First, I want to apologize for the shaky parts of the video! LOL
This is a very easy build and hopefully helpful to anyone interested in doing it yourself. Just comment if you have any questions at all.
Tubs are 21 gallon, 23.75" x 36" and purchased from Home Depot.
Cut list is on my website.
Thanks for watching!!
~Jeff

Thanks for posting this. I want to build a rack for the larger tubs as well and thought it would be beneficial to create a bottom shelf or some bottom runners for support, so this video was very informative, helpful, and inspiring. I, like you, am very detailed oriented and like to make things look great and last long, which a lot of people will think is over kill but who cares? It is awesome and honestly the higher quality of the end product with all the nice details is something to be proud of. Thanks again.

Your welcome. Honestly videos like this help the hobby evolve cause experimentation, breaking from the norm, trying to solve for small problems pushes innovation. Everyone builds the same rack with minor variation. Builds like this give people options and give everyone confidence to try new things

woodnjava thanks what size rub would you say would house a adult corn snake as that is what I plan to keep in my racks
@woodnjava_patuxentpythons
@woodnjava_patuxentpythons 6 лет назад
I'm no expert on corns, I have 1 adult that I keep in a large terrarium because they are active and love to climb. I would only keep them in tubs for breeding. That said, I suppose the appropriate size for an adult corn would be about 28 quarts (26 liters) minimum. 35-40 quarts is probably better though.
@alexmillership7717

woodnjava would a 32inchx24inchx7inch tub at 70 litres be big enough

Whats the point of having the T on top of the wire?

One side is for food and the other side for water bottle. I dont use water lines.

Do you use this size for breeding or grow out? If breeding, how many rats?
@woodnjava_patuxentpythons
@woodnjava_patuxentpythons 4 года назад
I use for breeding. Typically 1:3 ratio but sometimes there will be an additional female that is allowed to grow out making a 1:4. Still plenty of room in these large tubs. The real positive with these tubs is the taller headroom. It allows the rats to stand and stretch out. The smaller black tubs keep them on all fours. ~Jeff www.PatuxentPythons.com
@JLGReptiles
@JLGReptiles 5 лет назад
Hey man awesome design. I'm about to build my own. Just a quick question. With the plywood shelves holding the bottom of the tub are the runners even needed or could I just put the screen top on and have the tub between the wire top and plywood shelf?
@woodnjava_patuxentpythons
@woodnjava_patuxentpythons 5 лет назад
The runners do actually help with guiding the tub back in. If not there, the tub may not go back in straight and bang into the vertical supports. You could certainly give it a try and add runners later if needed. Another benefit is that the tubs are tapered in the front and back. The shelves may need to extend further out front to support the tub when pulled out. Thanks for the input! ~Jeff www.PatuxentPythons.com
@JLGReptiles
@JLGReptiles 5 лет назад
@@woodnjava_patuxentpythons I didn't really think about the support when the tub is pulled out. Probably need to go ahead and add them in

Do you have videos on the final product with the rats and water system all set up? Also is there any real way to rat proof the walls haha. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
@woodnjava_patuxentpythons
@woodnjava_patuxentpythons 6 лет назад
I have an earlier video showing these racks in use. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dizAVXrYQqw.html I only use water bottles, not a system. As far as proofing the walls, the rats cant get a bite on the sides when it is built this way. I have never had any rats chew though the walls. I did find that some of the smaller 9 gallon tubs had a couple small bumps in the bottom from the molding process and the rats did chew through those. If you're going to build a rack, look for tubs with smooth bottoms. Thanks for watching and commenting! ~Jeff www.PatuxentPythons.com

If you don’t mind me asking about how much did it cost to build this rack
@woodnjava_patuxentpythons
@woodnjava_patuxentpythons 6 лет назад
I dont mind at all Justin. $115 for the basic rack: About $40 for about 13 studs, $25 for wire mesh, $50 for 4 large tubs. If you choose to add the plywood shelves and casters, that would be an extra cost. The cut list can be found on my website. Let me know if I can answer any more questions for you. ~Jeff www.PatuxentPythons.com

Way too much work! I have 18 rat racks, 16 breeders and 2 large tub growouts. Very similar but way cheaper, less time consuming, and just as much stability.

Thanks. I guess as a professional cabinetmaker, I do tend to over build things. If I'm going to put effort into something, I want it to work well and last. I try to show the basic idea of construction and hopefully give people the confidence that they can do it themselves. Also, by showing that there are options, for instance no shelves or no dados, it gives people the choice to build it the way they want to, and within their budget and time frame. I just try to provide direction, general guidelines, and belief in themselves that they can do it. Thank you for watching and commenting. I do appreciate it. ~Jeff patuxentpythons.com
