Building a Gas Tank out of a Street Sign! 4X4 750cc Power Wheels Build!

The overland Dream Camper build needs a big gas tank to take on the trails so we fabricated one out of a street sign. This gas tank is light weight and cost almost nothing to make! In the next video we will fix the 4WD and finish the fuel system!

Aluminum isn't magnetic but with a couple extra neodyniums you can still use them, you just need a magnet on both sides of the aluminum.

When working with aluminum you can soften the areas where you want to work or bend through a process called Annealing. I'm sure there are lots of You Tube videos on this. Or just warm the area to around 300 degrees and it will move much easier. Above 300 it starts changing the properties of the aluminum. Always enjoy the videos. Thanks,

24:07 I found a trick that works great for me. Drill the 1/4" hole. Replace 1/4" drill bit in hole saw with a 1/4" rod. No more side cutting.

Turned out really cool. You'll probably end up with hot fuel but i don't think it will be enough to matter. You could always stick some insulation on the side near the radiator if necessary. I would definitely keep a fire extinguisher accessible to the driver in the off chance the fuel tank ruptures or leaks onto the engine. It's probably a long shot but if it happened it would be real uncomfortable real fast.

Yeah, might wrap the tank in reflective heat tape, and will definitely have a fire extinguisher on board, since you can’t just jump out of this one…

Wouldn't worry with enough flow or pressure e.g.1.1 to1.2 1.3 bar etc helps using math you can increase flow and or pressure by 10 to 30% with just off the shelf upgrades majority of systems can take increases just have to double check but its always viable option cheap temp sensor will tell you if at max load from donuts burnouts etc if needs upgrading but doubt it unless you hide a radiator sideways with no air flow re direction etc its a concern really most vehicles have far more real estate than static machinery and we wedge ours in with minimal clearances ✌️ lots of love from mech engineer in heavy duty recycling sector 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

You can ease the tool pressure when cutting threads by moving the tool using the compound. Make sure your compound is lined up parallel to the work surface and when you start to have trouble with the tool pressure just dial the compound over a few thousands so the threading tool only cuts on one side rather than both sides. And in your case this will also help with dealing with the different thread pitch going from SAE to Metric. This obviously will take a little more time but it's not like you're doing a production run.

To bend 6061 at 90 degrees aluminum you need anneal it and make sure you bend against the grain! Love the vids keep it up

I replaced the pulse pump on my 650 Brute Force. It was always a real pain to start cold, an electric pump completely solved that problem

If you heat up aluminum, it bends further without cracking. But, being a natural heat sink.... you would likely need to remove all of the weather proof reflective god knows what they use to make those signs. Making the extra cuts may be worth it in your situation. Love these creative build techniques you have been using since day one. This is definitely another banger of a project.

If you anneal the aluminum it will bend just fine. Put carbon from a pure acetylene flame on one side and heat the other side until the carbon burns off, let it cool, and bend away!

If you can heat the aluminum with a torch to take the temper out of it you will be able to bend it . street signs go thru a tempering process to make them ridged to withstand wind and the beating from weather that's why after 20 or more years there still the same shape and not bent all to hell .

Aluminium IS magnetic. You just need to use the correct magnet. My preferred magnet is hot glue.

Aneal the aluminum to bend it. Put a sharpie mark on one side and heat the other side till the sharpie mark fades away and it will bend easily.

If you use a sheet metal bending die where the radius of the bend is 3 times the width of the material you can bend 6061. We frequently do at our machine shop because 6061 is the most used material so rather than checking out soft aluminum we just do it that way.

An easier Solution for the Gascap, cut a 2-3 Inch Piece of the old Filler and turn the Aluminium Innerdiameter down to the Outerdiameter of the Plasticfiller and glue it in

@@GrindHardPlumbingCo My thought was more so about weight transfer when it's close to full, since it could be a couple of gallons sloshing to the outside a in a sharp turn pretty high up. But I do dig the salvage material use and design, you guys always do top notch work, and I would still like to see you make your own Powder Coater with a couple electric ovens, your projects deserve it
