Time to expand our rat breeding capability. We needed a maternity rack. Tubs are dish basins that were bought at The Dollar Tree. They're a bit flimsy so we might end up reinforcing the sides. Visit our website at www.redemptionr...
I just wanted to let you know this is *the Best* video I have seen on building a rat or mouse rack. I have watched dozens of videos on building these to try and come up with the perfect rack for our needs. Though your rack is not perfect for what we need your video was.
Hey thanks for such a detailed design! I used your design to build mine! I did 5 levels with 2 large tubs per level. I didn't need as many tubs as you did. Thanks Again!
one think i would recommend is that you stick blocks in between each level in the middle (front and back side). I've done the same thing with making these long. They will start to sag . If you go and make another one. when you build it, design it so you have a 2x3 or 2x4 built right on the the front and back. And to get straight 2x2s get a 2x4 and rip it in half. I'll be talking to you , i can give you some tips. Everyone i build is modified if some way. haha.
I got those bins from Dollar Tree. I had to modify them slightly to make them usable. They are a little flimsy, but for $1/each it was the best way to go.
Already done! I think I mentioned in the video that I had planned to do that. There was no way we were going to mess with 35 water bottles... Thanks for the comment!
I got the tubs from the dollar store. They had to be modified to fit in the rack because they had a raised part on top that would have kept them from sitting flush against the mesh. I had to cut that part off. The rack is 5' tall, and 7' 1 3/8" long. that allowed me to space the runners exactly 12" apart. I hope that answers your question. Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.
You have the same set up as I do. I have the same white tubes and did the same thing with sanding down the handles. But I use them for the mice. I found rats with chew through thin plastic like this so i was kinda iffy if you wanted to do this or not. You dont have an issue with chew throughs? I need to make a couple more mother racks, but I been using the expensive steralite tubs from walmart. They are $5 vs $1. I cant afford 5x80. Well i can, but i rather not if i dont have to.
Hello I just seen your video, Do they make holes in tubs I read thought your commets blow I seen where you got them just wonted to ask because im thinking of make an Rack for my rats ....... And I like the way yours was done up
In the video I used 1x2's. They ended up being too narrow, and the tubs were falling down. So I had to take them off, and use 1x3's. For spacers I used 1x2's cut down to the exact height of the rim of the tub. Hope that helps.
