I got a 2018 and I have a 5" RCD lift with Toyo Open Country R/T Trail Tires at LT295/70/17 and those are about 33.5" and I have very very light scrubbing every now and then, nothing too bad at all. Besides that, she rides smooth, and it's a manual, so that's even more fun.

I have a ‘19 Trd Off-road. I did the billstein adjustable shocks and maxed them out so I guess 3” in the front, and did a 2” ready lift block in the back to keep the stock rear billstein shocks. I did the toyo mt 285 70 R17 with a 17x9 -12 fuel vector. Just as the video says no rub on the road until you hit bumps at full turns which means definitely rubbing off road on the fenders so light trimming required. Great performing and looking setup imo!

There's another guy who did a video that debunked whether lifting made a difference for tire fitment. He said since you aren't changing the lower control arms, and because castor corrections with new upper control arms don't actually favor more tire clearance, the wheel will still travel through the same motions regardless of lift. So if the tire doesn't fit at stock height, it still won't fit with a lift in true off-road articulation scenarios. You need a cab mount chop. Your tires should be made to fit without the lift to take advantage of wheel travel clearance. Otherwise you should just stay on flat surfaces. 2", 3", 4". It makes no difference.
@robertholler7262
@robertholler7262 3 месяца назад
This is correct. The upward travel of the wheel is determined by the bump stop and not the springs. You could install a bigger bump stop which would negatively affect performance. To go bigger, ya gotta cut.

A common misconception is that more lift = bigger tires however this is not true. More lift may help clear tires at ride height but once you go off-road and compress your suspension you will still be running into clearance issues. The way to fit bigger tires is to have a forward bias alignment, and to trim for tires at full bump. If you don’t necessarily care about suspension travel extended bump stops are an option to prevent rubbing aswell

So i have a few off road rigs and one thing i wish tubers would talk about more is learn to drive off-road, i have a stock 2018 trd off-road 31" k02s on trd pro rims, and being able to drive you can handle a ton of trails, the only reason its getting lifted is for more approach angle because i bumper drag now and then and I don't like that that's my one major deciding factor between my taco and bronco 😂

Isn't anything from stock to a 3" lift (ish) not going to make a difference whether the tire rubs or not? My thought is that regardless of ride height there is still the same path the suspension will cycle through. The lift only charges ride height and the relative up/down travel. This is assuming stock UCA, shock length and wheel offset is the same for comparison purposes

This is correct. Adding caster by moving the LCA forward is really the only way to change tire clearance (to the aft wheel well liner/cab mount) on stock or spring lifted suspension. This guy doesn't have a clue how the Tacoma IFS works.

Yes, but most suspensions are progressive as they compress. So this minimizes rubbing. This assumes you are lifting by preloading your suspension. Lifting with spacers is a different story
@bradarsenault6984

@@calebsanders4353 What does the damping profile have to do with tire clearance? Progressive compression damping might reduce overall wheel travel for the same bump input (transfer more energy to the chassis toward the end of the shock stroke) vs digressive, but the tire will still rub at the same point in the suspension travel. If the suspension flexes over obstacles, especially when crawling/going slow, compression damping is irrelevant, which is where tire interference usually happens.

Yes. And it drives me crazy that so many "experts" don't seem to understand this very simple fact.

I'm gonna give my taco a 80 inch lift kit so I can put those 54 inch military big truck tires that they put on the MTVR 7 tonners

I noticed a lot of people go with 265/75R16 what will this size of tire do over a stock 245/75R16, the 265 is just a little wider correct? I'm debating between the two sizes. (Pros and cons)
@izzyrodriguez1259
@izzyrodriguez1259 6 месяцев назад
They would be both wider and taller. The 75 is basically the height of tire based on the width. With the 75 being 75% of the width.
