Finally making some headway on my 1/4 mile long driveway on my Homestead project. In a few days I hauled more than 220 tons with my little truck which caught the rock up to the cleared area.
Follow me on Instagram & Facebook @dieselcreek to see some of what I'm up to before it hits RU-vid! #DieselCreek

That geo-tex fabric is definitely great for building roads and other structures in soggy areas. On another note, when it's a personal project, it's never a road to nowhere. It's a road to where you want to be.

As entertaining as your videos are, never sell short the knowledge that you’re imparting on people from these videos, especially the earlier ones. Been watching you for a few years now. I trade iron as a day job (RB videos really speak to me lol) but have been accumulating some machines over the past year or two for property improvements on a chunk of land we bought, and now have people calling me for side work, which really helps justify to the wife why I need to own all this stuff. Came back to this video since I stepped up yesterday from a 1-ton dump truck to a ‘99 International 4900 with a 466/Allison and was looking for inspiration. Just wanted to say thanks for teaching the people that didn’t grow up doing this kind of stuff or ever had a job doing road work, etc how to do it!

Dad bought a very tired White cabover and tilt-bed back in the early 80's. Truck had the Road Ranger 10-speed in it. I could drive the shit out of it, but it frustrated Dad to no end that he couldn't really get the hang of no-clutch shifting. Made a smart-ass early 20-something laugh his ass off when his dad ground the gears. 😁

Worth pulling the shift tower off, look below on the trans case where it meets the shift tower and check and make sure all the detent balls and springs for the shift rail are in place. Should be three of them. Be careful pulling it apart sometimes the springs will stick to the shift tower and you don't want to drop one down in the case. The slave valve can also cause it to be hard to get into/keep in gear especially if someone crammed the shift tower down on top of the rod without pressing it in to the valve first, lol. Lastly you can pull the rail and fork section off the top of the case and make sure a fork isn't damaged or bent and also inspect the sliding clutch and corresponding gear for 4th/9th. Chances are the sliding clutch and/or gear are chipped up, wore out, etc., from abuse and will need to be replaced. Rebuilt an 8LL last year with the same issue in 4th/8th and the sliding clutch gear and drive gear were all chewed up.

Getting that roadbed solid is well worth the effort for sure. Fighting a wet hole in the road wears on you over time and it just gets bigger as you edge over for some solid ground. Growing up a poor farm kid I know that well. Having a dump truck and a machine sure takes a lot of back breaking labor away.

About stone aggregate: I have seen large 11/2" stone put down first, then 1/ 2" bluestone (drive way type) , next, then gone over with vibratory roller. Next, crushed bluestone dust, then vibratory roller again. Then wet down really well, then more dust, then wet, and rolled again....soynds like a lit if work, but that roadway was as if made of concrete, and I mean SMOOTH. I saw the roadway 2 years later, and it was still as good as when first done. The stone dust "locked " everything together I couldn't believe how well it worked....!!!!!

From what I've read in recent years since I left PA for the West, you do a heck of a lot better job at building a road than PENNDOT...😉👍 And I wondered why you didn't roll-and-spread your rock sooner, obviously saves you a lot of back-and-forth time. You're getting the hang of it, keep on rollin'. Beautiful scenery on the country roads. As I've mentioned before I miss the greenery of my native PA. 😊👍👍
