With this project we are taking chain drive to the next level and seeing how well it works with 4WD and large 32" tires. I've had great success with the chain drive setup on the CBR1000 buggy so with this project I want to build it again but this time we are making it 4WD with big 32" tires and its a two seater. we are using a T90 transmission as a transfer case to give us high/medium/low range and reverse.

10x14x18=2520cubic inches divided by 231 =10.901 gallons. - thickness of the metal and everything in there. It’s looking awesome

Then take the radius^2 (r * r) of the drilled holes and multiply by pi and again by the gauge thickness and finally by the amount of drilled holes and subtract this number from the baffling square inch sum I mentioned. Hey Chris, Keep up the great work! You really need to use an "Ball Check Valve " for you tank. They do make an "Ball-Check" vent for race car tanks that would work great! There is an check ball that seals the vent when it is upside down. Run a fuel line to an breather up higher on the frame. Summit and Speedway motors both make them. Love your work!
@bretkirschbaum985

With the angle the tank is installed, the fill port is higher than the vent port. The vent baffle is a good idea, but if you fill to the top you will cover the vent. Move it to the aft corner.

Just a safety note, an oring is probably the best way to seal the gas tank to the sending unit, but I noticed that the groove was much smaller than the oring profile. The oring was outside of the groove. Leaving it this way can lead to the oring being damaged and not sealing. The parker oring handbook can help you find the right one for the groove you have machined already. I can also help you identify the correct size one for your groove if you want some assistance. I really enjoy the content, this is a very cool project!

Awesome build. A quick note for your vent tube. Make sure you put a hose on it that follows the underside of the main whoop all the way down to below the bottom of the tank. This will make sure nothing will come out if you ever have the crazy experience of parking it on it's roof. Expect that to happen and plan for the worst.
@louisbeaver87

FYI it may be in your best interest to install a roll over to you vent to avoid fuel from spilling out.
@aeroflopper

you can buy a proper vent for the tank that allows vapour out but not liquids. When it slops about, it will pressure itself out that vent unless the fuel level is low
@ultra4suzukisamurai679

I recommend looking into Ultra4 or SCORE rules and following their guide lines for the fuel tank vent. Routing the rubber hose as they say prevents fuel from spilling in a crash or roll over. Cheap safety.

Learning how to weld aluminum is one of those things I still need to do. I think I personally would have went with at least a short neck leading to a vented cap. That vent will be spilling fuel if you go off-road with a full tank. Putting a riser on it to give the fuel a chance to flow back down before making it out might be an easy way to fix that if it becomes an issue.

Slosh/sloshing is the movement of fluid side to side in a tank and surge is the movement front to back. It’s part of the training I had to provide to new drivers carrying bulk fluid tanks and tank trailers because that movement can and will affect your drivability as well as stopping performance in ways most don’t realize. With that said it’s not a very big fuel tank but you were still wise to install baffles to reduce fluid movement as much as possible.

I just wrote this comment on one of your videos from 6 years ago and have decided to also post it now as the comment is about the difference between the channel then and the channel now. So is relevant to both times but also I really hope you're more likely to see it if I post it in the most recent video. Anyway - >>> Mate, I've been binging on your channel for a couple of weeks and obviously did the normal thing of starting at the most recent videos and working backwards through time. Anyway the difference between today 15th of May 2023 and this video 6 years ago is wider than night and day. There like 2 totally different channels that are presented by 2 different blokes who just happen to look exactly the same. The amount your knowledge of the various areas you deal with, your ability and skill level, are many, many light years different. Whilst you obviously had some natural ability with such work at the beginning and lots of determination to learn and improve whilst you worked, the ability you have now, in the latest videos and how different it is watching you as you practice the various skills, welding, fabrication, lathe turning, machining of any kind, your general mechanical knowledge, skill at working on engines, etc, etc is absolutely massive, like a totally incredible level of difference between every area in the time between the two videos. As I said it's like watching 2 different people and that's just talking about your skill level at the manual, machining, engineering, mechanical, and designing side of things. However the other changes, your presenting, your filming, editing, the look and feel of the videos has changed for the better just as much, if not more. Honestly Bro you should be very, very proud of the channel you now present and run. At how much you've improved and created something of a high level of talent, ability and entertainment. Possibly the biggest difference though, despite all I've already mentioned is how 6 and more years ago, the amount you used to waffle and go over the same topic, sort of getting self conscious and feeling out of place and not knowledgeable enough to really be doing, saying what you're doing or saying, compared to what you're like now. You can see and hear the confidence in both what you're saying and what it is you're doing and the fact you now feel like you have the knowledge, skills and the right to really talk about these things. You no longer feel the need to justify every action, explain every move, decision or comment you make, which you did constantly at that point 6 years ago, in your journey and trust yourself to be saying the right thing. Your knowledge of what to show and what to skim past has improved immeasurably, along with how best to show it, explain it and entertain whilst "teaching" showing how to do something. What works, what doesn't and explaining why it either worked or didn't. Never mind your sense of style, how you present yourself and the videos which has also changed drastically. Mostly because it seems you no longer care what others think or expect and now just do you, having learnt that no matter what you do or don't do there will always be someone who says you're doing it wrong or telling you how it should be done, etc, etc so it's really not worth bothering about as long as most of the people watching are enjoying it and getting something out of it, then you're winning anyway, especially if you're truly enjoying what you're doing. Anyway basically what I trying to say was extremely, extremely, well done and if you keep improving, keep working as hard, keep being as enthusiastic, proud of and truly enjoying what you do and create at the same rate then 6 years from now you can expect many more subscribers and to be hosting, running and being the owner, creator of own one of the top channels in this sector in the RU-vid world of channels. Perhaps you'll even get someone to put your ideas and designs down in CAD or do it yourself and then actually building the exact same thing in the designs and as you thought you were going to be building in the first place and ending up with the actual thing you wanted to create at the start. OK yhea, I know that's possibly pushing the realms of reality a bit too much, despite how much you've already pushed them with how much your channel, your videos and especially you have changed for the absolute better already, here's to another 6 and more years of this channel and you growing. Thanks for the entertainment and knowledge. 😊😅😂👍😎👀 🏍️ 💨💨💨🚲💨💨💨💨🏎️💨💨💨💨💨 ⛓️⚙️🔩👨🏼‍🔧🦡⌛🛣️⚖️🧲🛠️🔧🧰🗜️⚒️🔨 📈🎥☣️🚳⚠️↗️↗️↗️🏆 🚀👀🦾🤘 👀 👀 🛵💨💨💨💨💨💨💨 👀 👀👨🏼‍🔧

However, please, please consider doing a decent to large sized Quad Bike, all terrain, high powered, ride anywhere, anything but really really smart, stylish design. It's an area you don't explore enough considering the size of the builds, the freedom it could give you, whilst not taking months and getting out of hand. 10.91 Gallons more you should see about extending the tank outside of the frame on all 3 sides to get a larger capacity then build a cage around the other parts of the tank to protect it! Or at least build a larger secondary tank and let it grav be able to gravitate feed into the trophy trucks tank from off the trailer! That seems like a much better solution for your off road vehicles with smaller tanks. Or you could get a plastic 35 gallon capacity fuel tank for like a 1992 Chevy truck and mount it to the trailer and you don't have to worry about venting or anything like that because they already are on the tank or on its matching fuel pump!
