers by crossing midline minus the internal rotation.
@MindPumpTV
@MindPumpTV 5 лет назад
This is true. Medial rotation is a function of the pec major tho. There are certainly some things that a lifter could FEEL that may have a positive impact on the effectiveness of the exercise. I have always found the cable crossover to be as, if not more, effective at generating a "hard" contraction. They are often categorized separately, or as unique exercises but both variations are great.

When u stagger your stance do u keep it one way, I am right handed and would take your exact stance...and the cable height looked to be about shoulder height or a little more about. Also which would be better sitting fly or this?.

cable flys i can only do very lightweight but the pec fly weight machine i can do well over 200lb flys, why is that and which is better?
@chadsacrey6274
@chadsacrey6274 5 лет назад
Danny. When I do these on the pec fly. I like to keep arms straight because the machine helps stabilize and I actually turn the elbows up a little. So I rotate up not down. Does that sound ok. To you.
@MindPumpTV
@MindPumpTV 5 лет назад
Chad Sacrey My default answer to this is everything is specific to the individual. While conventional knowledge of mechanics would lead me to believe that medial rotation of the humerus is superior to the rotation you described, that is does not mean my way is better - FOR YOU. You find one variation more effective, that is the variation I would recommend you do. We know there are wrong movement patterns for some people that predispose them to injury, but individual tissue capacity can be so unique that some people actually find “unconventional” forms of certain movements more effective AND safe.
@chadsacrey6274
@chadsacrey6274 5 лет назад
Thanks danny for the reply. I will def look into this and try it out. On the cable flys I do as you described. I was visualizing it as bringing the elbows together not the hands. I take great value in everything mindpump as to say. It's like my fitness bible. Lol.

If I start doing chest flys my chest+shoulders hurt a lot. Even with light weight, I even have stretch marks from it. Any idea what the problem might be?
@MindPumpTV
@MindPumpTV 5 лет назад
Sounds like a pre-existing shoulder dysfunction that should be addressed by a therapist or skilled trainer. I have found that shoulder stability work can help mitigate pain when doing adduction like that, but best to sit down with a professional. As for the stretch marks, i am unaware as to the potential causes of this and if there is any relation to pec fly work and the formation of said marks. Anything you would like to see us touch on in future videos?

Useless exercise. The weighted dip, Barbell bench Press and Standing overhead barbell strict or push press is all you need for complete chest development. These videos should be illegal.
@MindPumpTV
@MindPumpTV 5 лет назад
Will Forsythe Speaking in absolutes like this about things as highly individualized as exercise is a bit silly. Consider two people performing the same lifts you listed, but one adds a few sets of flys. The one who adds flys will likely have better growth. I’m all for simplicity and the lifts you lifted are great for chest development, but let’s not disparage the value of other lifts in a properly periodized/put together program for a lifter who has complete gym access.
@Gas10020
@Gas10020 5 лет назад
@@MindPumpTV "The one who adds flyes will likely have better growth". Instead of adding flyes...just do more volume on the lifts I listed that are actually effective and your chest will grow just as much if not more as well as your triceps and shoulders. I understand you are trying to make a living but people like you are doing the world a disservice by having them do worthless exercises. No natural lifter got big and strong by doing isolation movements. They got big and strong by doing compound exercises preferably heavy and preferably with a barbell as most if not all EMG studies have shown in recent years.
@TheCatseyepub
@TheCatseyepub 4 года назад
@@Gas10020 standing cable exercise ARE compound exercises,moreso than a barbell chest press. Engaging your core is fundamental on standing presses or flyes, something that does not come into play when you sit or lay down on a bench.
