Zeus Master of Olympus was/still is? my favorite ancient city builder. Middle Kingdom was great as well, Might check this one out once it's good to go, thanks for reviewing.

Yes. I hope they implement gods and worshipping them too. Also temples.. maybe an option where you can create in buildings, at least the big ones. Like in Foundation

Why is it so hard for city and base builders to NOT use a gridlock system..? Why must 999/1000 always be permanently locked down like this?
@Reginald-Erasmus
@Reginald-Erasmus Год назад
nearly all modern city builders allow you to build without a grid. why do you not know this. they have a grid system because most of city builder fans use it
@huantruonginh2946

Yup i was wondering the same thing as well, aside from Ostriv and Foundation I can't recall any other gridless city builder. Wish there were more.
@SqueakySniper

Any pre-industrial city builder really should be gridless like manor lords.
@welcomelittlefellow
@welcomelittlefellow Год назад
Technically it is possible to create a gridless build system. However the question is, what makes it better and is it more fun? As I do not want to spend minutes to perfectly place my building, a grid helps me to easily place a building and not worry about if it connects properly to a road system or anything alike because I misplaced it by a few centimeters :) when creating these systems most of it boils down to ease of use and if it is fun to do.
@huantruonginh2946
@huantruonginh2946 Год назад
@@welcomelittlefellow so i guess it boils down to personal preference then, for me Ostriv is one of the most realistic and at the same time, enjoyable building experience thanks to its gridless system. Play it for yourself and you will see how much freedom and creativity such a system allows.

PHARAOH!!! I loved that game. Next was Cleopatra got to build all of the wonders and then came ancient Japan. The Greek one had an expansion too set in Atlantis. I think they were on between windows 98 and millennium edition. I remember it was an old pentium processor . Entire PC was like 500mb hard drive 128mb overclocked ram. Good times!

Was thinking the same thing. The first series was Caesar. I played i-iii. Then Pharaoh and Cleopatra. Then Zeus and it's expansion. Really great games :) Caesar iv came out later, but I spent only little time with it.

@@rolsen1304 Each game was great in it's own right. For Zeus series it was interesting how they added in the mythology. I can't remember if it was Zeus Poseidon then Atlantis. For instance one time in the quests you had to keep Hercules drunk or he would go crazy and destroy the city and I had just accidentally Dionysus mad. Took a while to get out of that one lol

I've followed Builders of Egypt since the beginning, I didn't think the other builder spinoffs were actually "real" games, most of them are usually just market research for wishlistings on steam so I am surprised Builders of Greece in "playable" state. Builders of Egypt definitely feels a little more orginal than this one though, this one could have been named Anno:400 BC. I might give try if it comes out with proper campaigns and missions, I find city builders with just a sandbox mode get stale really fast.

This doesn't strike me as interesting. Pharaoh: New Era however does look like a wonderful, polished periodic city builder. This as well as the Builders of China and Egypt ones all give me the at a glance vibe of being rather fake and half baked, and this game play substantiates that feeling. Beyond Pharaoh, Foundations looks very appealing... and I also thought Fabledom looks pretty cool. At this point there are lots of good city building options in Cities: Skylines, Anno, and other established titles - Takes a lot to truly be innovative and bring something new in the city building space.

Grid based settlement builders must be one of the most overused and antiquated mechanics that we still for some reason accept into our games. It's brutally restrictive for the players, makes every city looks ugly, and generic. Not to speak of totally ahistorical when every old city was on a wibbly wobbly layout. It's not 1995 anymore, we're not limited by computer GPUs

This is a nit pick I've been annoyed by for months now, and not just with this game.... The waterfalls in these games seem to be rather impossible. The water has to come from somewhere, and that somewhere needs to be higher ground, where it seeps into soil, so it can _steadily_ fill the spring or river the waterfall is fed by. A waterfall at the very top of a mountain... where is the water coming from? It's all rocks up there...
@neafane1986
@neafane1986 Год назад
Feels like literally all the other city builders, follows the same logic. Nothing new, just some fancy window dressing. You say it yourself, it looks like x, y, z, reminds you of such and such. So, good effort from devs, but really old style thinking and no innovation. And I so hope they get rid of the grid system at some point, it's really not natural.
@ponli7532

not the same developer, builder of Egypt is the original indie team. The other builder games are spinoffs from the publisher. Except for the name they don't really have much in common, some of those builder games might never come out that is the life is small indie developers.
